  1. I would call a true opposable grip, in terms of shooting a pistol, one in which the support wrist is neutral (not canted/cammed forward) and the thumb is applying force on a vector directly opposite of the force vector from the fingers. Although they are applying force on different planes, the vectors would be roughly parallel. I think what clouds peoples' opinion on thumb rests are the many different brands on the market. All with varying locations for the pad/rest...It seems that people that are using thumb rests with the pad far forward, in a position where there thumb would normally be with a support-hand-cammed-forward type grip, are still using a wrist cammed forward grip or somewhat of a hybrid grip. I don't think you need to be a GM to comment on what your current grip is like and whether or not it works for YOU. I think where some people get in trouble is when they say that one particular grip, or method of doing something, is universally better than another. My grip when I shot Production with an SP01 Shadow was similar to what you are describing. I would apply force to the slide stop but with my wrist cammed forward as much as I could. My thumb was applying force to the gun more in a downward vector.
  2. I haven't read the article yet but how can one use true opposable grip without a thumb rest? I understand that one can apply force to a slide release or other feature in that area on a Production gun, but we're not talking about a true opposable grip.
  3. PD does like a $2 discount per thousand at 20k. Not a huge discount but who doesn't like saving $40?
  4. Loaded Firearm ................A firearm having a live round, empty case or dummy round in the chamber or cylinder, or having a live or dummy round in a magazine inserted in the firearm.
  5. Not to mention that if there actually is ammo in the magazine, you are now handling ammo in a safety area.
  6. So I noticed something interesting. I started using Lucas Extreme Duty gun oil and the yellow kernels aren't yellow anymore. There's still some unburned powder in my slide but they are dark.
  7. I've taken a few classes from some of the top people in the sport. One of those classes I walked away with a couple of things to work on. I didn't really get anything out of another class. I have taken Charlie Perez's class twice. Both times I walked away with a TON of stuff to think about and work on. His instruction continues to bring my game to new levels. Charlie is seriously one of the best, most profound instructors I've met. If you live in CO and want to get serious about getting good at this game, it's stupid not to take a class when he's offering one. The cost for the class at his home range is as cheap as it gets for this level of instruction. Moto-not sure about the cost of his class on the road as now you're talking about travel expenses.
  8. I guess I wouldn't mind if it took me less powder than my current load to make the same PF. I'd be a little worried if I had to add more.
  9. Cool chart. Thanks. Interestingly, it takes me 7.3gr of WAC with a 115gr to make 170PF also. Your data seems to be a good baseline if I wanted to try other powders. Although, I don't think I'm switching anytime soon. ETA-I recently started shooting Open and initially got 24lbs of WAC. I'm about halfway through it and will be ordering more soon. Is WAC consistent from lot to lot?
  10. Just curious. What did you hate about it?
  11. The thing that a lot of people don't quite understand is that using a thumb rest is a different type of grip than the left wrist cammed forward type of grip. What further complicates the matter is that the pad on different brands of thumb rests come in all different positions. Some have the pad pretty far forward near where the thumb would normally be with a left hand cammed forward grip. It seems like people that use thumb rests with the pad far forward toward the muzzle end, are using more of the left wrist cammed forward grip or a sort of hybrid of the two. The Gogun has the pad pretty far to the rear and is meant to be used with an opposable grip. If one tries to cam the left wrist forward and put pressure on the thumb rest, the dot gets all sorts of crazy. It takes a bit of trigger time and dot watching in practice to figure out how much pressure it takes, but I am realizing it's not very much pressure at all. I'm still figuring it out but am getting closer. For me, the opposable grip seems more natural, comfortable, faster and I get less muzzle lift.
  12. Is the grit comparable to sand paper in size and feel?
  13. That's a really big goof. And I'm not talking about on your part, Rowdy.
  14. I can't speak to that combo. Perhaps someone else can. Here's what I've tried so far with my Phoenix Trinity block: -PT Smooth Steel grip (perfect fit) -PT Evo grip (perfect fit) -Plastic STI grip (fits without rattle but you can see a tiny portion of the trigger. Locks fine though) -CK Metal grip (fits but wobbles around in the block a little. Locks fine)
  15. No worries. It's the thought that counts...
  16. Can anyone please tell me the proper steps for a USPSA member to shoot an IPSC match outside of the US? Do I need to get permission from that IPSC RD? Do I need some sort of approval from USPSA Pres?
  17. Yup. And it was going to be a 2 week wait from PT direct. Got mine from Speed Shooters International.

  19. Wait. Why do they use STI slide on their builds? I thought CK made their own slides.
  20. Take it up with NROI. DNROI has already spoken on the matter.
  21. In a 10 stage major, yes...I'd put money on a GM with a big stick and irons. If it's a 5 stage local with run here shoot, run there shoot, yeah, it'd be close. ETA-Here are some stages from different local matches in the past 3 months. If the stages are like this, I'd give 100 to 1 odds that a Limited GM with irons/big stick would annihilate an Open GM shooting Open 10...
