  1. this thread is facinating. i know i still haven't found what i like. given there are alot of rifle shots so close in (IMHO that's dumb), it's a tough choice. when i first started 3 gun, i had a huge leupold (3.5x10x50) on top of my flatop. was great for far out stuff but sucked for the close stuff and was overkill on the objective. mounted an optima on top of the tube for close stuff, but parallax made that good only for 25 yds or so. then i dumped that setup and went to an acog TA01. found the fixed magnification was no good for the close stuff, but didn't want a 2nd optic to deal with. even then, the reticle on it was too messy to deal with when reaching out. i dumped that and tried a TA21. really liked the fact i could do close range stuff just fine and had enuf power to see the long stuff. didn't take long to figure out the hassle associated with holdover and the inconsistent group shooting as a result of the reticle. so now, i'm thinking about either a TA11 or the JP TA01. in either case, i'm gonna have to go back to a 2nd optic for the close stuff, which i hate. just wish the guys at trijicon would develop a variable version of the TA11...that would be my pick.
  2. yep, sure can-as a matter of fact, you could use more than one bipod, of different sizes, throughout a match-seen it done.
  3. that's ok, at the 3gun nats, they defined kneeling as rifle unsupported (by a bipod)...also not in the book.
  4. so kathy-you didn't like my reference, eh? bea arthur? wait till you get back to the sacramento area...
  5. hahaha...experienced the opposite-i thought the right side port made it more difficult to see those flashers when down low. go figure...
  6. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2...1658.shtml?et=y check the "adds" displayed on the left side of the web page...happened to see someone pointing a gun.
  7. ong45 works in the post office-i bet he's forwarded mine to barstow...
  8. i know, not pretty, but i know where everything is...
  9. on my way to work this morning-driving along and some bimbo Bea Arthur cuts in front of me to get into a turning lane...yep, she's on her cell. she's talking away as we sit at the light, hands flying and everything. the light turns green (did i mention it wasn't the turning lane light), and as the lane next to me takes off, she guns her new lexus and plows right into the back of a new CLK. as i'm wiping the tears from my eyes from so much laughter, the lady she hit gets out of her CLK, and you guessed it, she's on a cell as well! as i drive around them i had to roll the window down and yell "you need a cell phone to call AAA"?
  10. rear leg of my ejector on an old 1911 frame sheared off. it's stuck in the hole big time. is there some way to free it up? i went through brownells looking for a special bit to remove it, but failed to find anything.
  11. +1 i run 4.3 gr of vvn320 in my steel gun and it goes a whopping 960fps-fast burning stuff...wouldn't think about stuffing it into a major load.
  12. paule-thanx fer the tip. dunno what ammo yer throwing downrange, but the trajectory tables with my ammo zeroed at 300 puts it low by about 10" at 400. still, it's mo betta than holding over the top of the flasher!
  13. where's sherwood? planning on retiring up there in 4 years. i'll be at the A1 fer sure...
  14. norcal-i'll see mine after the orange bowl.
  15. didn't forget-but that's was one year-given their budget, my fellow dagos will ensure the new ride is ready early-to prance once more. ah-the old "ring"-the nordschleife...scary place given the speeds. you can drive it if you ever get over there. http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/
  16. the only way they are gonna promote passing is to give every team but ferrari a 10 lap head start. seriously, i could care less about passing in F1-i watch it to see technology and the few remaining classic tracks set in the countryside. i abhor the new sterile tracks and head to the range on those sundays. gimme the old hockenheim, spa, monza and imola. otoh, i think the split wing looks kinda cool-the wind tunnel graphic proves the effect, but i suspect a lack of downforce will only last till the engineers play with it.
  17. here's the deal-i luv my accupoint, unless i have to holdover on a longer target-it's tricky, slow and a pain to do right. so i'm curious what options i have when presented with a stage that has long distance targets (i.e. 300-400 yds). obviously i could just dial in a scope adjustment for that stage, which i really do NOT want to do. the other obvious thing is change the zero for my setup. i've always zeroed my AR at 200 yds, which is great until i'm dealing with a bullet drop of 12+ inches. having to holdover on a 10" plate with those damn black posts under the triangle sux. so i'm considering zero at 250+ if i know there is a stage in the match that is 350-400. oh yea, the other option is a TA-11, but i really like the 1.25 end on the accupoint. any thoughts?
  18. other than making yer bore look like someone puked in it, they are ok. IMHO, go with the AA's...much cleaner.
  19. oh heck-i've been running castrol syntec 20/50...guess i better change...
  20. saw a scary DQ at the 3G nats on saturday...shooter had just reloaded his shotgun with slugs via tech loader, and while turning the gun back over, touched the trigger and burried a slug into the ground not too far in front of him. pucker began almost immediately, i'm sure. it's called unsafe gun handling, period...game, set & match.
  21. since this post is under "3 gun", and we all have carts, better include a patch kit for the tires! i'd hate to try to hump all that stuff if i got a flat. come to our range and you will get one.
  22. have to admit, this year's match was better than last year's-certainly not as physically gruelling. every one of our stages was right on time, great RO's and weather was perfect. very few traps at all and the stages were balanced well. as was the case last year, the pistol side of things was not very demanding. if anything, it was weighted towards shotgun. our squad had it's share of troubles. felt sorry for TMC to watch him shoot stage 10 with a manual rifle-he had a great match going. also hated to see Chris's shotgun break after the 1st shot of the match-he shot a borrowed 1100 but that brings with it lot's of mental uncertanties. also, one of our squad members unfortunately DQ'd on stage 9 (my best stage). my interceptor latch got bent early in the match and my SG puked at every stage. RO's had to break out a sundial to time me on stage 10-found out last night one of my rings had loosened from the base-will buy 2 gallons of locktite on the way home. but, it's vegas baby! loved the bass pro shop in my hotel-stayed outta the casinos and spent $$$ there. got buffeted out and had a great steak somewhere-don't remember exactly where, but that's another story, but i did find the place with the 48 ounce beer...
  23. Of course we trust you Cullen, but when was the last time you were in Vegas? This place is being built-up so fast its changing daily! Latest weather is 85 and isolated thunder storms on saturday and 76 and showers on Sunday. Bring your rain gear I guess?!?!? Shades on 2002 but it was much colder then <{POST_SNAPBACK}> todd-according to accuweather, sunday has a slight chance of a thundershower...but yer right-drag the rain gear and covers for yer cart. i ain't planning on bringin' anything but shorts anyway.
  24. todd-thanx for the scoop on the roadways-and give us some info on gunshops, in case i need more hi-base...but i expect basspro will have that crap. and keep yer eyes out for beta mags..may have to hit the crap table somewhere for a quick $250. where u staying? did chris come down with u?
