  1. Doesn't cut the perf, so no score. Although I really don't like letting targets overlap that much... Alex
  2. An entertaining read: http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html Alex
  3. Solidsnake, I felt a lot less welcome in Hawaii than I did when I was living in the United Kingdom, Germany, Danmark, Italy, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Kuwait, Korea, or Japan. I left the US in early 1990 and didn't get back until late 1999. I greatly enjoyed every overseas posting but Hawaii, and that was due to the lefty, radical, causcian [sic] child beating, racists. I made some good friends, but was VERY happy to move back to America. Back on topic...I think Limited-10 is just as stupid as the concept of Open-10. I'd rather take the opportunity to follow Vince's sneaky "lets slide USPSA over to the dark side of ISPC" and make Limited-10 into Standard. Push that holster back, boys, and load stubby mags If we want to play Open-10, then make it Modified instead. Stubby guns, stubby mags... Open, Modified, Limited, Standard, Production, Revolver. Then we would have almost as many separate venues as Cowboy Action...then we could have "cleats" and "no cleats", and "stable weapons platforms" and "no stable weapons platforms"... Alex
  4. Our club meets for breakfast at 0800 on match day, then goes out to the range and sets up stages. One rifle and one shotgun stage, nominal start 1100, then the 5-stage pistol match (2 stages are usually a re-dress of the rifle and shotgun stages) starting at 1300. We have five hard chargers, and then another four or five folks who will work if they are there. Tape/score/RO is run by the senior (or more dynamic personality) on each squad, scores are done by our ace score guy (wonder why he always has that slightly harried look?). Usual turnout is between 30 and 45. That schedule was carried over from the days before we ran the rifle/shotgun stages prior to the pistol match...since we are hosting the Texas State Three-Gun Championship ( http://www.sanangelogunclub.org/action_pis...stol/ts3gun.htm , a few slots still available, plug plug), we decided that we had better practice both running and shooting long guns What I discovered works a bit better (after playing Match Director the last two months) is to rough out the stages the afternoon before. Get the walls and steel set, and the target stands pre-positioned. Then all the hard core workers have to do is set the stands, stick, and skin the stages. Gives me a chance to make pretty stage descriptions at home on the computer instead of scribbling something with a leaky pen in the drifting sand out on the range Alex
  5. Glad to be back...I was getting all twitchy from the lack of reasoned discourse and intelligent posts.... A
  6. Does anyone know of a source for metal P99/SW99 guide rods? Alex
  7. I think I'll start shooting revolvers. Something with a nice little 715 power factor, maybe. Anyone make speed loaders for the X-frame Smith and Weasel yet? Moon clips, maybe... http://www.corbon.com/cgi-bin/cart.pl?db=p...CB500SW440HC/12 A
  8. Horror stories? Watched a guy chrono his "major" load at a State-level match, only find it come up short. Short of making "minor", too... Just because the military is handicapped with the Eurotrash 9mm (and be thankful that we didn't go with their police round of choice, the much-vaunted .32)...although come to think of it, we did get our revenge on the NATO crowd for foisting off 9mm on us by foisting off .223 on them...heh heh... Same goes for the Police. Most departments do not allow their officers to choose their own caliber or even weapons platform, so saying "9mm is good enough for them" just doesn't cut it. Speaking as an (ex) military cop, I wasn't happy with either the M9 or the 9mm round itself. I used to carry a P14 off duty, although in my old age I've switched to a single-stack. And...not only can you shoot well over the Major factory, you are more than welcome to shoot wuss Minor loads, just don't miss the A-zone Alex
  9. Two words...Benny Hill. Send slide on Monday, had it back Thursday of the next week with a spiffy new dovetailed front sight and low-mounted Bo-mar rear sight. Send slide/frame fit on Monday, 17 days later there was a complete Open gun laying on my front porch (stupid FedEx can't read "adult signature required" tags, which is another story...but lots of hate, so appropriate here). Actual milage may vary, but that is my 3.2 cents Alex
  10. I'll throw extra ammo in the truck JUST for you. I'll be shooting the weekend before with the rest of the RO's, of course, but I'll be sure to bring it along for the show...the line forms to the left! Definitely an E-ticket Alex
  11. It only likes max dram stuff...as long as you feed it big bullets, it runs perfectly. A
  12. I adore those clay-throwing poppers too. You will see them AND the much-vaunted Texas Stars on shotgun stages at the Texas 3-Gun Championship (plenty of slots still available, but it is filling up fast! Sign up, stage descritions, and match information here: http://www.sanangelogunclub.org/action_pistol/ts3gun.htm ) Chriss: You get 21 rounds in a sub-30" shotgun by making your mag go down (and around), not out... http://www.dreadnaught-industries.com/imag...s/USAS_race.JPG Yes, I get called about six kinds of bas'ard on the long 20+ round stages. Now with the Briley choke tubes in it, I can actually hit the long shots too Alex
  13. I thought the 7-round thing was for pump/slide action... That said, rant mode: on I'm holding out for reduction-in-capacity to reach such inanities that I can compete in IPSC three-gun and Cowboy Action with the same 1897 Winchester. Or side by side shotgun. Gag. My Open shotgun is a sub-30" OAL with a 21-round capacity. And yes, I'm still bitter that I can't load it all the way up. Alex
  14. Funny blue outfits instead of cool be.com tee shirts..."Wakal" and "Liota" Alex Wakal
  15. I usually follow the lead of the guy who instructed me in the fine arts of RO'ing. He likes to say "If you have read and understand the course description........load and make ready". The first part is there, to his way of thinking, to ensure the whining of the Grandmasters (or Grandmaster whiners/B Shooters) who like to mess up a stage and then say "why, I didn't KNOW you were not supposed to shoot through the wall/kick down the door/shave the dog's butt and teach him to walk backwards..." As long as it leads into the "LAMR" ( and as noted above, doesn't require a response as to not disrupt the more easily disrupted or folks lacking the "on/off" concentration switch)...and is consistant...is it bad? Alex
  16. Oh, that is just evil...I like it! So the rule would be that, if requested, the competitor would be required to sell their Production gun (if asked) for, lets be generous, full MSRP at the conclusion of any match... Alex
  17. I hate people who think that by adding a tall spoiler and a $9.99 "Ground Effects By Ronco" kit, combined with a large "Performance" sticker, that their retardmobile is now a sports car.
  18. http://www.triangleshootingsports.com/ works for me... Alex

  21. Just because a military veteran spent some time living at the expense of others doesn't give him the right to live at the further expense of others. You lost me again, Erik. Are you saying that a man who got his legs blown off while serving his country is not entitled to be taken care of by that country? Are you saying that a man whose kidneys failed after 30 years of toting around shrapnel in them, shrapnel caught while serving his country, is not entitled to be taken care of by that country? Is THAT what you are saying? I was following right along with you on the income tax = slavery thing, and the income tax = extortion thing, but you lost me with the vets = greedy ticks on the buttocks of the country part (to paraphrase slightly, of course). And I haven't had a reply yet from my sources, sorry for the delay. As an aside, even if the hospital was "donating" the time and space, we all pay for it in higher fees as they spread the cost around. Illegal alien: "not according to or authorized by law" + "a foreign-born resident who has not been naturalized and is still a subject or citizen of a foreign country." It is not as you call it", it is the correct term for someone not legally in this country. As her family bribed their way across our insanely porous border from Mexico, "illegal alien" or just "illegal" is an accurate descriptor. Alex (Edited by Wakal at 11:37 am on Feb. 25, 2003)
  22. While I'm looking, why don't you tell me who you think is paying for the high-end medical procedures this illegal alien received? On the government front: state first, then federal, if I follow the Byzantine labyrinth of funding correctly. I'll poke around tomorrow when my brain isn't frozen solid and get some links for you. I'll see if I can find the lawsuit from California a few years back, too...that was fun reading. PDK filed a lawsuit against the federal government, demanding more money to cover health care expenses run up by illegals. Their theory was that since the federal government was responsible for the borders, and since the federal government wasn't stopping illegals from entering the US, then the federal government should have to pay the entire cost of treating illegals instead of just a portion. Neat idea, didn't work though. I really REALLY hope I misread what you wrote: ...and a sick veteran both have the same moral right to benefit from the money extorted from other people, no right at all. Extorted? I agree with that description of the tax fraud perpetrated on the American people over the last century, but part of the contract between soldiers and the US government was that the soldiers would have medical care, especially for injuries received in combat. The fact that most veterans do not receive that care is a crime, and the fact that a healthy chunk of the VA budget is left in Bethesda...the military hospital where congresscritters get walk-in service and the military gets turned away at the gate...is also a crime. But to say that veterans have no moral right to expect the government to fulfill their oft-stated obligations to take care of those veterans...I hope that isn't what you were saying, because you seem to be a highly intelligent and genuinely nice guy and that just wouldn't be in character. I must have misunderstood you. Alex (Edited by Wakal at 9:30 pm on Feb. 24, 2003) (Edited by Wakal at 9:32 pm on Feb. 24, 2003)
  23. Rather naive of you to ask that, Erik. Who do you think pays for things when people (or their insurance companies) do not? Those illegals didn't pony up the quarter million dollars for her botched surgery, and the hospital will not just eat that cost. They will file a claim with the government, who will pay it out of hand. And the government pays for things with...why, I do believe it is our money. American tax dollars. Big Springs VA hospital is about two hours drive from here. I visit now and then, not as much as I should, but I'm emotionally weak and can't take that much pain on a voluntary basis. But you go, and talk to those loyal Americans, and tell them why they are way down the list for donated organs yet some illegal aliens can bribe their way into this country and get primo medical care...medical care paid for by the very government who won't take care of their own. The system is broken. Yes, the hospital messed up. Her death is a terrible thing. But she never should have been there in the first place. Mexico wants to be the equal of the US...well, then, they need to take care of their people instead of allowing them to sneak across our borders so we can take care of them instead. The Mexican Army shoots Guatemalans who sneak across the border INTO Mexico, but up north it is a different story. And Canada...Oh, Canada...I grew up in Minnesota. If socialized medicine worked, then why are all the hospitals in Minnesota crammed full of Canadians (who are willing to play their own way instead of trust their own socialized system)? That said, it sure is funny that Americans wander up to Canada to get their prescriptions filled cheap, instead of paying the malpractice and FDA-driven exorbitant US prices. Alex
  24. And that the illegal alien parents refused, after two sets of organs were used on their daughter at no cost to them, to allow any of their daughter's organs to be donated. Nice. Alex
