  1. The ONLY way to move down in classification is to ask for it, (and you need a reason, like advancing age or injury that prevents you from shooting at your current classification.). The request usually needs to be supported by you local MD or section coordinator as well.
  2. Which powders are these Bill? I've heard the comment many times but no specific powder referenced. I ask with honest curiosity, because I know in theory 38 should be able to hold a larger charge of slower powder, but in practice I run into a lot of 38 guys running faster powders with heavier bullets than I do in my 9. I think it's still a throwback to the mentality from when the PF for Major was 175, and there were fewer powders available. Currently, I can name about half a dozen powders that will make major in a 9mm. If that's not enough choice, then you have other problems.
  3. Actually, the IPSC Modified guns tended to be CZ or 2011 guns that were run without a compensator, and were heavily "trimmed" in order to fit into a box. Like this:
  4. Until recently I was running 10.5 get of blue dot behind a Montana gold 115 jhp then I ran out if power so now I am running long shot at I think 9.7 grains at 170ish power factor. I need to bump that load up some as it is not working the comp as well.It does a pretty good job taming the recoil as it has less than my regular 9 mm minor in a G17 Careful with the Longshot. I've heard that beyond a certain point, you don't get any more performance, just lots of unburnt powder.
  5. No, actually you don't need adapters to run 9mm in STI and SV mags, you just need to load the rounds longer, (which most people do anyway.) The fact as to whether the 2011 was designed for .38 Super is immaterial.
  6. Hogwash! Its the Indian, not the arrow. I just watched K.C. Escubio kick everyone's butt at Area 5 with a 9mm Glock open gun.
  7. Ooops! (Can you be visually dyslexic?) Yeah. The one on the left, and they get worse going to the right.
  8. Same here. I run 9 major with 124gr MG CMJ's, 7.0gr of AutoComp, small rifle primers, 1.170 AOL, makes 173 PF. I run 9 minor, (at least lately), with 115gr plated bullets, using any powder I can find, small pistol primers, 1.170 OAL, and they tend to make about 135 PF. I never even have to change my recoil spring between major and minor. 9 major isn't that hard to reload. You simply have to start with a reduced charge and work your way up, looking for pressure signs. When the primers begin to flatten, you're going too hot. My major load doesn't even begin to flatten the primers. Here's a good example of what to look for, when looking for pressure signs. The primer on the right is normal, and they get progressively more flat as the pressue goes up. Personally, I wouldn't go beyond the way #2 looks.
  9. To make sure that our presses go BOOM when one gets mixed in with our LP .45 brass.
  10. Less than if you had the slide flat-topped or even tri-topped, and those are legal modifications.
  11. .38 Super is a rimmed case. .38 SuperComp is sem-rimmed, (rim only extends .beyond the case 0.003 - 0.004 per side, as opposed to 0.007 - 0.009 for the .38 Super.) Other than the case rim, they are identical. Just like the 9x21 and 9x23, it was an attempt at a .355 caliber round that fed better than the .38 Super, and still made major.
  12. Well, I was TRYING to be diplomatic about it, but I think .38S and .38SC are a dying breed as well. Most people I shoot with, (including me), are using 9 Major.
  13. Does the sight that is actually used during the match have to correspond with the amount of work done? For example if I milled, drilled, and tapped a 1911 for a Leupold Delta Point for plinking, but remove the the red dot sight for USPSA matches, (eg. fall back to the original notch and post), would the gun be considered legal for Single Stack? Or does the 6.2.5 kick in and it'll be at the discretion of the Range Master? D5 says: Milling of the slide to insert sights, add or remove serrations, such as cocking or flat topping, tri-topping the slide, lowering ejection ports, cuts that are minor and cosmetic in nature are permitted. Duplicating features that are on a factory, mass produced slide available to the general public is permitted. Cuts that are designed to specifically or significantly lighten the slide, such as holes, or slots, are ruled as competitive advantage and prohibited. I would think that the RM of the match would have final say, but I can't see that it would be prohibited, as long as iron sights are re-installed and used in competition.
  14. You DO realize that the C-More Slide Ride, (that we all use for frame-mounted setups), was originally designed to be mounted to the slide of a Glock, right? That's WHY it's called the "Slide Ride."
  15. 9mm Major is most popular, now. Let the pointless debate begin!! (Because you KNOW someone is going to say that .38S is more popular.)
  16. Nowadays, the most popular calibers in Open would probably be, (in no particular order), .38 Super, .38 SuperComp, and 9mm Major. The 9x21, 9x23, etc. were attempts to make a rimless round in .355 caliber, (as opposed to the rimmed and semi-rimmed .38S and .38SC.) Since USPSA lowered the power factor from 175 to 165, and now that powder formulations have improved, you can make major with a standard 9x19 fairly easily, so the wildcat rounds are no longer popular. 9mm brass is cheap and plentiful, and even .38S or .38SC is easier to find that the oddball 9x21 and 9x23, so why would you want to run those?
  17. Removing mass from the slide makes the slide cycle faster, hence a competitive advantage. A few screw holes in the frame might make the gun lighter, but that's not a competitive advantage Let's face it, people will mill out the back side of their grips to shave some weight and be legal in Single Stack. Nobody ever says it's cheating.
  18. Trust me. 5.2.7.2 applies to everyone. I'm 99.9% sure on this. It always goes like this: General rule applies unless overridden by a specific rule, such as the height of the holster for Single Stack, (front strap above belt instead of the backstrap, unless you're a lady.) If you really want to, you can email John Amidon and ask him. director@nroi.org
  19. Appendix D only describes how far forward or rearward on the belt you may have items. (Hence the "behind the hip bone" limit in Production and Single Stack.) 5.2.7.2 applies to EVERYONE! Trust me, I have seen Ray Hirst call out people for this. Ray is an NROI instructor. I think he knows what he's talking about.
  20. I think you're right JAFO. IIRC, the Sig P250 came with a full size and compact frame, and a full size and compact slide/barrel of ONE caliber. It was available in 4 calibers though, (9mm, .357 Sig, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP). It WAS designed to be able to change calibers though. Since the PGL DOES list all of the possible combinations of frame/slide for each caliber, for this specific gun changing caliber by getting a different top end should be legal, since that's the way the manufacturer designed it, (regardless of which caliber you originally bought it in.)
  21. I think all of the variations are listed in the PGL, so it shouldn't matter in this case. The manufacturer made it that way, as opposed to someone building a "Frankengun."
  22. The "firearm" according the the ATF is the frame. If the gun us not on the PGL, you can't "recreate" one by swapping parts to make it "similar" to a gun that is on the PGL. A Glock 35 with a 9mm upper is STILL a Glock 35, and as Cy pointed out, Glock never made a 9mm G35.
  23. Even if you never take the test and get certified, I feel taking the RO class is beneficial to everyone. You learn a lot about the rules that will help make you a better shooter. Knowing the rules is important! How else would you know if you got unfairly penalized by an RO unless you know what he's SUPPOSED to know?
  24. almost, if you declare minor then you can load 9 in the 40 mags if you declare major and load 9 then I believe you go to open not a bump to minor. Correct. Only 8 rnds allowed if you declare major. Violations moves you to Open.
