  1. My 625 has a 4" tapered barrel. A bit more "whippy" than the full underlug 5" barrel, but not uncontrollable. Just noticable. I liked the way it tracked better than the 5", though. I'd advise trying to shoot all the different barrel lengths and seeing what you like best Alex
  2. Well, the Reeve seemed to "go" with the Wilson...although given a choice, I'd rather hang the 1911 off my web gear than the knife. On second thought, it is hard to open an MRE with a pistol Silvertips (in the carry gun), although the same load as my wife runs in her Open gun works just fine in the shorty. Need to chrono it and see just how much velocity is lost in the short/unported barrel. Hmmm...should be interesting, as the porting in both Open guns starts just forward of the C-more's... Alex
  3. From top to bottom: Liota's uberspiffy 9 by 23 Open gun, my old 9 by 23 Open gun, my "Fat-Free .40" 6" Limited hoser, and my new Commander-slide Tritium-sight bushing barrel 9 by 23 carry gun. And just to show that I'm not a one-gun-shop guy, here is my old carry gun:
  4. Hey, I can answer that one. At the Texas State 3-Gun, we had a dastardly little stage with ports right on the ground. There were bullet-trap-backed targets just inside the ports...when I was stapling the targets up (down?), I ended up with the targets inverted. Seemed logical to me, since I was inverted when I was peeking through the ports. Of course, some folks think I'm inverted all the time Alex
  5. I seem to be going backwards. Just set up a 4" 625-4 with a fiber front sight and a set of "Jerry's" grips. Blade-tech holster and a whole pile of moon clip holders on a Safariland belt. First match was Sunday, shot (if my math was right) a 68% classifier. Pretty much right on, since I'm just a sucky 70-75% B shooter. Sure was fun, though. Alex
  6. GI 30's, no problems. Got bored and ordered rebuild kits from DPMS (green followers, new floorplates, new springs), still no problems. My C-Mag Beta-Drum works great, too. A
  7. L10: 7.97HF (about 80%?) (edit: 83%? Can't be right...) Now the hard question...revolver, 5.89HF...about what was that? (except "...too darn slow," I can answer that part already ) (edit: using the same numbers as I used for the L10 plus 10%, seems to be 68%. Guess I'll have to wait for the official word to make sure, all this math is making Alex sleepy...) Had a 4" tapered-barrel 625 laying around, and some nice 230 grain ball, these funny moon clip things, and said "hey, Jerry makes it look easy!" ...it isn't... Alex
  8. I'll be there, as will Liota. Stats, huh? Something has always been bothering me about stats...is it proper to staple a $20 to each scoresheet, or just two $100's to the last stage's sheet? Alex
  9. I haven't heard that she was in the hospital. I know that she hasn't cashed a check I wrote her back in January, so she can't be too broke. Then again, she has a habit of running credit cards two and three months after the purchase...not bad with a credit card, but downright annoying with a debit card. Be very careful if you happen to get a hold of her via phone and place your order. If she promises you a "good price" but doesn't tell you what that price is, she has a habit of hitting you for 125% of retail or better. I used to shop with her exclusively (to the point of wearing Lecks Guns shirts at matches), but her business practices have declined considerably in the last year/eighteen months. Now I shop elsewhere...cheaper, faster shipping, easier to contact...and I have new shirts. Alex
  10. From Drudge: The WALT DISNEY CO. is set to spend millions financing a new explosive Bush-bashing documentary from "Somebody that we don't need to talk about on the SHOOTING forum" [bOWLING FOR COLUMBINE] -- a documentary which claims bin Laden was greatly enriched by the Bush family! DISNEY, via subsidiary MIRAMAX, has agreed to cover the production costs, said to be in the millions, of Moore's planned FAHRENHEIT 911. "The primary thrust of the new film is what has happened to the country since Sept. 11, and how the Bush administration used this tragic event to push its agenda," Moore explains. FAHRENHEIT 911 will be released during the upcoming presidential election cycle. [More Moore in '04.] The director claims he will document on film how the "senior Bush kept his ties with the bin Laden family up until two months after Sept. 11." Moore will also scrutinize, in graphic detail, why America is so disliked abroad. With DISNEY financing now secure, Moore, who once railed against corporate media interests, may appear at this week's Cannes film festival in France.
  11. Winchster '92 in 44/40...but I'll check my records when I get back to Stately Wakal Manor. Managed to get some great pictures and information from the nice folks at Stembridge (before they closed). Not sure how accurate it was compared to some of the folks here, but the pictures are nice Alex
  12. Like I said a month ago: It shoots fairly well for a single stack .45, too. Not as well as my new ESP steath racegun, though...Benny Hill set up a Commander slide on a full size STI frame in 9 by 23 for me. Just hard to get used to the tritium front instead of my usual fiber I think I'll run it out of my usual carry holster, too...Bill-The-Master-Of-All hasn't complained about Milt Sparks Summer Special II rigs...yet...and it is on the (frozen) list. Alex
  13. Off topic, but to bounce off Julien's last post...when I'm working as a CRO or RO and reading off the shooting order, I usually pick one or two people (at random, although I try to not pick GM's) to be "Mr." or "Mrs." "First up is Bob, Ralph is on deck, Jim is in the hole, then Fred, Mr. Smith, Jimbo, Jamie..." If questioned, I remark that all shooters are special and others are more special. Usually good for a chuckle. On topic...a good RO doesn't have to be a good shooter. However, a good RO had better BE a shooter. Probaby 8 out of 10 of the horrible RO's I can remember over the years were non-shooters. Not sure why, but my current hypothosis is simple ego ("I can't shoot, but I can order shooters around"). Alex
  14. The M97 has the limitation of the 5-round tube, but it will accept a 17" bayonet...how DO you score bayonet holes? A
  15. The RNLTD is 30 Nov, so we should be there around the 28th. Enough time to catch the end of the season here, which is rather nice of the Air Farce. A
  16. Tim, And Virginia recognizes my Texas CHL, although with the itty bitty states that doesn't help much. From looking at Mapquest, it seems like I'd cross state lines there about as much as I cross county lines around here Looks like we will be stuck at Fort Meade, although living in Virginia sounds like the way to go. VERY glad to hear that IPSC is active around there, the weird "more than 20 round magazines not allowed" thing had me worried. Alex
  17. I hate being forced to leave Texas just to please the inane whims of a crazed general officer...who can't seem to think logically. "Hmmm...we don't have enough instructors to teach the current number of students. So...lets increase the number of students by 400% AND force all the instructors to leave! Of course that makes sense, I'm a general, I always make sense..." I also hate being lectured that "everyone must go overseas at least once during their career." Although I like pointing out to the mental midget (whilst said mental midget is in full tirade) that I have had, in fact, 5 overseas tours in the first nine years of my career. Usually there is some wide-eyed blinking, and then the favorite line "just because." Gag. I also hate volunteering for yet another overseas tour and being denied, although the folks who are going overseas don't want to go...the rule seems to be "if you want to go, you can't go." Happy? Happiness isn't an issue item. I really liked Texas, too. Alex
  18. My wife just received orders to lovely Maryland, and from perusing some of the CHL boards I see that we will be leaving the Republic for the People's Democratic Republic How is the IPSC up there on the other left coast? I see that having a gun in the automobile is a misdemeanor, and that concealed carry permits are nigh-impossible to get (unless connected, which I rather doubt a couple of TSgt's are)...what other fun can I expect in my military-enforced incarceration? Help? Alex
  19. Glad you liked Ms. Hattie's...that was one of the stages I came up with. I blame it, of course, on bad cabbage. We would like grass, too And...I was pleased to meet so many Brian Enos Forumites! A nice bunch of guys, all...but where are the women? My wife competed...why didn't everyone else's wives/girlfriends/next door neighbors shoot? We need more females on the firing line... Alex
  20. Duane, At least I got the old fart to quit carrying 158 grain round nose lead in that peashooter. My current project is to switch him from a 3" J-frame to a Commander-length .45...no luck yet. Old guys are tough to deal with sometimes. And yes, dealing with the latest "we do hearby decree that your holsters...which we used to like...we now hate, so thus we make this ruling just to annoy you" from Mount Olympus is pretty darn funny. Good thing I shoot a CQB from a Wilson holster with Wilson mag punches, otherwise I might have to change too Alex Alex
  21. Not concealable? I think not. My dear old geezer father has been toting around his J-frame in a muzzle-forward holster for many years. I mentioned this to him, and he found it pretty darn funny that the High Command thinks his decade-old carry holster isn't really a carry holster. Alex
  22. Wakal

    I Hate Liberals

Actually, it is "for the children..." Gag. Alex
  23. Call what is there...C is a C. When I was playing CRO at the Texas State Limited, one target had overlapping no-shoots. You guessed it, over the course of the match I got to call a two no-shoots and one A from a single hole. Joked about it during the RO match, but didn't think anyone would be unlucky enough to pull it off. Alex
  24. I moved from Minnesota to Texas because of gun laws...no sympathy for folks who don't: --vote --pester their Congresscritters unmercifully --vote with their feet when (1) and (2) don't work. Alex
