  1. Kurtm, I didn't intend to imply that I used 50 gr. bullets for steel, just an option for close paper out to 100 yd. I like my 77's for anything past 100 simply because I know where they hit. I don't reload for hoser targets just use a reliable and inexpensive 55 gr. round, currently using some found at a gun show for $120/K.
  2. Try the 50 gr. V-Max over 26 to 27 grs. of Varget. Out of my 1 in 7 twist they go into 1/2" @ 100 and get there fast. This bullet seems to shoot well in anything from 1 in 12 to 1 in 7. LOL Keith
  3. If your shooting 8 to 10 in. plates at 300 yds. you would be below the dot into the grid the real problem is in the 150 to 250 yd. area on 6 in. plates. It can be done with a little practice but would be simple with a 2 min. dot. On close stuff it rocks. I've shot out to 700 yds. on IPSC sized targets with great results. I have also contacted Horus Vision with the suggestion of a smaller center dot. We'll see if they are interested in shooter input.
  4. I haven't had the same experience with GAP that has been mentioned here and when I asked for consideration in the matter was told I'd be charged again to fix the problem. Just my case yours may be better, but they will never do work for me again!
  5. Trapr, My local gun shop is a stocking Benelli dealer and seems to be able to get them whenever he needs one. He had one last Wed. but sold it, I'll ask him next week when and if. Keith
  6. I've got three 1 in 7 twist barrels 1 Colt, 1 Bushmaster, and an FN. All shoot less than 1 moa and my varmint rig with the FN shoots 50 gr. V max into dime size groups @ 100 yds.. The colt has more than 7 K on it. Needless to say I like these barrels and have 2 new ones in reserve.
  7. Can carry 25 on or in the gun. If it takes more than that I go with Cal. comp works carriers.
  8. Zero is 50 yds. most fall between 20 to 80 yds. once in awhile you'll see a 100 yd. Keith
  9. Put some rounds down range yesterday, with the Talon. I'm not happy with the mount setup as is, not enough eye relief and will change it ASAP. After zeroing shot 100 to 600 yds with 1st. shot hits common. As suspected the center dot needs to be smaller IMHO. Shot half IPSC targets ( upper half ) out to 325 with little effort. Ballistic program supplied with the scope seems to be right on. With closer targets its point and shoot on low power with a clear sight picture even at contact distance. You can read a newspaper through the scope with the barrel of gun pressed against the paper at 1 power. Hardest targets are in the 175 to 250 range because of the center dot. With a little practice I expect my comfort level to increase at these mid ranges. Its not perfect but what is in this game. I think I'll run it this year and see what happens. Its a lot faster on the close stuff than my ACOG and with practice will be as fast on the longer shots. As always this is one persons opinion and should be researched further. LOL Keith
  10. Rhino, you rarely get the money out of a custom gun that it is worth much less what you have in it. A rebarrel would make it into something useful, but would suggest going with a 1 in 7 so you could shoot 80gr. bullets. Better than that have it made into an Ackly improved .223. As far as the .308 go for it, the MOR matches are a blast. Choose wisely and your in the game for under $1500 with a very competitive setup. LOL Keith
  11. I use UC for all my pistol ( 9mm, 38 super, 40 S&W, 10mm, 45acp, 44mag. ) and some shotgun loads. Have went through at least 25lbs. and still love the stuff. My 40 load is 5.2 gr. with 180gr. West coast at 1.195 oal. Spread is around 25 to 30 fps. 38 Super loads are not major but don't need to be for my use. LOL Keith
  12. Larry, scope weight is just under a pound ( 452.5 grams ). Lawman, short answer is no not bright enough for daylight use. Kellyn, its not busy on low power and on high power it doesn't seem to be distracting but again I haven't shot it yet just looked at targets at different ranges. The software that came with it is kinda trick have played with it some. Keith
  13. Horus Vision Talon arrived today (Mon.). Compact only 9 1/2 inches long but 30 mm dia. tube so will have to wait for new rings to mount it up. Looks to be a "true" 1 to 4 power very easy to keep both eyes open on low power. Eye relief is great at 3 to 3 1/2 inches. There is a center dot that is close to 4 min. and then a large "ghost ring" that is 26 mils. across. The retical is in the first plane so as you increase power the retical gets bigger. The grid isn't really visable until 2 power and better at 3 power very good at 4 power. It is illuminated with a 12 position switch on the left side. The cross hairs from top to bottom and side to side also the ghost ring and center dot are illuminated. On the highest setting they are very bright, but its not a dot sight. At first blush I'd like to see the center dot smaller maybe 2 min. but it may not be a problem. Looks to be very fast on close stuff. Rings should be here in a couple of days, more later. Keith
  14. Ordered one Thursday should be here middle of next week. I'll mount it up and give a report after shooting some drills. Looks like a viable scope for 3 gun.
  15. What do you expect the weather conditions to be in January? How much warning is there for a canceled match? Its about 7 1/2 hrs., so would like to know we are shooting for sure. Think I have a couple of friends that might make the trip also, if not in Jan. then one of the other matches. Thanks for any info. Keith
  16. Either the CZ or the Tikka will work well. The Tikka tactical prints 1/2 moa out to 600 yrds. and I made a brake for it so recoil is like a 22-250. Shot it at the RM3G for my first MOR match and had a respectable finish. The mags work very well and its reasonable in price.
  17. Mk 1 for what you describe as intended use. I've used one for 3 yrs. and it just keeps running. The ghost ring is a little faster for slugs but gets in the way for flying tagets. Took both too the sporting clays range and the rifle sights ( folded down ) had about 20% more hits. If you buy new there is a break in period of around 250 rounds and frequent cleanings are a must early in its life. LOL Keith
  18. I've used Miltec for 3 yrs. now and have never seen the gum refered to. It has proven to me that it holds up under adverse conditions and attracts less dirt. I use it on all my guns and they run when others don't. There are plenty of fine products out there, none of them will take the place of good maintenance.
  19. The CZ would be a fine choice but in the .308, most MOR matches have a caliber floor of .243. You might look at a Tikka most of their hunting calibers have a detachable mag. and they gurrantee a 1" group. LOL Keth
  20. The Leupold Mark 4 PR mentioned is a very good scope for the money ( less than $500 ) if you look real hard. Also look at the IOR 2.5 X 10 ill. retical and 10 mils. by 1/2 mil. below the center dot. Worked for me at the RM3G MOR. LOL Keith
  21. I'd have to agree, it was a fine 2 gun match held at a great venue with a crappy road made worse by the weather. It was good to see our southern shooting friends and enjoy the hospitality of the Old Fort Gun Club. The usual suspects shot well and it was fun to watch how its supposed to be done. I learn something at every match. Hopalong, don't know what to say, sometimes things just fall the right way and the underdog gets the bone. I'm sure you'll get your revenge. Keith
  22. Benny, have Ty and Traprs gotten a sex change or have you picked up more personal.
  23. Muscleman 2004 is in the history book, but what a match. Army wants to bring 3 teams next year. To correct a couple of things in Kurts post. 1st. Pat Kelley, Kurt Miller 2nd. Keith Tolles, Jason Cummings 3rd. ARMY AKA Joe Harles, Greg Wilson, I think 4th. Super troopers AKA Shay Wright, Carlos 5th. Kuhn and Vandever Results will be posted on web site after we ride Joel's butt for a while. Wind was an issue this year only 2 teams shot under calm conditions. The targets worked as hoped and there was only a few names taken in vain ( mine ) as a result we hope to challenge everyone again next year. Thanks to all who helped and all who shot. Keith
  24. The comp-tac locking paddle is my holster of choice for limited and 3 gun. Very secure fit to both you and your gun. Gregg is great to deal with and service is quick. I have three of these locking paddle holsters ( Glock 35, single stack 1911 and an STI ). His mag holders are nice also, and both can be put on with out removing your belt. LOL Keith
  25. Kurt, when you get yours running 100% I'll give you mine to tinker with and then we can have a good comparison of at least two models. Keith
