  1. 0.355" - 0.360" I've been using Grams springs and followers in my 9mm Major, and I've never had any problems with feeding. The tube is the same as 38sc, so... It really just looks like your feed lips have opened up on the two mags on the right.
  2. I've seen people cited for this and forced to adjust their holster. It's kinda like the 2" rule. They may never check it, but when they do, you have to fix it.
  3. Do your fellow shooters at local matches usually steal your magazines when you turn your back? (Practical joke type stuff aside.) I'm assuming that if you have to unholster and set your gear aside to go to the restroom that it's usually still there when you come back, right? The question here is, what is so onerous about a local rule that says, "no ammo in the safe area?" Does it affect the actual shooting portion of the competition? No. Is it less safe than the USPSA's rule? No. Can you actually DQ anyone from a match for breaking the local rule? No.
  4. Hodgdon shows a max load of: 5.1 gr with a 125 gr Sierra FMJ. COL= 1.090" Velocity=1,118 fps, Pressure=33,000 That would give you a PF of around 139. You could probably up the charge a couple of tenths and still be ok as far as pressure, and you MIGHT get up to a 150 PF.
  5. Actually, I think MOST Sheriffs are elected, not appointed, and that is a good thing. I think having an appointed leader, (appointed by who?), lessens accountability to the members. The way it currently is, EVERYONE on the BOD is accountable to the members. Look at it this way, would you like to only elect your representatives and senators, (your area directors, ie, the BOD), and allow THEM to select the U.S. President?
  6. EXACTLY!! Is it REALLY going to kill anyone to remove their mags before going to the safe area, if that's what the local club prefers? You can't handle them when you're in the safe area anyway, so why even bring them with you? It's not like we're talking about making things LESS safe! No, you can't be DQ'd for it, but if you keep pissing off the range owner by ignoring their rules, then they have every right to kick you out. Most of these are PRIVATE clubs, and without them, the USPSA would not exist, because people would have no place to shoot.
  7. The power factor is also lower for them. Easier to use those kind of bullets when you don't have to push them as fast.
  8. At this point, everything that is in-stock is going to be expensive. You can try some of the better plated bullets like Rainier or Frontier. They might be SLIGHTLY cheaper, (not by much though.) But you end up using more powder, and powder is even HARDER to find in-stock than bullets right now!
  9. I LOVE how some people are assuming that if you break the local rule, (no ammo in safe area, or whatever), that you're going to get DQ'd. Obviously you can't be "DQ'd" unless it is against the USPSA rules, but that does not stop the hosting club from asking you to leave and not come back, as is their RIGHT! I really don't see much of an issue in asking competitors to not have ammo in the safe area. How do you give notice to everyone? You put up a sign that says "NO AMMO IN SAFE AREA!"
  10. Nothing wrong with being overly cautious. Their club, their rules, even if they are stricter than USPSA's rules.
  11. No, the advantage of 9mm is that 9mm brass is more common, period! Go to a major event, and you are going to lose ALL of your brass, because they don't ALLOW you to pick it up. I'd much rather lose 300+ 9mm brass that I can easily replace than 300+ 38S or 38SC, which I'm probably going to have to BUY NEW to replace.
  12. I asked Troy McManus this question during our recent CRO class, and his take was that each string was a new COF, (because there is a separate "Stand By" and start signal on each string.) So, absent a comment from Amidon...
  13. Out of all the open shooters at A5, these are the one's that I know for certain or am reasonably sure about. Most of the people who I KNOW are running 9 Major are people I know and shoot with regularly. 1 KC Eusebio GM 9 Major 2, Shane Coley U 38S 5 Sherwyn Greenfield M 9 Major? 6 Darren Mulford M 9 Major 7 Nick Greenfield M 9 Major? 14 Mike Bellafiore II A 9 Major 20 Jeff Matsche M 9 Major 21 J Griffin A 9 Major 31 Christine A Guinn B 9 Major <--- Me. 34 David Overland C 9 Major 40 Monica Taliani C 9 Major? 41 Brian Hays B 9 Major 48 Marty Geringer A 38S 50 Chris Thomas A 9 Major 52 Christine Webster C 9 Major 55 Joel Parks C 9 Minor
  14. The way reloading supplies are right now, that is a SIGNIFICANT disadvantage. BTW - KC Escubio just won Open at A5 with a 9mm Glock. 2nd place was Shane Coley, and I think he was running .38S, so... As usual, it's the indian, not the arrow. If you're a good shooter, it doesn't matter what you shoot.
  15. Dirty gun - Nope. I removed the slide and wiped-down and re-oiled the rails and bore-snaked the barrel at the hotel Sat. night. Jam was on the 4th stage I shot Sunday. Head Stamp - All the brass has been once-fired Remington that I bought on-line. I bough 5,000 last fall, and have been using it ever since. The jams have only started recently, (in the past 5-6 months), and so far it's happened 3 times. I also never had this problem before when I was using random headstamp brass. The gun generally eats everything I feed it. I also am using a #9 spring when shooting steel, and the PF is about 145. Shot the entire steel pro-am at ARPC and not a hiccup. Frankly, I'm at a loss to explain it. The only other commonality in all of this is that it seems to only happen near the end of my big-stick. I also just replaced all of the springs in my mags just before A5, so again, I'm stumped. Surely a mag issue would cause feeding problems, but not ejection issues, right?
  16. Darren, the strange thing is that it only happens once every 1,000 - 1,500 rounds. Generally speaking, the gun you built has been rock-solid. The current extractor still has a LOT of bend in it! I have to push HARD on the tip to force it back into the tunnel and remove it from the slide.
  17. My gun is set up with modified Grams followers and the slide lock is also modified to prevent locking open. I'm also not using any shock-buff, (although I have in the past.) I guess the cheapest fix to try would be less spring. Maybe an #8.
  18. Well, I just shot A5, which was 300+ rounds, and I had this happen once during the match. (Of course, in a major match, once is too many.) I've had it happen maybe twice more in the past 6 months, with thousands of rounds down range during that time period. I don't have an Aftec, but the extraction has always been good with the standard extractor. I stripped the slide and cleaned the extractor and firing pin within the last month or two specifically because I was worried that might be the problem. I'm almost inclined to believe Aircooled's theory of case resizing more than anything else. The occurence of the problem is just so random that I think an extractor problem would be more pronounced and frequent. I'm reloading with a Lee Loadmaster and using a Lee FCD, but maybe I should get an undersize sizing die, just to be safe.
  19. I'm having a strange ejection problem pop up every so often, (not constant, but enough to be annoying.) I'm running a 9mm Open with a Cheely 90 degree mount, and every so often I get a fired case that does not eject properly. The case gets hung up LENGTHWISE in the ejection port, (as opposed to a stovepipe.) I'm running a #9 spring currently, and my PF is around 173. Would going to a #8 spring give the slide more "open time" to allow the round to clear the ejection port before closing, or do you suspect another problem, such as the extractor or ejector? I personally don't suspect the ejector or extractor, since the gun runs fine 99+% of the time.
  20. I didn't realize that your crotch was on the side of your body.
  21. If you're shooting Open, only your big-stick needs to be gauged. (A 140mm mag is definitely less than the 170mm Open limit. No need to check them.) Every time they gauged mine, it was done with a full mag, and still passed. If it didn't pass when loaded, you could unload it and make them check it again, since the rules do not say the mag has to be loaded or unloaded.
  22. ...specifically designed for ..... So the $40 Magnet mag holder from DAA is legal, but the same magnet from US magnetics at half the price isn't legal. I don't recall anywhere in the rules that states you must use a COMERCIALLY AVALABLE product, as long as it meets the rest of the equipment guidelines for your division. I know people who have made and used their own Kydex holsters and mag pouches.
  23. Every state/section level II match I've ever been to has required chrono. It's not required per the rules, but just about every match outside of a level I club match does it.
  24. For starters, it's a T1 or T2 comp, not S1 or S2. For 9 Major, the T2 is better because it's longer and has more ports. Just look as what STI does with the Steelmaster and Matchmaster. The Steelmaster is designed to run minor 9mm for steel, and it has a T1 comp. The Matchmaster is available in 9mm or .38 Super, but both come with the T2 comp.
