  1. Welcome Scott! OK. Wipe off the drool and get to the shootin'!!
  2. On both fronts, Congrats and Welcome!
  3. I'm loving the mini-porta-potty On range carts, I've been thinking of using one as well. In my case, I think I'm fighting a little denial that I'm getting older and that the range bag is pretty heavy to be schlepping around all day. Like others have said, be sure to know the rules regarding safe handling of your guns while on the range and configure your cart to comply.
  4. Well I have no such excuse. Yesterday was the "old timer battle of the brain farts" match. Someone else: 3 FTE + 6 Mikes because he engaged the same three paper array twice, but forgot the other one Another: 12 procedurals for foot faulting Yes - all on the same stage....
  5. No experience with the Signature grip, but SV (or your 'smith) can fit one to your frame. Apparently fitting is not recommended for dremel warriors like me . Labor + the cost of the grip of your choice.
  6. OK - I don't know if this should be under "Hell, I was there... Match Screw Ups" or here under humor. But if I can laugh at myself, at least it's not grossly miscategorized. Shot a local match today. Nice weather, low key, squads moving right along... you get the idea. Going into the last stage, I had a couple of mikes, one no shoot - not my best performance so I tell myself "Finish strong", "Just shoot it clean". I get to the last four paper array after a blazing reload and I go BANG, BANG, BANG, click, WTF? I forgot to reload the magazine . I know this is nothing new, but it was a first for me. I swear that click was deafening. At least I shot clean. and yes, the standing reload was caught on video....
  7. Good luck with the wife +1 to monster bracing wherever you position your press. Like others have said, bolt the bench to the wall. TMC - That's a great idea! I'm gonna use that. My comments for JJJ: Maybe too late now, but those 2 bys would be more rigid if layed up on edge - like a torsion box frame. I'd still skin it with ply like you did and I'd also add a .25" melamine sheet for a top surface to make it easy to clean. If your ply already has a smooth face, maybe not needed. You may want to reconsider the position of your supply shelf. It looks to be directly in front of your electrical service panel. Looking good though. I'm remodeling the house this year and hope to include a reloading/work bench in the plans.
  8. Sounds like you have a stock mag catch. Check around because there are options for extending so that you minimise your grip shifting. There are extended catches that are a little longer but don't have a button. There are buttons in various shapes and profiles but these require a D&T mag catch. Maybe check with other folks who have one or the other and ask to check out their guns. Whatever you decide, if you change something like this, do a lot of dry fire to get used to the change.
  9. Is the mag catch already drilled and tapped? If so, start shopping for a button. Please keep in mind that a button adds to the width of that particular part and I've seen about a bajillion table starts blown because the shooter pushed down on the gun and ejected the mag on the pickup. If not caught, this results in the the BANG, click, !&*$*$%# Some folks also bump the button just shooting and get the same result. I guess I'm saying it may take some getting used to so if you want one, get one and dry fire a lot. Personally, I use the Cylinder & Slide button.
  10. I also took an extended period off (12 years +/-) and just came back late last year. Yes it is like riding a bike. Keep safety first and then let everything else flow. I swear, half the fun is gearing up again. That's the expensive half . The other half is just enjoying the experience all over again like a beginner. I'd also suggest that you review the current rulebook to become familiar with any rule changes that may have been passed while you were gone. on the comeback!
  11. I got my Safariland pouches, well the mount hangers really, to fit but it wasn't easy. I tried Saul's tip of using a thin stiff "blade" - I think he used a CD - to slip the belt into the mounting hanger. That didn't work for me. I go two words for you: rubber mallet Once mounted, they do not move AT ALL.
  12. Here's my bully, Porter. Porter is short for Porterhouse, like the steak... First pic is from the breeder at six weeks. Second is more recent. He's just over three years old now.
  13. +1 on making the effort to stay local to your community. I've attended a number of charity matches where the proceed went directly to a community member in need. These have always left me with the warm fuzzies because I knew exactly where those proceeds went. Ask around. The community member in need may or may not be a member of your shooting club.
  14. I'm shooting the AAA 40 long in my limited franken gun (STI frame, Springfield slide, Limcat barrel, etc...). Very consistent ammo and it chronos around 173-175 out of my 5" gun. Good shooting!
  15. Dude... You don't even have it in your hands yet. Shoot it first then decide if you want to or need to change anything. If you're truly detail oriented, you'll understand about approaching things in a logical and systematic manner and buying a new guide rod assembly for a gun you've never shot is neither. Do you know what you're going to feed it? Your ammo or factory? I'd suggest that you get in some range time to see if the ammo you shoot works for this gun before you start changing things. When you get it to the range, bench it for accuracy and function it for reliability. Don't change anything until you know where it shoots with your ammo and that it reliably shoots your ammo. Once you know where it shoots, if it groups off of your POA then you start fussing with the sights. Once you are sure it functions with your ammo, then cut the dogs loose and change anything you want. I'd only change one thing at a time, but that's just me. I was just busting your chops about the thumb safety Post more pics when you have it.
  16. I put one on order in December with the 10-12 month eta. I wish I had known (and wish Brandon would have mentioned it) about the pay up front option to shorten the turnaround time. I think I'm going to have talk to Brandon about that...
  17. I can appreciate the need to know whether or not the part is factory or not - I'm the same way with my guns and many other things too. It comes from being, uh, detail oriented. However, unless the rod, spring or plug is damaged or not functioning properly, knowing who made it won't affect how you shoot the gun. So if you want to change it out with brand x for peace of mind, then knock yourself out. Stainless rods aren't very expensive nor are springs or plugs and you can always use this unit in another gun or as a backup. Like others, I couldn't really tell from the fuzzy photo, but it looks like a straight up, SS, one piece FLGR with spring, plug and shok buff - nothing fancy, nothing special. BTW - the grooves in the thumb safety pads need cleaning... If you want to change it because you want the gun to shoot differently, that's another story. Some folks like a little more weight out in front and pop for a tungsten rod. It'll add a couple of additional ounces under the muzzle and will cost about $90. Congrats on your first 2011 !!
  18. Poor Rick Astley will never live this one down...
  19. My coworker's (who is more friend than coworker) Mom, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while visiting on vacation. She (the mother) became so sick and weak so quickly that she could not even return home to die. It was a tragic situation for her and her family. I know five people who have died of various cancers. I dread adding to that count.
  20. Thanks for the underside pic. I assume the two piece allows one to: 1] remove the C-more for gun disassembly if one has a left side racker and 2] purchase a separate mounting bracket for a backup C-More. Have you tried and does it return the same zero?
  21. That's an interesting 90 degree C-More mount. It looks like a two piece?
  22. lumpygravy

    Which one?

Craft micro brew please Project Runway or Say Yes to the Dress? (note: I'm not watching this drivel, but my better half has the remote right now )
  23. I'm envious! I have my first SV on order eta, September-October. The seconds cannot tick by fast enough. I'm getting hte skull tape too...
  24. lumpygravy

    Which one?

Like the glass cams, but I've never seen a set with the safety rating (ANSI?) so I'm going to a hat/ear muff cam. candles or aerosol air freshener (for those times when you let one rip and it ain't so fresh)?
