Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've had a S&W Gunsite. It's a nice firearm & you should be able to get one used in your price range. They also make other commander sized models which may be priced lower. Recently bought an E-series after waiting to see one in the used market. Shoots well & looks to be even better for carry given it's bobtail. New that's outside your specified range though...
  2. I'm in the same boat, just doing IDPA instead. I was told that the Enos book is great for shooters to take the next step but not for the initial steps. I just read Andy Stanford's surgical sharp shooting book & ordered a copy of Jim Crews book. Dry firing as much as I can now. My first goal is to get all shots within a 3in radius of the center on a standard sized paper at 7 yards. Then increase pace & distance...
  3. More than polymer or metal, cold affects your finger tips. That makes it harder to do precision things and pressing that mag release does require fine motor skills. Just MHO... Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  4. I'm shooting a Kimber Ultra Aegis II. Gave up on the Hi Point. Ended up buying a M&P9. Having a trigger job done and mulling over TruGlo TFO. I'm on NES (piman) and love it! That's how I got hooked on to MWT and their practice & matches. PM inbound. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  5. I'm actually in the Northeast. Didn't know there was a town by my name I go to Harvard Sportsmens Club for practice & matches. Great place... Will try out S&W though it's a bit of a hike. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  6. Sage advice that I'll be sure to follow. Looking forward to my next match! Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
  7. Ok, so after a couple of IDPA practice sessions, I decided to enter a match last Sat. It was biting cold and ground was slushy but I was super excited. First stage - wanted to make sure every one knew I was on top of my game. So I asked if this was Limited Vickers. SO said no so the genius assumed there was no timing . Spent about 65s and still had 5 points down on 8 targets. No big deal moved on second stage. At stage 2 I did below 50s but had 30 points down on 8 targets. Here I failed to seat the magazine (shooting a Kimber Ultra) so on a turning target I was shooting air. Cleared the malfunction and so on, so did a good job overall. At this time the friendly assistant SO said before my turn to shoot I should focus on the stage and not bother cleaning up. So I go over to stage 3. Stage 3 starts from a seated position and the SO mentions concealment is not required. Every one is chatting so when my turn comes I decide to take the jackets off (did I mention it was very cold??) and lay out the magazines and the gun on the table. I see the SO asking me to take a walk with him and immediately realize I had handled the gun before I was told to begin. Day over ! Bummed to have left the 6 stage match after 2, but hey I will never do that mistake again!! On the bright side, SO pointed me to this site to learn more and I am really thankful for that.
  8. Hi guys I am Prakash from MA. Relatively new to guns (about a year) and very new to competing (IDPA). I view IDPA as a place to get better under stress as opposed to a competition (at least that's my line until I get better ). Went for my first match last weekend & got DQ'ed at the third stage - honest mistake but I look at it as a learning experience. Trying to get better at working with practice squads locally. Fascination for Officers/sub-compact 1911 but eying a Browing Hi-Power longingly! Looking forward to this forum - my SO (who DQ'ed me) pointed me here as a consolation that many folks get DQ'ed! Loved what I was reading. -Prakash
