  1. G22; I live in the Longview area (White Oak) and have a XD9 tactical that you and your wife are welcome to shoot. if you're interested just shoot me a PM and we can get together out at the range.
  2. I agree with Dave in Idaho; 5.1 should work fine and you have started way too low. I run 5.0 gr of W231 (same as HP38) and gives low recoil and cycles my XD45c well. Only problem is that it doesn't make major; only averages 154 or so PF. Lots of room to tinker with the load. Good luck in developing your ideal load.
  3. Just moved up from an iron sighted Buckmark to my USPSA gun for Steel Challenge. Shot Precision Delta 124 gr JHP with 4.0 gr TG. Worked great. Used 147 gr Missouri Bullets for the last USPSA. Couldn't tell much difference with the XD0 tactial. Do know that the 124 gr JHP works well for poppers and plates though.
  4. I could be way off base but I think the 10 rd mags will only work with the XD45 compact. The shorter grip allows the use of 10rd mags and the 13 rd mags need the sleeve. If I am giving bad advice I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly.
  5. I would guess too tight a crimp as well. I shoot Missouri Bullets 147 gr lead in my XD9 tactical and have had no issues with tumbling using 3 gr TiteGroup and a light crimp. I clean the barrel after every trip to the range to insure no lead buildup.
  6. I'd say go for it. I've seen standard size (4") for XD's cut down for sub compacts. Take your time and smooth up the edges with an emery board or fine grit sandpaper and you will be in business.
  7. No problem with either Dawson or TruGlo TFO's so far. Like the OP I have heard and read of some fiber optics falling out (TFO's in particular) so covered the front sight with clear fingernail polish. Hasn't fallen off the XD9sc yet. Got the Dawson on an XD9 tactical and once I changed it from red to green it too is GTG.
  8. Just wanted to add that my Powder Funnels PTX came in today. Installed and with a little tinkering got it to working right. Now the 3rd station (Lee expanding die) will turn into a powder check station for the time being. Think I am through adding stuff until I bite the bullet and add the case feeder.
  9. Thanks for the tip Millisec. I had a sample of the S&W lube from the NRA banquet that I had never used. Checked the ingredients and then hurried to Wally World. Got a can of the Liquid Wrench dry lube. Soon as I get through with the last of the 9 mm's I'm gonna try it out on the new LNL.
  10. May be a while 'fore I get the case feeder. Tight as I am with a buck it was a fight to turn loose the money for the LNL. Probably what pushed me over the edge was Graff's putting it on sale for Memorial Day for $375. Tough part was that the 550 was the same price. The AP part was what sold me. Bet it won't be too long before I convince myself I really NEED the case feeder.
  11. After reading everything I could find on the Hornady Lock n Load AP on this forum; I finally took the plunge and bought one. I had been reloading on a Lee Classic Turret for a couple of years and it served it's purpose quite well. I am retired and have a LOT of available time for reloading (and shooting) so never felt the need to upgrade. When I went to 147 gr lead bullets for my XD9 tactical the Lee wouldn't work too well on loads below 3 grs of Titegroup so I decided to with the LNL AP. Absolutely love this thing. There has been a little learning curve with 5 stations working at one time versus the old Lee with one thing happening at a time. I've been going slow and only getting a round without a primer every once in a while. Powder measure is just as accurate as I had read it was and rigged a powder check in the Lee flaring die that works really well. Once I get through with all the 9mm's I guess it's time to set up the .45 ACP and start cranking them out as well. Even though my friends who use Dillons think I am totally insane, I am convinced I made the right choice. I appreciate all the good info I found on this site that helped in my decision.
  12. While the American Rifleman review was good (ever see a magazine review that wasn't?) I have seen several threads on other forums expressing a great dislike for them. Lots of issues with feeding. Like most new gun maybe once the bugs are worked out it will be worth a try.
  13. Might be easier if you don't completely remove the grip. You only need to back off the bolt about 1/4". Once you pull the grip down enough that you have the detent spring clearly visible you should be able to remove the safety. Kinda makes sure you don't have a spring flying around the room and that you get the detent back in the proper orientation. Just a little easier at least to me.
  14. Graham, maybe my choice of words was misleading. "Well below 3 gr" is just a little misleading. I went and set up some Titegroup this morning and could consistantly throw 2.8 gr. Maybe that's not too far below 3 gr but my particular charge bar will get under 3 grs although I am pretty sure I will not be loading in that range at all. Thanks for making me go check and make sure I didn't post bad info.
  15. I replaced the disks with the adjustable charge bar and it will go well below 3 gr with Titegroup. I agree with an above statement that Lee's numbers are a little off of the charges thrown by the disks. I tend to have to adjust a little higher with the charge bar but once it's set you are good to go. Might want to try it out.
  16. Don't have a picture and haven't seen one of these bullets yet. Precision Delta has some kind of machine problem and couldn't fill my order for 124 gr FMJ so they asked if they could substitute 124 gr JHP for the same price. Should have them by Tuesday and maybe I can get a picture up for you.
  17. 4.6 W231 with 115 gr FMJ Precision Delta and OAL of 1.135 works well in either my XD9sc or the XD9 tactical.
  18. Call me crazy (or at least ignorant or uninformed) but I have no problem with the XD trigger. I have an XD9sc and XD45c and after 400-500 rds the triggers became bearable and a few hundred more I grew to like them. Kinda why I got the tactical; don't have to get used to another platform. As I get into competition I realize I will probably want to have some trigger work done but for right now I'm gonna run it like it is (once the new sights are on it). 2 votes so far for Canyon Creek trigger jobs. Wonder when someone will say go with Springer? Bet I get lots more advice now that triggers have been brought up and I appreciate all that's offered. Thanks guys.
  19. Thanks Hueycrew. Found that on Pistol Gear's site last night. Good to know that the Warren is low profile and think I am going with that set up. Shot a steel challenge today with a Buckmark with a red fiber optic front site. Did pretty well but after the shoot was over went back out and shot a stage with my other Buckmark with a green fiber optic; picked up that sight much better. Maybe it was because it was overcast; just don't know. Guess I will give the red front a shot and if it doesn't work I can try the Hi Viz that Pistol Gear offers to go with the Warren Tactical rear. Thanks for all the pointers.
  20. Buckaroo I know what you mean; ANYTHING beats the white dots for older eyes. Hueycrew, thanks for that suggestion. I was leaning toward the red fiber optic Dawson front but wasn't sure about the rear. The Warren Tactical looks like a good option. Red against the black background ought to work for me. Guess my next question is why the Warren rear sight and not a black Dawson rear? Notch width? What makes it better?
  21. Should have added I have TFO's on other XD's and like them pretty well. Hoping someone would chime in with info on other fiber optic sights; like Dawson.
  22. Noob here with a brand new XD9 Tactical. Right off the bat I have a question about the sights. My 61 year old eyes don't pick up the white dots too well so I'm thinking about fiber optic sights (at least for the front). Wondering what sights you XD shooters like best. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Pops
  23. I'll be shooting at the East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club in Longview. The Tyler groups are moving to our range and have already had one USPSA match. I took the training class but only went and watched on match day. Just got my XD9 tactical in today and hope to be ready the 1st Sunday of May to give it a try. IDPA is the 2nd Saturday but think I will pass on that one for now. One steel challenge and one USPSA per month will keep me pretty busy practicing and getting enough ammo loaded. Thanks for the Welcomes.
  24. Just signed up after lurking for a couple of weeks. I am in the East Texas area, 60 years old, retired, and pretty sure I will shoot my 1st USPSA match in a couple of weeks. Gonna try Production with an XD9 tactical. I reload for 9mm, .45, and .223 and own a "bunch" of pistols, rifles, and shotguns. The only thing I like almost as much as time at the range is taking long rides on the motorcycle. I probably won't have much to offer since I am new at competitive shooting but sure think I can learn a lot; oh, maybe I WILL have some typical NOOB questions.
