  1. Short Colts in the Comp 3's worked really well in my SSR in IDPA, maybe too well, now they are banned...once in awhile I'll use them in the Comp 3's in USPSA, but I hate trying to find all of that expensive brass when it's not in moons... michaels
  2. if you covered the full body of the speedloader, you wouldn't be able to get to the handle on top....like these after market holders out there or the ones made with PVC tubing, you still have the handle sticking out, just like the 333's....a lot of people take the comp 3 and cut the part that holds the bullets, dropping it even lower into the holder. Here with the 333's you've got a retention device built into the holder to start with. look at how far a mag sticks out of the fobus mag pouch and then see how much of the comp 3 sticks out of the 333 holder...just about the same. Once again the 6 shooters take it in the rear again. Where are my old rubber Safariland loaders when I need them.... michaels
  3. While back I saw a picture of B.Wilson shooting a revolver in an IDPA match, sure looked like a 333 on his belt.... michaels
  4. KKM barrel with ports in front of the slide, not in the cut out on the slide would kill the fibre optic after 3 shots, by #7 or #8 the fibre was history....both g34/35 had this problem. michaels
  5. I've got a bunch of the conversion units, including one for the 1911 from AA...really nice people to deal with and the product is great. I beat the living hell out of mine and they keep on working, they seem to have a Dillon type of warrenty also. I've cut down the recoil spring on one unit for the G17/22 and it lets me use about any bulk ammo. It's a captured guide rod, but with care you shorten the spring a touch. Polish the chamber with a 38 cal cleaning mop and some flitz like compond and extraction and feeding seems to improve to about 98% - remember with 22 ammo nothing is 100%...my stock ruger mk11 still runs at 98-99%... Mags are good for many thousands of rounds, the new mags come apart for cleaning, the older mags have less body, so they have less area contacting the grip area, so they will eject a little better than the new, but with brass mag pads glued on, who cares? Haven't had any holster issues like KevinC has, might have loosened up the screws on a holster for a little less tension. I've watched KevenC do a lot of range practice with his conversion unit and you can see the improvement in his shooting each week. I've only used the LE models, I like to replace the sights with the same ones that are on the stock slides, so I don't have to worry about different sight pictures, no problems there with the aluminum slide and installing sights that I've done. The large frame glocks have no muzzle jump with the 22 kits on them, I can see this being a steel challenge setup in the near future, great practice for the real thing. Still waiting for parts for a G27 to come in, once that gun is working, it came with an AA kit for the little guns, this should be interesting.... michaels
  6. Flex, it was the one with the picture of Paris Hilto at the start, down at the end where the barrels hid the targets is the spot that got a couple of folks, I know one of the dq'd shooters. He's a southpaw and saw the target over his right shoulder and broke 180 going for it. They had a small meeting about it and moved the target uprange but the dq still was in place. michaels
  7. On this 8" mod 25 Randy added an LPA. It turns out that on it a .250 front works - but barely. The rear is all the way down and it is just right. A load change and a .300 would probably be in order. That's a good looking gun! just a little off topic...with that longer barrel, did you have to bump up the load to make PF over the loads for 5" guns, I was thinking about the friction thing with the longer barrel...it's nice to see what the LPA's look like on a blued gun, all of mine are on Stainless guns, they look like they belong there...yours really stands out, I like it... michaels
  8. I like Mikes idea best. He will probably supply the ammo too. Now if we can get him to pay for our match I say let's all go to Richmond... rdd Roger, if you walked through our range gates, I'd gladly cover your range fees....of course I'd have to steal you comps threes when they hit the ground, but you'd still shoot for free...and don't forget, our club has a bar on the premises. mike
  9. Roger, how did you get the mud out of them after your last adventure? michaels
  10. The current rules are ambiguous when it comes to installing a barrel of a length that was never catalogued for that model. However, we all know that John's gun certainly should be legal, and my point is that our new division rules will eliminate any question. OK, so now we need to start a legal defense fund for JBag.... Since S&W puts together guns on a one order basis, John could have ordered his gun that way. I have a 627 that was ordered up through the PC and then stopped about half way through it's build. It was then finished and put on a prize table by S&W, the gun was then awarded to a shooter. It was not listed in any catalogue, but was not assembled by a lay person, its a factory gun, a one off gun, but still made by the factory. So I rule that jbags gun is legal, but Jbag himself may not be pending the bottle test.... michaels
  11. In time for the 2008 season? that would be so kewl Quit pressuring the artiste!! He will do no gun....before its time. no pressure, the last couple of guns have all been something a little different, not run of the mill for the master...I voted in favor of stem cell research, not for me, but should we be able to clone a person, my first vote goes for Randy. Imagine having about 5 of them turning out guns.... and Mike, I had dinner with Sam's football coach, he had a -lot- to say about Sam's dad.... mike sousa
  12. In time for the 2008 season? that would be so kewl michaels
  13. Wow...I'm being accused of making major PF....kinda neat for a change. Besides the gun, i doubt I'd last a season of nothing but 165pf... michaels
  14. yup, that's kinda my thought, makes a great backup gun for ESR should the main gun puke....looks cool, mine is one of the 340 units that is not black, but stainless. michaels
  15. Dave, Ive had one now for a little over a month, put about 400 rounds through it. Not a bad gun, it's a 2nd owner gun now, the first guy tried it with some Black Talons in it, he gave me the rest of the box of ammo. It was way to much for the guy and his hand. I've been playing with it using about 145-155 pf and it's a fun little gun for that. I just wanted it for a backup gun for IDPA should my 4" 625 crap out me at a match. I just switched out the TI cylinder for a stainless non flutted one and I will be shooting it a little this weekend with the remainder of my area 2 loads to get the brass back... I wasn't sure it I was going to like it, but it's really not a bad gun, easier than those j frame 357's out there. mike sousa
  16. and Travis won a holster for a gun he doesn't have, you know what that means.... lucky guy wins one in the drawing at tonights dinner... Chrono results are confusing, same batch of ammo that I shot at the Nats in Tulsa, 175-178pf, here I came in at 165.21, very strange, had two guys in the squad go minor, one on factory 40. One Glock has died 3 times now, it keeps getting repaired from spare guns... And I expect Flex to report on should you dump your mag or baby on the table...if anybody on his squad has the video of this, it's a must see. mike sousa
  17. using the 170 grain round nose moly leads from Bear Creek, pushed out by a federal small primer, igniting 3.6 grains of titegroup, down the barrel of my 627 5 inch, the chrono gave me enough for 134-139 power factor. Each moon extracted easily and I didn't see any bad signs on the cases. Each case is a cut down 38 special brass, these have been reloaded now 4 times and no signs of case cracking. They are the same size as a short colt from Starline. The Starline brass that I tried, cracked after the 2nd loading, nothing has been changed in the 650 setup between types of brass. michaels
  18. Mike, If I am not mistaken, we have made one of the stars (we call it a Whirly-Gig) with resetting plates. I am traveling but give me a call if you would like and we can talk about it. I'll PM you my cell number. TG Travis, the number fast rings then goes into somebody elses voicemail....will try later today and see what happens... mike
  19. I've been looking for the maker of the non moving death star...it looks like the texas star but it doesn't rotate. The plates are hinged and don't fall to the ground, they just flip down and you reset them by pulling them back up. Sorta like a plate rack in a circle. Been looking on line but no luck yet, thought maybe somebody out there would know the marker of this target. thanks mike sousa
  20. a small group of us from one club have been looking for a source of "shooting shirts" similar to the ones you see at national matchs, but alas, we have been unable to locate them. Anybody got a clue where to find them? michaels
  21. Hey, you won that IPSC match... Are you a better man already? Something about this just isn't right... Cliff not being here is like they gave a Coors Light Convention and he didn't show up.... just ain't gonna happen.... michaels
  22. So tell me more about making this jig.....I love to tinker. I bought the cutter at a place called Harbor Freight, a chain store for tools and such. Got the vise there too. Just wacked off the parts of the vise with a dremel that were keeping the vise from not snugging up to the mini chop saw. Got the collet from brownell's, one for 38 and one for 45. Just stick a full size case in the collet and move the vise to where it's the right distance from the mini saw and chop the little guys up. I fastened the vise and saw to the wooden table that I made and when ever I feel the urge to cut up brass, I just fire it up. I put a dremel with a stone wheel shapped like a cone next to me and when I got a couple of hundred brass cut, I just put the dremel on really low speed and insert the stone for about 1 second into the cutoff case, that takes care of any burrs on the inside of the case. I did skip that step for some and just tumbled then for awhile, did about the same, but I liked the look of the dremel edge better. Takes about 10 seconds to do a case on the mini chop and then another 5 seconds with the dremel. I made one mistake when I first started out. I used just 357 mag brass, as I figured being a low powered guy, I'd never use the brass. They cut really easy, but when loading them, I found out that mag brass is thicker than 38 special brass down around the base where I made my cut. I really had to flare the case to get the rounds in there. This also led me to having to put a rather heavy crimp, making the round look a little bottle nosed...they seem to have worked ok, but the 38 special brass doesn't need the same crimp. michaels
  23. not make this thread drift in another direction but IDPA won't let you shoot the the short colt or long colt unless your gun was made just for that round, it must say on it somewhere (from the factory) 38 short or long. Had a long discussion with Robt. Ray and the other guy about it and they came to the conculsion that it's to much of an advantage. I was stopped using them last year, had been loading them with a 95 grain 380 bullet. Really a dream to shoot. You really didn't need ear protection with it... Later this year we'll see what happens when I show up with a bunch of the cut down 357 mag brass that I did a couple of months ago. I was planning on saying that they're just 357's (see the headstamp) with really short bullets in them... michaels
