  1. So I had a flood in my basement about 4 weeks ago. About 1' of water came through the sewer. MY gun safe is in the basement and even though it's water proof I didn't seal the bottom so the water got all in. My AR got all rusty just from the humidity even though only the palstic butt stock got wet but I digress. I left the safe open a few days to air out and when it felt dry I closed it up and a few days later decided to check on my babies and saw mold conolies growing the and the smell was horrid. So I pulled all the guns and everything out. I removed the shelves with the mold colonies, I can show pics it's gross, I let it air out some more about 2 weeks with the door open. Well I have kids so not having the guns locked up is very dumb, I thought it was dry closed it up for a few days and today I opened it again and the stench is back. I'm going to have to do something to kill this mold and am not sure what. On the walls and etc in the basement I sprayed a fungicide which smells like pinesol and it worked great! But I am hesistant to spray that into the gun safe and am looking for alternatives first. Anyone else every have this problem? What'd you do to fix it?
  2. last year I did a little research, went to a few local gun stores, and kinda had in the back of my head an idea of what I wanted. I've been shooting a BHP for quite a few years now and knew it was time for an upgrade. So I wasn't ready yet to "pull the trigger" yet (pun intended har har) but my friend bought a glock. I shot it, it was ok, I hated the sights, but that's easily corrected. I just didn't like the feel. Also after seeing that dumb ATF agent shoot himself in the leg with a class full of kids, and I learned you have to pull the trigger to decock before a strip, that was a saftey violation in my mind and was an immediate dq for the glock. Then my sis in law wanted to buy her first gun, told me what she had to spend and I told her she could get a good gun for the money. We hit the local gun store. She tried a few guns including the glock and M&P and I think a sig or two. None of them she liked. On the other side of the store they had the spring fields and I said, the XDM is good gun. She picked it up and immediately liked the feel and though she wanted the 2-tone she bought the black model 4.5". I got a chance to shoot it and it was at the time the most accurate out of the box pistol I've ever shot. I was ripping up the paper with a brand new gun I've never shot before and it was beautifully sighted in. I was still in the market for a new gun, but hadn't had the money yet because I wanted to buy a shot gun, was starting a 2nd business, etc.. (life happens) I had my choice narrowed down to the M&P pro because I wanted to get into competition and really wanted something longer than 4.5". Also the front sight and trigger pull on the pro was a plus over the xdm 4.5. Sorry XDM, I thought, it was always in the back of my head a little buyers remorse even though I didn't buy the M&P yet. Then my book keeper expressed an interest in buying a pistol, and I sold him my kel-tec p9. Well he fell in love with shooting, what sane person wouldn't. But he wanted some thing full size so to the gun store we went. He asked what he should get, we tried the usual, the unusual and then I pushed him towards the xdm. he liked the feel. A few days later he went in and bought it. Ooops, he got the 45 instead of the 9 he wanted. Upon pickup I went to the store with him and noticed his mistake. The gun store graciously allowed him (and me Yay!) to try for free their 45 and their 9 xdm models on the range, just pay for ammo. I loved both and was suprised how accurate the 45 was because I guess I am a puss, I really don't like a 45 acp, or so I thought. Anyways he settled on the 9mm and a few days later he had it and I won a bet that I could keep a 4" group at 50 feet with it. So people asked me since I was XDM's #1 cheerleader why I didn't own one yet. I always answered I want something longer than the 4.5. I almost bought the m&p a couple times, but the price locally was high and I just didn't feel like going the gun broker route. Then I heard the XDM was releasing the 5.25" and I put aside all thoughts of picking up the M&P pro. Immediately I wanted the xdm 5.25. Saturday 2 weeks ago I went to two gun stores, because I wanted to touch feel smell and taste the gun before I made the purchase. I saw the M&P pro had dropped in price substantially, enough that I was confused again which to get. Well last Saturday I reluctantly decided to pick up the M&P pro because it was $560 vs the DM 5.25 which was $730. After doing the math I figured the M&P would be cheaper even after buying the holsters and extra mag. So I went to buy the M&P. I guess it was fate that I bought the XDM because when I went to buy the M&P 9 pro, they sold it already and the clerk (whom I'd never seen before) at the gun store was telling me he could not sell it to me anyways because I was not LE. WTF? That's another story. I immediately went to the other gun store recognizing my destiny and bought the XDM 5.25! So why did I buy the XDM? The only answer I can come up with is Fate, it was meant to be. Sorry for the long post, I guess I felt like typing Either that or I'm in love
  3. They had the same promo last year. I was told it wasn't going on anymore, but literally the day after I brought the gun home I saw the add and promtly signed up! Woo hoo! Got 3 free range passes on top of it from the gun store. The price of the 5.25 doesn't seem so high anymore! Anyont think Springfield did this because M&P pro price got lowered $80 after the 5.25 was released? Edit: I just realized Sept 1st is the cut off date. MY receipt was dated August 28th... I haven't been denied yet, but I fear it's coming!
  4. What upper receiver would you want? What lower receiver would you want? What barrel would you want? stainless, cryo if reasonable. 1:7 or 1:8. What length of barrel would you want? 18-20" Would you want traditional gas driven or piston driven system? gas is fine if you keep it clean What trigger system would you want? Would you want a full length stock or a collapsible stock? collapsable to fit me, probably a Magpul prs What comp / flash suppressor would you want? miculek or bennie cooley What Bolt Carrier / Bolt Carrier Group would you want? chrome
  5. Here is my take on the XDM 5.25 after getting a few hundred rounds through it this morning. <cough cough> I'm still hacking up a lung from all that gun smoke. I wouldn't say I am a novice shooter but I haven't yet shot my first USPSA. I plan to now that I have all the necessary gear. I am comparing this firearm to my expeirences shooting various other pistols including the XDM 4.5, S&W M&P, Browning Hi Power, Glocks and more. I tried the various back straps, the middle one was a little too small, but the large one a little too big, I find I shoot best with the middle back strap and a glove. I'll either have to cut off the finger tips or really practice more with finger manipulations while wearing gloves. Recoil wasn't bad, there was almost nothing when wearing a glove on my strong hand. I tried with various ammo including Winchester 124 gr and Federal 115 gr. I even tried some wolf because I had it laying around and I will say the 5.25 does NOT like wolf, nor should it lol. I doubt I'll ever shoot any wolf through it ever again. I just wanted to try. The XDM5.25 seemed to shoot best with the 124 grain. I intend to try more and various ammo at a later date at a longer range. I zeroed the sights at 50' using the 124 gr. Out of the box the sights were waaay low and waaay left. I thought I was jerking the trigger (right handed) so I set the gun on a rest and slowly squeezed a few times making sure there was no way I was jerking. After 20 or so shots I knew the sights were just way off and so I adjusted. No big deal, I don't know why I expected them to be sighted in. <shrug> I like the front sight, but think it's maybe a little big. I'm going to search for a smaller fiber optic front sight I have a red fiber on my SLP shot gun and just checked, the slp front dot is substantially smaller. My target was a 1" square at 25 and 50'. At 50' the bead completely covered my 1" square. Speaking of trigger, I've got to do something about it. I don't plan on it yet, as previously stated I want to shoot a match totally stock so I have something to compare against when I start to add mods. The slack is just too much for my tastes. I just tested my BHP and there is alot less trigger movement before the snap with the BHP, and that's what I am most used to shooting. FWIW I put both triggers on my RCBS trigger pull gauage and each maxed out the gauge past 72 oz (4.5 LBS). Overall I like the gun, I like the weight, I like the feel. I'm happy with my purchase but need more trigger time with the gun. I'll win no awards for this, but at 21' I shot a 6 shot group within 2" with the XDM. I'm going to try to take it to 25 yards next week and see what it can do and what ammo it likes the best. With my BHP I can not hit a 2'x3' paper at 100 yards with an offhand shot, I get pretty close. I wonder if I can with the XD 5.25. After reading the warranty document. I am curious if anyone else has noticed that using reloads will void the factory warranty? Probably a standard line in every firearm warranty document, I've just never noticed before.
  6. You'll find a few threads on this forum where Rob is talking about his trigger mods. I too think the trigger could be a little bit better, but I don't plan to change anything until after I get some serious range time and a match or two with the new pistol.
  7. Various towns around my Chicago area have mag capacities as well. Here is a restriction list you may find handy... Restrictions (Revised 11/12/2010) Handguns and Magazines: Cailifornia: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine (handguns must be on state approved list) Hawaii: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine Cook County, Illinois: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine Oak Park Illinois: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine Massachusetts: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine(handguns must be on state approved list) New York: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine Washington D.C.: Cannot ship more than 10 round magazine Chicago, Illinois: Cannot ship more than 12 round magazine Aurora, Illinois: Cannot ship more than 15 round magazine Cicero, Illinois: Cannot ship more than 15 round magazine New Jersey: Cannot ship more than 15 round magazine Franklin Park, Illinois: Cannot ship more than 16 round magazine Maryland: Cannot ship more than 20 round magazine (handguns must be on state approved list) Denver City, Colorado: Cannot ship more than 21 round magazine Vail, Colorado: Cannot ship more than 21 round magazine What's funny is that Chicago is in Cook County and while Cook County allows only 10 round mags, Chicago allows 12.... Hmmmm BTW the gun store I bought my XDM is located in Cook County and they sell mags of various load counts so it's a law not often enforced I suppose. Notice something. The list is 15 minicipalities, and 6 are in Illinois.
  8. I bought mine yesterday and pick it up tuesday and am in the process of ordering a variety of different ammo to see which one it likes to eat the most. No time for hand loads yt, maybe when I retire, so it's all going to be various factory loads. If you've got any suggestions in which direction to start, that may eliminate some trial and error on my part. However I plan to test different manufacturers, price points and grains and test at different ranges as well.
  9. I just bought mine, I pick it up on Tuesday. I don't plan to do ANY mods until after a match or two. I expect it to shoot near perfect base don my experience with the xdm4.5. Someone said they were quoted $860?! I didn't pay anywhere near $800 for mine and have seen them go for $650 on gunbroker.
  10. Anyone seeing any issues with the 5.25? I've been wanting one for about 2 months since I heard about it (dropped the idea of a S&W9 pro immediately). having a good month and thinking of investing in the 5.25 next week. I'd think no issues, but before I "pull the trigger" (pun intended) I wanted to get some user input.
  11. Hi there from CHICAGO, the only place worse than Illinois. Yeah willshoot is a cool website, found it on this forum. Les probably spammed it on my intro thread too
  12. LOL yeah! I started the great twist reate debate. I wouldn;t dare bring this up at m4carbine because if you shoot anything other than 1:7 you're a loser over there. 1:8 is probably more than adequate. I tend to fall into ANALysis paralysis.
  13. link is broken has an extra . Fixed: http://jtdistributing.net/store/product1242.html Awww darn it's 1:8. I'm trying to find 1:7 if possible, though it's proving to be a hard task finding a moderately priced 1:7 in stainless. I'll do some more hunting when I have time. I'm sure 1:8 is adequate to my ability and I can find some factory ammo it'll like to eat. I'm probably just being too cheap and too anal.
  14. Depends on the range rules. What about Hornady's new steel match ammo?
  15. Alaska thanks for the reply. Would you say this rule of thumb is fairly consistent among most major barrel manufacturers? I just can't afford spending $500 for a Noveske and am looking for the next best thing less than $300.
  16. I know everyone says the chrome lined barrels are not as accurate. How much "inacurate" are we talking about? At 300 yards would you lose 1/2", or would you lose 3"? For example, my buddy's got a Colt H bar that I am pretty sure is chrome lined 1:7, I have a DPMS I know for sure is not chrome lined 1:9... The 1:7 is far more accurate than the 1:9 shooting just about every ammo we threw at them. I'm wondering if I am splitting hairs worrying about the barrel being chrome lined. Will it really affect my accuracy "that" much? Just trying to get some kind of number I can quantify to aid in making a decision on this new build I am putting together for 3gun. I'm trying to find a balance of value and quality. I don't want to necessarily go cheap but my bank account isn't endless either. I had pretty much decided on a Daniel Defense s2w 18", 1:7, mid lenght until I saw it was chrome lined. https://danieldefense.com/cold-hammer-forged-barrels/18-5-56mm-s2w-mid-length-chf-barrel-stripped.html Everything I've ever read has said stay away from chrome lined... So now I really want to clear this up.
  17. I post alow on craigs list for both businesses when my condo is empty, and is mostly a collosal waste of time. Can't even list a rifle scope for sale. Anyways, I haven't had the problem you listed. Sometimes it takes longer than 15 minutes to show up, but have never had an add NOT show up. They've had captcha for at least a year maybe two now. Weird it didn't pop up yesterday. I beleive you only have to verify your phone number once per account. What Alamo shooter said... yeah. Mostly tools on CL. You get what you pay for.
  18. I have to think that this show is dumbed down and hyped up for the general public who doesn't understand firearms. That cheap piece of chit russian rifle Jerry Miculek "supposedly" bought years ago and wanted tweaked... yeah right. Just an excuse for him to appear on the show. Last year Buzz mcGee or is it Spike McGee I forget, wanted the Katana, a lightened AR... and did malfunction drills to prove how good of a weapon it was? Malfunction drills?! c'mon. I watch ever week, but it is definetly not on my top 10 or list of shows. LOL yeah I laughed at the bullet puller too. I'm not into reloading yet but was thinking WTF are they talking about?! The first season "contractors", swat even military and so forth would come in with impossible orders and at the end of the show always made a purchase. Alot of this show is staged.
  19. Work is picking up and after a few bills are paid off, shhhh don't tell the wife, but we will have a secret new addition to the family.

    Lowe's

Lowes is cool. I went to buy 3,400 sqft of concrete paver tle Tuesday. Did you know they will give price reductions for bulk purchases? 12% discount. Too bad they had to call "corporate" and didn't get me my price until the next day. I had already purchased elsewhere. I didn't get as much discount but sometimes timing is more important than price. Good luck with the new fridge.
  21. Ah hah! I was smart enought o book mark it. It's wiil shoot or wisconsin illinois shoot http://www.wiilshoot.com/ Check the calendar for dates and locations
  22. There are a few around IL, Aurora Gun Club has 3 gun I believe. Action rifle for sure and i think USPSA. Kenosha Convervation Club in Bristol WI has action shooting. There was a poster here who posted a website with a calendar of competition shooting. I will see if I can find it.
  23. It is "tacti-cool". It would look dorky on my 700 with 26" barrel.
