Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Just shot it for the the first time: 152.87 in CDP.
  2. Keep the long range (100-200yds) rifle stages a-coming. Its been alot of fun using our rifles at the distances they were meant for. Another run and hose rifle stage like at the last one would be fun also. The combo stages although fun might be a bit too complicated for this scorcher of a match coming up so maybe KISS is the order of the day. Just my $.02. Thanks, Jim

  4. I've been using a leupold Vari-X 2 for years on my 270 without any problems and it's the old style that doesn't have the "click" adjustments for windage and elevation, it has the friction adjustments. I'm getting ready to purchase a scope for my AR and was planning on the VX-2 1-4X. I've found a used one with the friction adjustments but was wondering if the hammering action of a semi-auto would cause the zero to drift. Any experiences? Just as a point of reference, I'm told that the new VX-II's have click adjustments like the VX-III's have always had. Thanks, Jim
  5. I used to always dump it into the front pocket of mt RR5.11's but lately I've been playing with sticking it back in the pouch. Came in very handy Sunday where we had a stage where we were required to re-use our retained mag at the end.
  6. Our match designers have been notorious for making stages 8-round friendly. Which used to irk the heck out of me when I was shooting an Officers model that only held 7 rounds. I've done plenty of mandatory reloads with 6 rounds in the mag.
  7. Good info, thanks all. Yeah I learned my lesson about triple K's with the mini. Those don't seem to have any heat treating in them at all. The mag lips are a mess after dropping them a few times.
  8. Having just left the mini-14 crowd and dealing with the limited number of reliable magazine makes for said mini, I am now overwhelmed when it comes to selecting good ar-15 mags. Ideally, I'd like to pick up a couple of 30's for the run and gun stuff and some 20's for going prone. For the 30's everyone seems to swear by the green followers. In reality, are they that much more reliable? Are the $9.95 (or $14.95) Orlites worth buying? The 20 rounders really seem bewildering since so many of those were made even before I was born. Are there any to avoid? Thermolds were the most reliable in the mini so I assume the same holds true in AR's. Opinions????
  9. I guess I'm kind of spoiled. Its 15 mins to the range where I shoot 3-gun matches and about 20 to where I shoot Wednesday night IDPA. Of course to shoot a big match like SMM 3-gun is 2 hours away and when I lived in N. Kal, the nearest IPSC range was close to an hour away. Now it probably doesn't even exist. We do have a die-hard who drives over an hour just for wednesday night Idpa, now thats dedication!

  11. Our club has backup division at our matches. But the rules are bent a bit from the IDPA intent. From what I gather, IDPA places a 5 round limit on a BU division handgun. We have one guy who shoots a makarov (7 or 8 rounds) and another who shoots a p239 occasionally. I'd rather the 5 round limit be enforced since then the 2" 5 shot snubbies could be more competitive.
  12. My Buddy's girlfriend shoots one in 3-gun. Her main gripe is that the accessories are harder to find and the ammo can tend to be a little harder to find (cheap) especially slugs. Powerwise, she usually has to shoot high-base 6's where the rest of us are shooting low base 7.5's and 8's in our 12s. Other than that, she rocks with that little 20.
  13. I think the fact that my revolver forces me to focus on my trigger technique and slow down actually helps my technique with my 1911's.
  14. " I can't figure it out, I cut the darn thing twice and its still too short!"
  15. I use Case Slick by RCBS, its the stuff that comes in the pump bottle rather than the aerosol. For rifle rounds, I generally leave it on. For pistol, i rarely use anything on my carbide dies.
