  1. I'd reconsider that. After finding my lead level too high I was told that a big contributing factor was eating after shooting without washing my hands first. not a big problem here, wash station is about 40 feet away, we even installed an electric hand dryer there. When the food comes out, the line forms at the outdoor sink, or you see a lot of hand wipes coming out. michaels
  2. at our range the squads are usually 8 plus shooters, we call out the order of shooters for the shooter, the on deck shooter and the person in the hole, then it's by name for at least 3 tapers, one steel setter and a mag/brass person. Anybody left over can help or stay behind. We've put a safety area on each or next to each bay so a shooter after shooting can bag their gun, hoping that not having a gun on will make you want to go down range and work without the hassle of the gun on you. Over the next couple of matches we will have awnings down range closer to the start position, we hope that this will get people more involved, instead of sitting way back under the over hangs. We even offer food on one stage (chips/salsa) to help motivate shooters, we keep it right down by the start area. After all this, I guess if those couple of range loafers fail to help, then we're just gonna have to cap their ass's and leave them for buzzards. michaels
  3. For one practice session, I loaded up 300 rounds of 9mm 124 grain lead (not moly coated, just plain lead) and ran them with about 2.9 - 3.1 grains of titegroup. These were shot out of a stock g17 with the factory barrel. I noticed that after 85-90 rounds, I was not getting good groups. I added maybe another 30 rounds and started to get flyers. I'm talking flyers of about 1 foot plus! Swapped barrels to an after market barrel and the groups went back down to normal and not one flyer. When I was done, looking down the stock barrel, it looked like a 25 cal barrel now. Took about 20 minutes of the acid cleaning to get it clean. I would guess that if I had continued with stock barrel, at some point soon, I would have caused severe damage to the barrel and probably my hand... Tried it again a couple of days later with bear creek moly coated 135 grain bullets and shot 400 plus rounds out of the stock barrel, maybe a little bit of a lead or moly mark, cleaned it right out with a about 5 rounds of white box fmj. not a scientific test, but in my gun, with the stock barrel, no more than a few lead bullets without moly. Just doesn't seem worth the chance of injury. michaels
  4. back in the day when danbagger used to shoot with us, he didn't need moons, just loaded them freestyle from his pocket.... michaels

    G 27

buy the aftermarket barrel, get two, one in 40 and the 2nd one in 9mm. some g27's let nines work in them without having to change the extractor, which is super easy anyway, and the nines feed pretty good in my 40 mags. you never know when that great deal will come along for 9mm ammo.. michaels
  6. the Surgi's should adopt Rich into their family.... michaels
  7. Norbert, you are way to generous. For slots, it's every man for himself. Only exception are the couples I know. (Unless, of course, you're a threesome? ) Just kidding, dude - here's hoping we can make for a huge Richmond HotShots squad using two computers at the same time I got into the rev at #11 and then into the other group at #147 or something like that. I would have figured they'd be really close to each other. I was done at 8:03pm. Kevin, have fun with that slot.... michaels
  8. My Flight was canceled Friday night! I hope to make it next year! Thanks John Jbag, put a big tank in the Ford Lighting and drive next time. Had to be US Airways, huh? michaels
  9. Chuck, if you keep a couple of the plastic moons for the 45 with you, and you think you might have to tac reload, they work pretty well for tac reloads. When you go to reuse one of the plastic moons, just flick the empties off the moon and drop the moon back into cylinder with just the live rounds left. Try to index it if you remember. For SSR, you just turn the cylinder upside down and the live rounds fall out into your hand, pocket those, and then kick the empties onto the ground. I did once have to range lawyer when a speedload malfunctioned on the reload and spewed all six live rounds onto the ground. Got the procedural for leaving live ammo on the ground. I asked the SO what he'd do if the floorplate came off his mag while he was doing a reload. He was kind enough to realize if was about the same thing and he removed the procedural.... michaels
  10. Who do I see about that??? Cliff, are you staying with Jbag & Danbagger this weekend? mike That's the plan. OK, today Dan returned the Vet Reference medical books that he borrowed from my wife that she uses in her clinic, one of the books appeared to have had a section photocopied from it, you could tell by the way the spine of the book was bent and the pages were a little out of wack. The section copied was 4.2.5 thru 4.3.8, all about castration of farm animals. Good luck with the match, tell Elliot hi for me and I'm sorry I couldn't make the match. Michaels

  12. what about the revolvers that have been converted to DA only, that block is removed and if you've replaced your stock hammer with an APEX hammer, it is also removed, there is no room for it? michael sousa - and yes I was there with a gun that was da only and an apex hammer...
  13. Ill be there with the Buellton Bunch. Hearthco Richmonds sending down part of the A team and a couple of the B team members to do battle. Although I think we really just go down there to steal the brass and moonclips and to overfed Nelson's dog so it craps in his car.... Looking forward to seeing a group of true wheelgunners. michaels
  14. I think they're talkng about the competitors weight Uh Dave, I was in the slow/fat division, with misfires. But that's nothing new. michaels
  15. Yolo Sportsman will be hosting a new match at the end of March; this will be in addition to the annual match in August at Richmond. Check out the GSSF match schedule here: http://www.gssfonline.com/match-info.cfm
  16. What is the OAL if you measured it and what do they do at 50 yards? 1.24 oal, tight crimp, don't remember the 50 yard data other than they scored better than my 158's did at the range michaels
  17. stuck it in a glock and it cycles just fine, I need to find somebody with a glock and have them test fire it... hey Kevin, old buddy, Mr. Glockmiester that you are, let me see your new G34 for minute will ya? michaels
  18. you can use the bear creek lead round nose moly coated 170 grainers, loaded just a tad long with 3.9 grains of titegroup, anything more or less doesn't burn completly. The loaded moon should be top heavy, drop it and it always lands bullet first, like a dart. Use regular 38 spec cases, cut down to 9mm/38 short colt length, then you can use your regular 38 moons. Save all those split 38 cases and cut'em up. Bubber would approve... Pretty good accuracy out of a 6inch N frame, from a sandbag at 25 yards, they'll all stay in the x ring on an icore target. michaels
  19. anybody got a clue as to what make and model this guide rod is? thanks michaels
  20. Kevin, some of us shot it from way back where you had a full view of it, maybe 12 yards away...we didn't have all those extra rounds that you production guys have to throw around...:-) michaels
  21. Problem is Rachel is good, she's going to be very very good one of these days. TMC will need to invest in some more guns, except they won't be for him. The kid is young/fast and probably has 20/20 plus eyesight. The rest of of us have no chance against the younger generation in steel shooting. At least her dad's not getting any younger. Yeah, Todd could have taken her to the mall, but, no he brings her to the range...maybe if we teach her to spit and swear, we can get even.... michaels
  22. AW CRAP, now I have to put up with getting beat by a 13 year old, couldn't you get her intrested in skeet or trap, tell her that's where all the boys are.... michaels
  23. thank you all, that's what it looks like, I'll drop by my friendly gun emporium in the am and check out some 30 cal ammo to see if that's really it. thanks again michaels
  24. this mag was found on the range, lots of guesses, but so far nobody has pegged it, I figured if anybody could come up with what gun this is for, it would be the people on this forum. The mag is to long to make it into the mag well on a 1911 or a Ruger MK2, it will fit inside a glock g20, you could probably put 3 of them in there side by side. I tried a 38 super/9mm round in it, they won't go. Looks like maybe 32 cal would be the one. 22's want to double stack in it, plus they are about 3/8's of an inch too short. A 22 mag would be closer, but I don't have any of those to try, and they still would not be wide enough. any guesses? Michaels
