  1. Sorry about the formatting -- I can't get it corrected.
  2. I've been using my inner and outer DSG belt for about 5 years and really like it - quality is very good. Have used it for many 3 gun matches and the occasional USPSA match. All of my mag pouches and holsters have TekLoks on them and I have applied adhesive Velcro to the inner side of the TekLoks to keep them in place. The original belt is adjustable but the overlapping section is too thick to mount the Tek Loks so I had a shoe repair person cut the excess part of the outer belt off and sew the end closed next to the buckle. I have my belt set up with my holster mounted right next to the buckle and my AR mags in back or in the 8:00 position just behind my pistol mags at 9:00. With the pistol next to the buckle I can then easily put on the belt with the pistol at about the 3:00 position (the buckle is in about the 2:00 position) -- this allows me to have the entire front of my belt (from the pistol to the buckle) open to attach whatever shot shell carriers I need. I have Invictus 12 round carriers and can mount 3 of them if needed for a total of 36 rounds on my belt. With these carriers I can load 2 or load 4 at one time. So in summary I prefer the DSG belt set up (cutting off the excess outer belt is important if you are using shot shell carriers ) because : A. it is very easy to put on and take off (many Safariland users need a second person to help put the belt on) and the belt will never come loose and fall off B. all of my attachments have Tek Loks with Velcro on the back which makes them stable but yet allows me to easily move them around or take them off as needed C. less expensive than Safariland and it has allowed me to use all of the pouches, carriers and holsters that I already had Cons of the DSG set up: A. the belt isn't as stiff as other competition belts but that hasn't been a problem for me even with mounted fully loaded pistol and AR pouches plus full shot shell carriers B. moving, taking off or putting on components is easier with the Safariland but not enough to make me want to switch C. not as cool looking as the Safariland but then again I have always tended to the Black Sheep in the crowd D. if you set it up the way I have you loose the ability to adjust the belt size - this hasn't been a problem for me even when I have to add addition clothing when it is cold out
  3. My wife and I each got a pair of custom SoundGear electronic ear plugs last year and we have been very happy with them. Great customer service. They are expensive but work great. We both shoot 3 gun so we still use our ProEars Gold ear muffs over the top of them when shooting or when near someone shooting compensated ARs. It is nice to be able to walk around during a match in hot weather with just the ear plugs minus the hot muffs and be protected as well as be able to hear people talking.
  4. My wife and I flew into and out of Reagan last year with all our firearms, mags plus some ammo and we had absolutely no problems -- everyone was friendly and were helpful with our Pelican cases -- flew Alaska. It is easy to avoid D.C. when leaving the airport which as stated earlier is located in Virginia.
  5. Russ, I didn't get in last year but did make it this year so I'm very happy about that and sorry for all the shooters that didn't. Hope you don't take all of the negative comments personally but it is a testament to how popular and desirable the match is -- I know people are upset about not getting in but I don't know of any other fair or feasible system you could have used. Great to have the instant feedback when entering. Keep up the good work.
  6. My wife and I got back to Oregon last night. First time we shot FNH and both of us had a great time. Very well run match - great ROs and staff. We'll be back next year.
  7. This article from the Washington Examiner might be of interest if you are traveling into D.C. during or after the match: Warning: D.C. cops under orders to arrest tourists with empty bullet casings http://washingtonexaminer.com/warning-d.c.-cops-under-orders-to-arrest-tourists-with-empty-bullet-casings/article/2535216
  8. I was wondering the same thing --- we have a flight home Sunday morning.
  9. We're flying into Reagan International from Oregon. Everything I've been able to read online implies that flying into Reagan with guns and ammo should be no different than any other airport. Anyone know if that is NOT the case ? Thanks, Jerry
  10. I called the Hampton Inn in Winchester about 4 hours ago -- they only had 4 rooms left at the match rate - I reserved one so that left 3 rooms. Does the Hampton Inn in Martinsburg have the same room rate of $81 as the Winchester one ?
  11. Hey Larry, Has the round count been posted yet or am I looking in the wrong place ? As my wife and I are coming from Oregon I have to arrange getting ammo out there ahead of time. Thanks, Jerry
  12. Thanks for clarifying that -- I obviously didn't remember correctly what I was told. Didn't mean to denigrate anyone.
  13. Rich, I just checked the old forum entries and the previous owner said a local gunsmith put in the Springer trigger so I stand corrected. When I spoke with Springer Precision I thought they actually said Canyon Creek put in the Springer kits but again I could be wrong - like you said they probably said that CC puts in modified parts. Sorry about that. I know the trigger job done by Springer was better than the stock trigger and the Springer kit that was in the pistol. It took about 3 weeks turn around when I had it done a couple months ago. Jerry
  14. I'm a little late to the trigger job discussion but I have two XDm 5.25 9 mm. Got them used but like new condition. One had a stock trigger and the other had a Springer Precision trigger installed by Canyon Creek. I sent the first gun to Springer Precision and had them do a 3.25 lb. trigger job on it. The results were a huge improvement over the stock trigger plus it was better than the Canyon Creek one so I called Springer Precision and they said that Canyon Creek just installs the trigger kit but when they (Sp.Precision) do a trigger job they do additional polishing and tweeking of the parts. I could feel a noticeable difference between the two --- the Springer Precision job had a crisper break and shorter reset. The difference was enough so that I had them do a trigger job on my other XDm. I just got back from the MGM Ironman match and the XDm ran perfect. My two cents worth.
  15. Hi Jack -- thanks for your service. Semper Fi
  16. Hello, Thanks for all of the information on shooting competition in Israel. I wasn't aware of that. My wife is an NRA instructor and gives concealed carry classes. We visited Israel last summer and were amazed at how restrictive the firearm laws are there for the private citizen. In fact, yesterday she had printed out the Israeli regulations on who can own a firearm. From what I can tell,if you can qualify, you can only own one handgun and one long gun. Our guide in Israel was telling us how difficult it was to own a gun there and especially difficult to get a concealed carry permit. Anyway, it is great to have you as new member. Jerry P.S. I shoot a CZ SP-01 Shadow
  17. Love the Wilson ETM mags -- load much easier than the 47D. That being said, my wife has 11,000 rounds through her gun and I have 16,500 through mine and we shared twelve 47D mags during that period and never had any problems with them and never changed the springs and rarely if ever cleaned them. Starting to transition over to the ETMs -- during the first match with them somebody stepped on one and put a small "dimple" in it from a rock when it got stepped on --- this interfered with the follower -- sent it to Wilson and they replaced it at no charge.
  18. For years I have used Blade Tech for my 1911,Glock and CZ -- never had any problems with them. Also use their mag pouches. Great service from them -- called them to get a replacement part for one of the pouches that had a crack in it from heavy use and they sent me a new pouch at no charge.
  19. I use ProEars if shooting pistol and Impacts if shooting long guns plus custom molded plugs under the ear muffs. My molded ones don't have filters but sounds like it is worth getting them.
  20. Ditto about the ETM mags -- they load much easier in my 9 mm and 45 ACP 1911s plus they have wider base pads.
  21. I have the RMR non-variable LED model RM01 in a Burkett offset mount and love it -- this model has no on-off setting and the battery is supposed to last over a year and so far mine has done that - I put a new battery in the first of every year. The dot is very bright and if the battery starts to run down the dot is supposed to get gradually dimmer rather that go out suddenly - so far I haven't had that happen. The no on-off button prevents the problem of starting a stage and forgetting to turn your dot on or accidentally turning it off before the stage plus you never have to worry about adjusting the brightness. I also have the Dual-Illumination model, the 9 MOA dot model RM05, mounted on my shotgun which I also like. Normally I don't like that large of a dot but I have come to really like it on my shotgun. Big plus for this model is it never needs batteries. I guess if I was forced to pick just one (tough decision for me)I would got with the the RM01 as I personally prefer the red over the amber color -- it is more intense and easy to pick up when moving and shooting. So things for you to consider is what color and what size dot do you prefer -- hopefully you can get a chance to look at both mounted before buying. That said -- I think you would be happy with either.
