  1. When I first read the title of this thread, I thought "Why would someone paint the inside of their magwell Eggshell Blue?"
  2. I'm in CA and I had GANs on my short list for a build (my wide body frame, slide, parts, etc...) until he posted this policy. I don't agree with it for all of the reasons BOB stated, however, it's Mr. Natale's business and his to run according to his rules so I have to respect that.
  3. The other one I hate is drivers who turn left at intersections with several clearly posted signs that say "NO LEFT TURN".
  4. There's a website for everything: Chuck Noris Facts From the Top 50: Ghosts sit around the campfire and tell Chuck Norris stories.
  5. Very nice. I'm in the process of the same project. Before I quit in the late 90s, I did not care about the looks as long as the gun was a shooter. Since coming back last year, I find I want the gun to at least be presentable. Rework of my limited gun is in process and I should get my Ruger MkII back by September sometime. Here's two pics of my first completed project - my ss blaster.
  6. Not one that "bugs" me, but I do find it amusing. This is another contribution from my better half: "It's a doggy dog world" She first heard it many years ago as a recruiter for a large insurance company. After the interview, she and her colleages had quite a laugh during the debrief while they came to the conclusion that it must have been a contraction of: "It's a dog-eat-dog world". We chuckle about it every now and then especically because we love dogs...
  7. The points scored may be a little deceiving unless you also count all of your extra shots. The star killed you on this stage but you had misses on the fixed plates and the rack too. I'd suggest that when you can drop your steel one-for-one consistently, you can turn up the speed dial. What will happen is that you will develop your skills related to the motions required, i.e. reloads, target acquisting and transition, moving from/to positions, etc... and your elapsed time will decrease. None of that really counts unless you know you've hit the target. Yep - you sure went chasing after the last plate on the star. Probably better to setup on one spot for that last plate and shoot it coming into that spot. But the order you took on the star was fine (head, arms, legs) - the last one just got away from you. It also looked like you were shooting low on that last plate. Gotta start somewhere. You can prep the gun moving into position so that as soon as you're in position, you can break the first shot. Example: the distance between the star and next array seemed pretty short. In addition to doing the reload, you might try keeping the gun up high, so that the sights are in your peripheral vision as your eyes find the target. If you didn't have to reload, you may choose not to dismount the gun at all. Yes. Comes with practice. You'll get better. Didn't notice a hop, but I did notice that you engaged the paper left-to-right and then the steel right-to-left. Any particular reason? Nothing wrong with that although I'd do it only if I had to get there anyway. Looks like those four papers that you engaged last could have been taken from any of the other positions? They were certainly visible. With 163/165 points on the stage, you can obviously shoot As. Could you have engaged them from one of the earlier positions without dropping significant points? Looking good for a first match. As you develop, you'll see stages and be able to gauge how best to apply the skills that you have to the stage.
  8. I think you got the price wrong its not $260 ... the basic SV grip starts @ $450 Actually it's ~$450 for an aluminum grip Add $135 for either a steel or stainless grip Add $60 for an aluminum magwell or $100 for a steel/stainless magwell I'm having Brandon fit one to refurb an old frame and in addition to the above, he suggested a new grip safety (+$70) so that he could blend it to the rear strap of the frame/grip. Your frame may/may not need a new grip safety, but I think he's done enough of these retrofits that do need it so he recommends it up front. My tab is right at ~$1,000 and includes a few additional parts for the refurb and shipping. I should have it back by mid September and I'll update this thread to let you all know how it turned out.
  9. Because the gun is personal, it does require an investment of time to explore and experiment to determine which choice is right for you. Often an equipment recommendation may work fine for one shooter/gun but not at all for you or your gun. It takes time (and often a little bit of $$) to find what works for you. The shooting community is usually very willing to let fellow shooters try everything from guns to rigs to yes, even magazines. This is perhaps the best way to get to know other shooters as well as try stuff without throwing down for a set of mags (tuned or not). Just be sure to reciprocate. Then, if you want to try that <insert item here> order it up. I'd suggest that you shoot what you have and only add or change one thing at a time. But no matter how logically or systematically you approach this sport, you will inevitably end up with far more stuff than you need to actually shoot. That's what the Classifieds are for...
  10. +1 on preventing slide (it's really the hammer I think) bite and fitting the BHP to the new shooter. I don't know if stock commander hammers have the recess under the spur that helps to prevent hammer bite, so it's worth a look to see. If you can prevent a pinch and the inevitable bleeding, it would go a long way towards ensuring a positive experience with the gun for the youngster.
  11. Like with the shooting, assembly/disassembly of the 1911/2011 style practically becomes instinctive after a few hundred repetitions. I stopped shooting in the late 90's only to pick it up again late last year. When I went to take apart my guns recently, it all came back without even thinking. Make sure you have decent and properly sized tools to avoid buggering parts/things.
  12. Brand new? I'd say the odds are slim, but obviously, not none. Do you have another 1911/2011 gun from which you can pull another firing pin for comparison? Does the new pin fit (bend and all) in the gun? If installed, can you push on it with a punch and see the tip pass through the breechface? If the new one is really bent, you'll probably want to send it back for a replacement.
  13. Definitely not a Match Screw-Up. I'd be quite pleased if I "screwed up" my second match as well as you did! I'll add a comment/suggestion and that is to strive for smoothness in your motions. This will come in time and with practice, but thinking "smooth" is a good place to start. All of your actions/motions after the buzzer should be a continuous flow until you're finished. Strive for a smooth draw, engagement, reload, transition (physically and visually) to the next array, etc... You can check out the Tips sub forum and post future videos there. The same good folks will be around for future critiques.
  14. "Don't try this at home. I am professional Russian." This guy is hilarious!
  15. I like when he turns on the 1M lumens light... "it's just like day light"
  16. I have a gun in Graphite Black CeraKote (oven cure). I've noticed that like painting wood, sharp edges don't hold well. On mine, the front edge of the slide just past the bushing is wearing from dry fire practice. The rest of it seems to be fine. If I ever get it redone, I'll have to break that edge and look for any others first.
  17. Chuck Norris doesn't do pushups - he pushes the earth down. When the Boogey Man goes to sleep he checks under the bed for Chuck Norris.
  18. hmm... I'm already old and don't care what people say - without drinking. Maybe if I start drinking they'll disappear?
  19. My redone franken gun for SSD: SA frame Caspian slide SLM barrel ICE magwell EB safeties Larry D's Monkey grips Graphite Black CeraKote
  20. Nice looking ride. A few in that color have just started showing up around here in the SF Bay Area. Me likey - me likey a lot.
  21. Naw - no relation. But I like hogs, or at least pork. Make that pork back ribs,
  22. How about "un-installed" as in a termination? I'm an IT guy that works closely with various departments, HR being one of them. Oh and now I think what used to be HR is now HCM - Human Capital Management. On "When you peel it back..." I believe the person was refering to a fruit or a vegetable - perhaps an onion. Like in the Shrek movie - "Onions have layers Donkey!"
  23. Here's a contribution from my better half: "When you peel it back..." My first reaction was "What're you peeling? A banana?" Her boss uses it in meetings. For example: "When you peel it back, the reason this thread is so entertaining is because these catch phrases and sayings are simultaneoulsy amusing and annoying."
  24. The EB unit will fit both 1911 and 2011 frames. Couldn't tell you about box legal, but 45mm seems like it should accomodate the safety.
