Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. I have a 1200B trimmer. I just ordered a lot of 500 6mm Rem of new brass that I need to trim to square to length. I'm really shooting the 6mm Ackley Improved but I can fire form for the finished case. Is there any source for: 1st choice 6mm Ackley Improved ?? 2nd choice 6mm Remintion ?? Also needed 300 Win Mag..... Steve
  2. Here is one place I have heard good things about. http://www.pinnacle-guns.com/revolver.asp I'd send it to Frank Glenn http://www.glenncustom.com/. Frank has been a gunsmith to Grand Masters for many years and you will get you gun back sooner than most.
  3. RIOs are no bargin. They price them at whatever Estates are priced. RIO said the sell some in the east but not many in the rest of the country...................
  4. I checked out Rio's web page and I see they have a distributor in TX (who was out of town). Where can you get a good deal on RIOs? Rio was new to me but the web site was very interesting.
  5. Here are some gun tips for trap, skeet and clays If you reload then a break action gun is great. If you are worried about not having the softer recoil of a semi-auto then find and shoot some Lite 12ga 1oz 8 1/2 loads. The bottom line is a 1 1/8 8 load has 450 pellets and a 1oz 8 1/2 load has 480 pellets. There is no apparent difference in pellet energy and you will get 7% more shot in your pattern with 11% less recoil. I've been shooting that load for trap, skeet and 'club' clays since the early 80's when I was a AA trap shooter. I made a mistake at a big shoot and shot the 1oz 8 1/2 loads from the 22yrd line and broke a 98. I thought I was shooting my 1 1/8 handicap loads and when I finished the round I discovered my 'mistake'. After that I shot the 1oz 8 1/2 loads for everything except for long range clays - where faster 1 1/8 of 8 Sporting Clays loads at about 1,350fps lessened lead errors with a little more breaking energy at the longer ranges. While many trap and skeet ranges allow you to leave your empties on the ground, clays courses usually require that you clean up your hulls. Another case for a break action gun. The stock dimensions for a field, skeet or sporting clays gun are the same. That allows shooting at higher angles than a trap dimensioned stock which would lift your head and change your point of impact. A trap stock has a higher comb and is somewhat parallel to the rib. This favors a trap gun to shoot a little higher for rising targets and minimizes the stock impacting your face and cheek bone. The accepted good working barrel length for skeet and clays is 30" with a break action and 28" to 30" for a semi-auto or pump gun. Semi-auto and pump guns barrels are farther forward than a break action. Therefore a front bead on a 30” break action is about equal to a 28” barrel on a semi-auto or a pump gun. It you like to shotguns that ‘look over the barrel’ the same then think of the overall length of your guns not just the barrel length. Other than a trap stock’s comb height about a 30” barrel with screw in cokes, one gun will serve you well for all three clay sports and hunting. The comb height can be changed as needed with an adjustable comb or one stock for trap and another one for field, skeet and clays. Keep your head down and focus on the target ;-})
  6. As everybody knows the cost of shot has skyrocked in recent times. I've reloaded for many years but there dosen't seem to be as much to save as in the past. My question is about Estate target loads. I know they are owned by Federal but don't use the same components. I haven't been able to find and published reviews so these are my questions for anyone who has personally tested on a pateren board etc. How well to the Estate 12ga target loads pattern on a patterern board ? How clean do they burn ? Are the powder and primers damaging to the bore ? Are they as good as AA or STS loads. Also, I have always liked paper hulls. Does anyone know where to get great price for Federal paper hull loads? BTW Here are some very good prices for 12ga target loads and components: http://www.larryssg.com/larrys%20ammo%20page.html
  7. I found an ultrsonic cleaer with a 4” deep 1.5 qt model at Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=91957 on sale for $159. Does anyone know about this unit? The price is less than half of the L&R unit but it doesn't include the cleaners and lubricant at that price.
  8. Mark. Being dyslexic might be an advantage There is a little post underneath the area of the crimp die location with a grooved end. First connect the spring to the indexer and them pull it round and over the grove in the post with a pair of needle nose pliers. The most common cause of breaking the indexer is a round that doesn’t eject cleanly and binds putting an overload on the indexer. The bent wire message just before your message explains how to fix that problem. Dillon now offers their own version of new configuration for free but I think you will find the one I show is more reliable. Steve
  9. I just found the USPSA rifle power factors and they are: MINOR 150 MAJOR 320
  10. What are the offical USPSA rifle power factors for minor and major??
  11. OAL is a feeding funtion not a bullet weight issue. Once you settle on a OAL that feeds great then stick with that OAL and load for the power factor to want. If, say, you change from 115gr to 147gr and keep your OAL the same, Your usable case volume for powder will be a little reduced. That isn't a problem once you find the best powder charge. Also, the further you seat out your bullets the more powder it takes to get the same velocity than with a shorter OAL. Addtionally, if you load for more than one gun of the same caliber, pick a single OAL that feeds is all of those guns. If you don't you will mix your ammo in no-time. Keep in mind that factory and custom made pistols are designed to shoot factory mad ammo. So............ if your OAL is the same as Winchecter White Box ammo you proably have the correct OAL for reliable feeding. TIP: use different bullet styles for diiferent bullet weights and power factors. Such as maybe round nose for 115gr, blunt nose for 125gr and hollow point for 147 gr. Also, for power factor identification I use nickel brass for 9mm major and plain brass for minor loads.
  12. I understand that all the newer STI and SVI super barrels are for 3.55 9mm bullets. So.... now the current bullet selection is the same. I guess I'm not a seagull because I don’t pick brass. One reason is I’ve had some bad luck with range brass and I like matching head stamps. I like to buy, in bulk, once fired matched 9mm brass, inspect, size, prime and ready to finish loading in 1k batches as needed. (I don’t like to change a load and still have a ton of older finished ammo.) Loading with pre-sized and primed brass is fast and fun ;-) My STI Trubor runs 9mm major like a Rolex so why would I even consider a super???
  13. XL650 TWEAK With my Dillon XL650, I've always had trouble with the case sometimes stopping the shell plate from advancing either for a moment or requiring rocking the handle to clear and finish the stoke. The problem was the case binding with the heavy ejector wire over the shell plate. The sudden bind also caused the shell plate to jump and bounce powder out of the cases and it also broke a few of the plastic index cam rings as well. My easy solution has withstood a 1,000 round test run without a single other hang-up malfunction. I took the heavy ejection wire (that the case pushes against the case to eject) and bent an angle outward to the edge of shell plate countersink for the die. It was also necessary to bend out the looped end to fit back over the allen bolt head that holds down the shell plate. This defiantly works with 9mm and 40 but although it looks good for 45 I haven't function tested it for 45s. If a 45 was too big then a slight reduction in the bend would adjust the gap to be large enough for a 45. Attached is a PDF scan of a top view of the wire. If you have Abode 7.0, or higher, you can print the scan of the bent wire to full scale and use the print as a template to make your bends match. 14. I just crono'd a starting load for my new STI 9mm Trobor. My average 125gr Zero was 1,418 fps for a 177 PF. It runs great but last fall I failed crono with what had tested as a 169 PF in my Limited 40. I want the gun to shoot flat and safe. I had planned to shoot a lesor PF but I don't ever want to get knocked down to minor again..... Any thoughts??
  15. I just also setup my G34 with the Carver mount. I've tried to setup both CR Speed and Hogue speed holsters without any luck. Do you know of a IPSC speed holster that will work with this setup????
