  1. I'm notorious for hittign the slide stop with my fat support hand. I replaced with the factory flush one. My buddy cut his off entirely with a dremel. no slide lock ever, just counts his rounds?
  2. IF you call ZEV they can might be able to tell you the pitch/size But, I went through the same song-and-dance after my philips head stripped and when I asked they offered to send me some hex head screws for free. That was 8 weeks ago so it's probably not gonna happen.
  3. So what barrel length do we need to make it work? The way i read the website is a g35 threaded barrel for a g22 slide, right? So what barrel is in knedrgr's super-boss looking ZEV g34/35? I'm having issues with prescription glasses and close front sights, this combo may be a solution.
  4. I've handled quite a few. they are well done if a little spendy. If you're not sure what dot you want, or you may swap dots, they are a good idea, if you KNOW you are going to use an RMR, leupold, whatever, send your slide off to L&M or another reputable company for a milling job that's an exact (and lower) fit. The 10mm MOS makes sense b/c that extra barrel lenght in a hunting gun will give better force delivery. but on the long 9mm and 40S&w guns i don't really get it. I have a g19 milled for an rmr and it's ideal. the red dot eliminates the need/benefit of the longer sight radius on the g17/34 etc. but if you'd prefer a factory mounting solution, they are legit.
  5. yup ok JK. I'm a high protein/fat guy. If you're on the road and cannot cook you can get fed pretty well at a mega gas station like a Wawa, sheetz, royal farms. Coffee (not massive but your typical caffeine load) egg/cheese/meat sandwiches (ditch the buns, wasted carbs) bags of sunflower or pumpkin seeds WATER WATER WATER
  6. did it arrive and was it good to go? All my dealings w/ evike have been good, and the one time i had to ca CS they were REALLY helpful, but it soulds like they have some jerks working there.
  7. gas is the way to go for sure. Some will say that co2 beats the gun up faster and is inconsistent. They'd be right, but c02 cartridges are readily available and cheap. Greengas is spendy, even if you get the propane adapter. I typically order from evike (pronounced e-vick) the prices are good and there is typically a coupon on retail-me-not to reduce their absurd shipping cost.
  8. good to know. I recently scores a gen4 magwell on the classfieds and I'm now collecting other goodie. Thanks for the input all.
  9. While we're at this, can the SJC mount work on gen 4 guns?
  10. so I'm building a open gun and I grabbed a g22 gen4 for real cheap. Buuuuuuuut. I'm now realizing that almost all aftermarket goodies are for gen 1-3. Magwells in particular are extra annoying as some work or don't based on the backstrap. I went for the gen4 b/c of the beavertail, but i'm starting to think i'd have been better off with a gen3 and a grip force. So should I unload this thing and go back a generation?
  11. my limited (puns!) experience would cause me to suggest you go with the g35 unless you already have a million rounds of 45acp sitting around. The g41 is really new, so the after market support (while robust) isn't quite where the g34/35 line is. If you're shooting USPSA limited you'll get way more ammo out of a full mag w/ the g35. I don't think the g41 will fit in your 9/40 holster, but some safarilands are more forgiving than others.
  12. SWEET!!! i hope you like. post range pics
  13. 1) how does the 6-second mount work for a competition gun? i dig it, but it seems like it's just a carver mount that's $100 more. 2) You could tune your mags or just live with downloading, that's what I was doing with my TTI extended mags on the g17. The admin load was done with a maxed out mag. everything else was loaded to 22.
  14. hey all, I sorta got this going in the open thread but I figured the glockiness aspect might get more traction over her. I'm building a .40 glock for OPEN fun times, Probably a g22 I'll be shooting FACTORY 40 ammo (I don't reload and it's not in the cards anytime soon) Here are some questions for those who have done/are doing it 1) Optic: I'd like a fixed optic that does not ride on the slide (I have a g19 w RMR, i love it, but i don't wanna chase a moving optic in competition) -Do people still use 30mm optics like comp m2s? -Is there a reason for a newer open shooter to go with a 30mm, aimpoint micro, jpoint, c-more etc? -Carver or SJC style? -Is getting the optic as low as possible that important? does a big enough "window" make up the height difference? 2) Barrel: -Should I use a comp or just a ported barrel? 3) Recoil spring -I'll be using factory ammo, any advice on what weight recoil spring to start with? 4) Mag plates: -I'll be using glock 22rd mags, which barely make 170mm, are there baseplates out there that can get me to 23rd? or that are just heavier for mag changes? Have mercy on an OPEN noob thanks!!!!
  15. thanks all. Local gun store has a NIB "used" g22 gen 4 for like $400. might need to make that happen...
  16. that's a good idea. I guess i could just drill/tap one. Maybe he's got a scratch-n-dent one laying around. Let's tack this one on while we're at it. G22 or G35 GO!
  17. hi everyone, I've done some digging and I'm coming up short. I've decided to build an open glock in .40 (because 9mm major just isn't in my near future.) I'm doing this on the cheap-ish to see if I enjoy open. I carry a glock 19 with a milled in RMR but I'd like a non-recipirocating red-dot on the race gun. Through work I have the opportunity to acquire Vortex brand optics for fairly reduced prices. The "Razor HD" is on my short-list but it appears to have a weird screw pattern (not Burris, docter, rmr, etc) so I don't know that a mount from any of the big manufactures will work. I'd like the SJC micro mount, but again, weird screw pattern. -Has anyone see this done successfully ( I know Jerry M uses one on a CORE) ? -If so can you point me toward the I was also thinking about going with their "SPARC," which is basically a Aimpoint Micro/trs-25 knock off. -Is the Micro tube useable in competition? -do you think the buttons hanging off the side will me too in-the-way? -I recall using 30mm aimpoints back in the day, but was that just because there was nothing better? thanks for helping a noob
  18. if i can fit it in a blazer pocket like a S&W bodyguard, I'd rather have 9mm than .380? It does seem like a answer looking for a problem, but people are really excited about it so Glock will make money. Now people will begin to again clamor for a full sized single stack 45acp glock.
  19. ZEV, Wilson, Stormlake, and KKM all claim "416R stainless steel" So I'm inclined to believe they are just blanks that get golfballed/coated.
  20. Mags for it are starting to appear for sale. http://www.calegalmags.com/Glock-43-9mm--10rd-Single-Stack-Magazine-_p_1221.html so it's pretty much happening. as to the why... .380 is pretty anemic and people LOVE the shield, so it'll sell like hotcakes.
  21. I'm a big proponent of the "krylon party." It's nearly instant and if you want to chage it later it'll only cost you $6 If you're on Lightfighter Pat Rogers has a great write up on painting rifles (he's an advocate of aerovoe rattle cans)
  22. Oh man thanks for the links. I was about to drop four times that much!
  23. If you don't have access to a ransom rest, you could try having each RSO put a mag through slow fire from the bench at 10m. If each group is dead center then it's the barrel not the shooters.
