Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Sorry about the formatting -- I can't get it corrected.
  2. I've been using my inner and outer DSG belt for about 5 years and really like it - quality is very good. Have used it for many 3 gun matches and the occasional USPSA match. All of my mag pouches and holsters have TekLoks on them and I have applied adhesive Velcro to the inner side of the TekLoks to keep them in place. The original belt is adjustable but the overlapping section is too thick to mount the Tek Loks so I had a shoe repair person cut the excess part of the outer belt off and sew the end closed next to the buckle. I have my belt set up with my holster mounted right next to the buckle and my AR mags in back or in the 8:00 position just behind my pistol mags at 9:00. With the pistol next to the buckle I can then easily put on the belt with the pistol at about the 3:00 position (the buckle is in about the 2:00 position) -- this allows me to have the entire front of my belt (from the pistol to the buckle) open to attach whatever shot shell carriers I need. I have Invictus 12 round carriers and can mount 3 of them if needed for a total of 36 rounds on my belt. With these carriers I can load 2 or load 4 at one time. So in summary I prefer the DSG belt set up (cutting off the excess outer belt is important if you are using shot shell carriers ) because : A. it is very easy to put on and take off (many Safariland users need a second person to help put the belt on) and the belt will never come loose and fall off B. all of my attachments have Tek Loks with Velcro on the back which makes them stable but yet allows me to easily move them around or take them off as needed C. less expensive than Safariland and it has allowed me to use all of the pouches, carriers and holsters that I already had Cons of the DSG set up: A. the belt isn't as stiff as other competition belts but that hasn't been a problem for me even with mounted fully loaded pistol and AR pouches plus full shot shell carriers B. moving, taking off or putting on components is easier with the Safariland but not enough to make me want to switch C. not as cool looking as the Safariland but then again I have always tended to the Black Sheep in the crowd D. if you set it up the way I have you loose the ability to adjust the belt size - this hasn't been a problem for me even when I have to add addition clothing when it is cold out
  3. My wife and I each got a pair of custom SoundGear electronic ear plugs last year and we have been very happy with them. Great customer service. They are expensive but work great. We both shoot 3 gun so we still use our ProEars Gold ear muffs over the top of them when shooting or when near someone shooting compensated ARs. It is nice to be able to walk around during a match in hot weather with just the ear plugs minus the hot muffs and be protected as well as be able to hear people talking.
  4. My wife and I flew into and out of Reagan last year with all our firearms, mags plus some ammo and we had absolutely no problems -- everyone was friendly and were helpful with our Pelican cases -- flew Alaska. It is easy to avoid D.C. when leaving the airport which as stated earlier is located in Virginia.
  5. Russ, I didn't get in last year but did make it this year so I'm very happy about that and sorry for all the shooters that didn't. Hope you don't take all of the negative comments personally but it is a testament to how popular and desirable the match is -- I know people are upset about not getting in but I don't know of any other fair or feasible system you could have used. Great to have the instant feedback when entering. Keep up the good work.
  6. My wife and I got back to Oregon last night. First time we shot FNH and both of us had a great time. Very well run match - great ROs and staff. We'll be back next year.
  7. This article from the Washington Examiner might be of interest if you are traveling into D.C. during or after the match: Warning: D.C. cops under orders to arrest tourists with empty bullet casings http://washingtonexaminer.com/warning-d.c.-cops-under-orders-to-arrest-tourists-with-empty-bullet-casings/article/2535216
  8. I was wondering the same thing --- we have a flight home Sunday morning.
  9. We're flying into Reagan International from Oregon. Everything I've been able to read online implies that flying into Reagan with guns and ammo should be no different than any other airport. Anyone know if that is NOT the case ? Thanks, Jerry
  10. I called the Hampton Inn in Winchester about 4 hours ago -- they only had 4 rooms left at the match rate - I reserved one so that left 3 rooms. Does the Hampton Inn in Martinsburg have the same room rate of $81 as the Winchester one ?
  11. Hey Larry, Has the round count been posted yet or am I looking in the wrong place ? As my wife and I are coming from Oregon I have to arrange getting ammo out there ahead of time. Thanks, Jerry
  12. Thanks for clarifying that -- I obviously didn't remember correctly what I was told. Didn't mean to denigrate anyone.
