  1. Tube going into a 1 lb powder bottle. Just barely sits on the floor as the press is cycled and once a few hundred spent primers are in there it keeps the tubing straight and haven't had any primers clog up the tube since taking this measure. Did have it dumping into a large plastic trash can but the tubing would get clogged every once in a while.
  2. Don't have much experience with Glocks but one of my shooting buddies always shoots Tula, Brown Bear, whatever is cheapest for Steel Challenge in his Glock. Never seems to give him any trouble and he's been doing it for as long as I have known him.
  3. Prizes would be great but I'm just glad we have local matches often enough to stay in practice. In my area Limited is covered up and I am happy to finish in the middle of the pack. A good day with like minded people and running 150 or so rds through a gun is prize enough for me.
  4. Load those mags to max capacity and let them sit a while; they will ease up pretty quickly. At first it was hard to load mine even with an UpLULA. After shooting a good bit and leaving the mags loaded between range trips I can now load them by hand easily. UpLULA is still the first choice though.
  5. The Powder River extended mag release I have is not legal in USPSA Production or in ESP IDPA. It's pretty easy to swap the OEM release to comply with whatever game I'm shooting though.
  6. Go for it. I shoot a XDM40 in Limited (USPSA) and ESP (IDPA). For limited I use .40's loaded to 170 PF and then download to around 145 PF for IDPA. That IDPA rd is sweet with a 16 lb recoil spring. Just have to be careful about mods since some that are OK for Limited are not OK for ESP. A quick look at both rule books will keep you safe. Think with a little time you will come to love the XD.
  7. No stupid questions; just answers. I don't crimp .223 bullets. OAL of 2.230 usually has the cannelure seated just inside the case with most 55 gr bullets. Runs great in my S&W MP15.
  8. My XDM works in the Bladetech for the XD Tactical. Guessing if the holster is designed for the M then the holster might be .5" too short for the XD40 tactical. Still should work-just a little barrel hanging out shouldn't matter.
  9. Cuzinvinny, Did you ever try the WSF with the 135 gr Bayou Bullets? I'm working on that load and wondered what results you might have gotten.
  10. I'm using a BladeTech made for the 5" XD tactical with my XDM40 (4.5") and it's working well for IDPA ESP and USPSA Limited.
  11. Just ran the 1st 500 Bayou Bullets through my XDM40 and absolutely love the bulets. Very little smoke with W231 and will switch to WST for the next batch to see if it gets better. Accuracy was amazing; made me look like a shooter. Donnnie has a good product and great customer service. You can't go wrong here.
  12. I too think CR is overkill for production. Kytex Gear makes a pouch that is a clone of the Ready Tactical and much like the ones in the Kitchen Kydex thread in the Gear Forum. I like them well enough that when moving from Production to Limited I continue to use them. If you are like most of us you will have a drawer or shelf full of mag pouches before you find the one that you like the best. Good luck.
  13. I've tried the XD9 tactical and the XD9sc in IDPA. Either works equally well with good sights. 9sc has TFO's and when shooting the monthly indoor matches seems to work better than the tactical with DP fiber optic front sight. The 4" service would work well but us older guys have to find sights we can live with in order for any gun to run well in competition. Good luck in deciding what is right for you.
  14. I'll check with Tactical Solutions. Actually this holster is for a friend; he's driving me crazy to help him find one. I have an Uncle Mikes that I unstitched, cut down for the c-more, and had a shoe repair shop re-stitch and I am good to go. Contacted Ron Garrett at www.gimagclip.com/ and think he is willing to custom make one. Gonna make my friend do the rest of the leg work but will report back here on the progress.
  15. Anyone ever get one of these holsters? Talked to the guy at Power Custom and he didn't recommend it for a Browning Contour with a C-More railway. Still searching for a Kydex holster for the Contour.
  16. Had a local smith install the Dawson FO front and worked well. After shooting several USPSA and IDPA matches with it I was quite happy with the green front sight. In a moment of weakness last week I bought a XDM40 with PRP combat trigger and bunch of extra stuff (like a 9mm conversion barrel). This weekend I let a female friend shoot the tactical in a local IDPA match. She liked the gun so much she didn't want to give it back, I gave her a price, and walked away without a gun but a check to almost cover the cost of the new pistol. The new pistol has Dawson adjustable night sights and if they don't work for my old eyes I have all these suggestions to fall back on for future reference.
  17. Thanks for the clarification Justsomeguy. I completely missed the part about CA in the OP.
  18. AS G-ManBart stated PD has had shipping delays lately but I ordered 180 gr .40's on Friday and they were in stock at that time. First time reloading for .40's so hope they work as well as their 124 gr JHP's.
  19. Currently running Wolf 16# in my XD9 tactical. Works well with 124 and 147 gr loads. Trigger pull on my stock gun is right at 5 lbs after approximately 2500 rds. Pre-travel and over travel are more of an issue in shooting fast than trigger pull. Either Springer or PRP kit going in next to correct length of pull and reset. Tons of info on XD's at XDTalk.
  20. I have 3 different XD's: XD9sc, 9 tactical, and .45 compact. All shoot well with a 6 o'clock hold out to 35 yds; longest target on our Steel Challenge course.
  21. Thanks for the replies; 2-1 in favor. Ordered one and got it in today. Pretty nice, holds gun securely, tek lok works well, and draw is pretty smooth. Gonna shoot a Steel Challenge this weekend and will use the XD to check out the holster. Not sure how much better Kydex would be but just might get one for my 1911 to compare. Holsters must be like ammo; can't have too many. I may have to have a garage sale just to get rid of some I don't use anymore.
  22. PF of 216 with a 230 gr bullet. Pretty hot at least to me.
  23. Trigger jobs by gunsmiths run in the $150 range. Seems the folks on this forum prefer Springer and Canyon Creek and I am sure you would love either one. On XDTalk the preferred trigger is the Powder River Precision Match Kit. Runs about $90 and can be installed by yourself with some minor fitting (if you are careful). That's almost equal to the cost of shipping to and from one of the forementioned smiths. After shooting three USPSA and a couple of IDPA's think it is time to consider one of these options myself.
  24. I had the same question as the OP. Just started shooting USPSA and going to my first IDPA match on Monday. Was thinking about using my 1911 for the IDPA but after reading this thread might just stick to the XD9 tactical since that is what I shoot the most and in USPSA. I'm another old guy new to the competition format so it might not matter a lot; it's all for fun and trigger time. Good thread.
  25. Saw this holster last night while looking for a regular Bladetech for my XD9 tac. Anyone know anything about this holster. About 1/2 the price of the regular Bladetech and for that price I could get two; one for USPSA that would stay mounted on the CR belt and one for IDPA. Just started shooting competition and currently using a Serpa that I've had for a long time-works well with any of my three XD's. I like the way it works and draws OK but just don't need the retention. Any advice from the long time shooters would be appreciated.
