  1. I shoot IDPA with a gentleman who had heart surgery and he was back shooting in a few months. I don't remember exactly how long. Shouldn't you be in better shape after you are healed than you were before surgery? I don't want to sound disrespectful but I just wondered. Bill Nesbitt
  2. I have the same problem once in a while loading 9mm on my 1050. It only seems to happen when the brass hopper is getting low. I have a pair of tweezers to remove the piled up brass quickly. Then I load the hopper and everything goes OK. Bill Nesbitt
  3. I agree with Flex on the Glocks with one exception. We need to include Revolvers. Actually, I sort of ranted on this in another thread. If USPSA is to grow it will be in the divisions where new shooters can enter cheaply. Production & Revolver both need to be promoted more, not as a beginner place, but as a division with as much pride & honor in winning as Open or Limited. The FGN is a good start. Stage design is another place to promote Production & Revolver. Anyway, Gary, good luck. Maybe I will see you at the Buckeye Blast. Bill Nesbitt
  4. I am about 75% B and 25% A. I just enjoy going out and shooting. Of course when I do well it is even better. I don't want any reward other than seeing how well I do against the other shooters who were there that day. If I win a match against a bunch of people who never held a gun before it is not as rewarding as placing well against really good shooters. So I am not D. Do you want a trophy?? I have 3 boxes of 2nd & 3rd places in the basement I will give you. I keep all the Firsts. As far as keeping shooters. Does anybody actually know how many shooters switched from USPSA to IDPA? I switched because all the local clubs switched. Since Rayners opened I can shoot both. I think many people think they can get into IDPA cheaper. USPSA really needs to promote Production. That is where they can increase the numbers. It is promoted now as a place for beginners. It needs to be as important as any other division in USPSA. How many people come out to shoot a USPSA match and never come back? How many people never come out to shoot a USPSA match because they think they need expensive equipment? One local IDPA shooter who had competed in CDP with a 45 carrying a giant range bag with ammo, spare gun etc. recently switched to a Beretta. Now he carries one of those 100 packs of cheap ammo from Wally World. In another thread ego was talked about. I think that is a big part. Ken Hackathorn once said in a group of shooters: " We are all Alpha Males here. Everybody wants to be in charge." I think the same is true about coming out to shoot. If you can't be the top dog in shooting they will go to something else where they can be the Alpha Male. Even if it is just sitting on the couch at home. Brian said we must have "egolessness" to shoot well. I agree. Of course I agree with Brian. Another of my pet peeves is stage design. Follow the freaking rules people. It says no more than 8 shots required from a shooting position. I guess I got a little windy didn't I? Bill Nesbitt

  9. The dates for the IDPA Nationals have been changed to 9-24 to 9-27 to remove the conflict. Bill Nesbitt
  10. The dates for the IDPA Nationals have been changed to not conflict with the USPSA Nationals. The new dates for IDPA are 9-24 to 9-27 2003. I just learned this and checked the IDPA web site. The dates have been changed. Bill Nesbitt

I have been researching this question in old American Handgunner magazines. In the March/April 1978 issue is an article about the 1977 IPSC World Championship. Jeff Cooper is the author. He talks about the International Practical Shooting Confederation being formed at the Columbia Conference in 1976. He also says the first international championship was hosted by the Swiss at Glattfelden in 1975. It was won by Ray Chapman. The other major event in 1976 was the Austrian World Championship. This was the second international contest & was not held under the rules of the newly formed IPSC. It was won by Jan Foss of Norway. Since Ray Chapman won in 1975 before IPSC was formed is this a trick question and is the real answer the 1977 IPSC Championship and the correct answer is 1st: Dave Westerhout of Rodesia, 2nd Peter Maunder also of Rodesia? My head is spinning. Bill Nesbitt
  16. Since I have been going through old American Handgunner magazines to see if my guess was right, here are the USA shooters who were in the top 20 in 1977: 3rd:Raul Walters, 5th:Thomas Campbell, 6th:Ray Chapman, 8th:Jerry Usher, 9th:Ron Lerch, 10th:Leonard Knight, 11th:Mike Dalton, 13th:Kirk Kirkham, 19th:John Davis. I don't have copies of the first 3 issues of AH. I think thats where the results are for 1976. Back to the basement to look through old Guns & Ammo and Guns magazines. Bill Nesbitt

  18. You need a round nosed bullet for fast reloads no matter what you get. I am not aware of anything but flat nose for .40. The spacing of the chambers on the 45 seems to be a little better for fast reloads than the 40's. The 646 was supposed to be the new hot setup for IDPA but those that have one shoot something else. I switch between a 25-2 with moon clips & a model 10 with speedloaders. I reload both about the same speed. I can load major with the 45 but not the model 10. See if you can try other peoples guns. Bill Nesbitt
  19. A while back we had a thread about the missing Top Gun shooters. But does anybody know what happened to Joe Average Shooter. The USPSA membership numbers are in the 40,000s. You see very few numbers below 20,000 or 30,000. It seems like most of the members are new. My number is A-4429. I have seen a lot of people come & go. Where did they go? What caused them to drop out? I dropped out of USPSA for a while & only came back because of Revolver & Production. I got tired of poor stage design & the arms race. Some of the new rules seem to be helping that. How many single stack compensated 45s & 38 Supers are in gun safes somewhere because they are outdated? I have a Nastoff that hasn't been shot in years. Did they take up golf. Where did they go? Does anybody know? And if you do know someone like that how can we get them back?? Bill Nesbitt
  20. I think for local club matches it is OK to do strange stuff once in a while. Nothing is on the line like a state or Nationals match. I hate it when a big match is so screwed up you wish you had gone shopping instead. Bill Nesbitt
  21. Vince, 9.5.1 says "Unless otherwise stated in the written stage briefing" two hits to score. We need some variety in stage design. Bill Nesbitt
  22. Bill, The only thing I can find in the IDPA rule book is where it says "Stupid is stupid: Was the written description left over from the last match or was it posted just to confuse shooters? Was anything unsafe? I personally don't like surprise stages very well because they are not the same surprise for everybody. Just sounds like poor stage design to me. I have seen people design stages to try and "get" the top shooters. It doesn't work. They just "get" the average or beginner shooters. Bill Nesbitt
  23. IDPA scores the whole head the same, minus zero. It was kind of a shock to me when I started shooting USPSA again. Bill Nesbitt
  24. Are all the chambers clean? Sometimes 22's can gunk up after a few shots & the round won't go quite all the way in. Then the firing pin pushes the round into the chamber farther instead of hitting the rim hard enough to fire. Try pushing on the rear of each cartridge when you drop them into the chamber. Bill Nesbitt
  25. My best was all the parts to build a 9mm Commander. Bill Nesbitt
