  1. After reading up on it, I found that you only need the light piston if you want to run 7/8ths or 1oz loads. I've always shot and buy 1 1/8th, so it should be fine. I bought the gun today and ran almost a box of ammo through it... worked like a champ! the silly mag plug was in it so couldn't run it at full tilt, but the thing cycles crazy fast and the turkey choke that's in there now make nice patterns. Might have to run thing thing soon!
  2. holy sh*t i'm on the internetz! you see that fat kid slaying steels with the pistol? That would be me... Didn't we win this stage in our division, too?
  3. wow that looks like a bad idea... can't wait to try it!
  4. It was my understanding that you can't get a new piston for the SX2 turkey gun? Is that not true? Because there is one ANIB with fiber optics here locally for $600
  5. So Pro2inPA and I set up this press the other week so I could get situated and start loading. I've watched a ton of videos, and read all sorts of manuals. So we set up the press to get a basic load dialed in, and it seems to be working well. there is some trouble with the primers, and it seems the powder dump is making little depressions on the case, which in turn is making the bullets not seat and load correctly. i think i figured out why the press is being weird and mashing cases. it's not making that final like 1/8th in click at the top of the stroke, so it's not lining everything up right. I think this may also happen on the down stroke, too. So my question is, how do I fix it? I'm hesitant to mess with the timing of everything, but it seems that if I nudge the shell plate that extra little bit at the top, everything lines up and works well. Btw, the first 100 or so rounds of different loads seemed to work with only 2 problems that we diagnosed, so i'm headed in the right direction and don't want to give up yet! Please help!!!! Steve
  6. I have a similar question... Looking at possibly picking up the SX2, but it's in turkey gun format. Meaning it takes 3.5" shells. would I be able to run cheap stuff through it at matches without too much problem?
  7. watching me at a match pretty much is full on shits and giggles I already have a decent AR with scope and goodies, which seems to be enough for the events around here. I was thinking a "fun gun" for 3 gun would be the best. I already play seriously with USPSA SS/L10 and steel challenge, so messing around with 3 gun is enough for me! I just want to make noise and still make hits.
  8. Hey all, so the 3 guns over here are mostly for fun, and no targets out past 200 yards. I'm getting an SBR lower, and I want a good, accurate upper for it that will still hit 6" steel at 200. that's it. Nothing too crazy. I know it's going to be loud and less easy to shoot than a competition rifle, but the giggle factor is pretty high. what do you suggest for a decent quality upper that won't break the bank (under lets say $1300). I'm thinking 10.5 inches, but would totally rock a 7" if that wouldn't loose too much accuracy. I would love if i could also shoot 22lr out of it with a can (have one of those on the way, too!) with a spikes conversion kit. let me know! pics help, too.
  9. guys don't bother.... Jay, Jeremy and I have the bottom 3 slots on Lock! Just a matter of who gets which at this point
  10. Pro-Pain, I would say you should do one in 22 first, see if you like it. It's stupid cheap, and really fun. I have a wilson combat 1911 upper on a build frame, with a nice red dot sitting on top. When it was running, it was the most fun thing I've shot. However, I'm having ejection issues so it's back at the shop. I'd say shoot something fun in 22 (buckmark, ruger, etc) and see how you like it, and you can build an open gun based on how you enjoy it. I was actually going to scope a 1911 for PSA, but decided irons would be better practice
  11. Dave I'm having Hannah build me a cart/wagon... should be awesome, and carry all our gear and more without issues. Stroller options seems pretty weird but effective to.
  12. Howard et. al., Thanks for putting on such an awesome match! everything was great, and I really liked everyone shooting at the same time. That Hugs explosion stage was both awesome and challenging! Thanks for putting it on, and see you at the next one! (maybe even before then, too)
  13. Hey all, I'm getting started into loading, and I'm overwhelmed by choices. I heard you could save money per round loading, but some of the FMJ and stuff I see is like 20c/round, which after primer/brass/poweder puts me right up to almost factory prices. The only real cheap stuff I see is lead, but I hear they are harder to load, foul the barrel, and you have to keep them slow. I'm wondering if there's any reason to not shoot lead SWC out of a 5" 1911 in minor loads for steel shoots and practice. I would do major stuff with FMJ or swagged (is that right) since it will be going faster. thanks for the noob help!
  14. I love my Baer! Picked it up used for a steal (under $900!) and it locks up like a champ. I have never felt a smoother pistol, even if she does show some scuffs and wear. My plan is to learn to load to feed her, then shoot SS, L10, steel challenge, and IDPA with this one gun. Just different mags and springs maybe for the different PFs.
  15. isn't more chrome always a good thing?
  16. For me, I have a couple.... Learn to load (to feed the addiction) Stop spending money on guns and more on practice Overall local winner L10 or SS Overall winner steel challenge (iron sights) Get my GF to enjoy the sport Shoot as much as I can Enjoy it and not worry about how I actually do
  17. at least you got it out of the way? seriously though, it's important to follow all the rules, no matter how silly they may seem. I always wait for the RO to give me permission to load and make ready or likewise. Since you're new, don't be embarrassed to ask if you're confused. Better to get cleared up then a DQ...
  18. Damn, just put in a midway order and forgot the primer flip tray and the lighter recoil springs... Oh well. So I did order the LnL used from the forum, and it's coming with dies, bushing wheel, and a CASE FEEDER! hahah, time to get the goodies to feed the red monster
  19. JMIS, check out my AR trigger. I did the soft stoning work and put in a JP trigger spring set. Total cost was about $15. While I'm no expert, this breaks clean and it's super smooth. Jay and Big Dan have played with it. It's not bad at all for the cost... If you'd like, I'll teach you how to do it. I build full ARs from time to time, and can hook you up if you'd like. Let me know
  20. I just took the time to get my GF into shooting... Now whenever I ramble on about gear, it's always for "us"... Like how my SBR with supressor will be perfect for her to shoot in 22 at Steel Challenge... Or about how I "need" a 2011 so I can keep up with her and her soon-to-be-lime-green beretta neos
  21. Great list! I was reading that one while researching... I already have the room and 5 jobs (seriously) so I think I have 19-20 covered... Working on the press and whatnot. Where do I get the primer flippers?
  22. bone conduction will cause the sound to be heard, but it's the damage done to the ear drum itself that often causes hearing problems.
