  1. Is it just me or what? but PV has small magnum rifle primers since last night .. http://www.powdervalleyinc.com/CCIprimers.shtml I noticed that also last night... just don't know if I belive it or want to wait for the order.
  2. Don't know anything about the school but let's see: Arizona Pros - world class shooting on a weekly basis with some of the biggest names in the sport pretty great pro gun laws awesome retail and manufacturer support short drive to Cali, New Mexico (Raton), Colorado, Vegas baby, and not too far from Texas Cons - have to compete with me for primers, powder, etc. Looks like AZ is out, sorry man. lol I love my state but it's definately a fight any more when voting time comes around so you are for sure welcome here. Regards, Tiz
  3. Why do you need a round-specific BDC? Just shoot it at various distances and note the holdovers (first ladder mark, second, etc). The Sharpie written yardages clutter up the field of view, hehehe. j/k I don't care when I'm using the Nighforce on my PR rig but for my 3 gun rifle I actually tailor my loads to work with the reticle for quick shots with little thinking involved. As with any scope, it's all in how YOU use it.
  4. Depending on what load you use, it will also work for .308.
  5. Well I love 'em. The more crude it is, the harder I laugh. I also love all the action movies and don't consider them "top notch" unless there's a gratuitous amount of nudity, violence, and explosions. Now, that being said... I could do with out 'em. The reason being that apparently there just isn't a very large crop of what I consider "parents" out there any more. It's extremely apparent with all the crap these kids are doing these days and I could probably count on one hand how many well mannered kids I've run into in the last 5 years even. So, if movies and T.V. are going to raise all the kids out there then I guess I could do without my choice of entertainment. Of course all of this is a total copout and nobody should be punished for the actions or inactions of others but I guess that's the society we live in now... and that's why so many think gun control is a good idea.
  6. Don't know that I'd enjoy seeing either of those contraptions on a stage but I'd love to have one of each for practice. I think I'm gonna have to bust out the welder. The "evil" plate rack looks great for working on transitions and accuracy. Looks like shooting outside to inside is the way to go.
  7. I don't think that's in keeping with the spirit of the challenge. Or better yet....."That was not the stage designer's intent". (you're supposed to know those things, right?) Man, most popular obviously does not = best, lol.
  8. AWESOME!!!!!! Thank God I got to watch something tonight that could absorb the suck that is Saturday Night Live, lol.
  9. Now that would be cool, let us know what you find out please.
  10. Now that's an "A" for effort. Don't worry, I'm having a hard time staying consistently below a one second reload as well, lol. Sorry about the laptop, Tiz.
  11. Well for the purpose of the man down range... it wasn't worth it. Pictures aren't worth risking such an easy accident. Now as to the "response" video, I haven't heard that much jabbering and dancing around an issue since the presidential campaigns. My .02: Yes, we are a little rediculous with safety in the competition shooting world... Because we have to be. Wouldn't be very good for the sport or the right to keep and bare arms if we kept shooting each other accidentally. Especially since we aren't training for real world fire fight circumstances. However, when training to go into combat it does sometimes necessitate being down range and hearing that all too familiar snap of friendly rounds going by. Just a part of the business seeing as how we're not big fans of fighting using British pre-American revolution tactics any more. Tiz
  12. Well since everyone's sharin'... I don't have pics of either, I'm stuck working in Cali. My work truck: AZ veterans plate: M252 = 81mm mortar system My baby (lifted, bright red 95 chevy pickup, very loud 450hp stroker) AZ veterans plate: INFDL = suck on that Bin Laden!
  13. I recommend the Jewel but I'm not sure what style of shooting you're into. The Jewel is adjustable for pull weight so that helps cover a few different styles, the only thing I don't really care for how thin the trigger is.
  14. That's what we're figuring too. I've never used anything other than the pinned gas block because it's so uber reliable. Pretty cool when you think about it, makes me realize how truly ingenious the gas operated rifle is. Wonder what else I could pipe that gas to?... maybe an Aliens style round counter, lol.
  15. After reading the replies I re-read my post to see that I failed to mention that the comp had always been on the rifle. It's a JP comp as well, but the only changes were the bolt and gas block, well new barrell too but that shouldn't affect anything as it specs out the same. As far as muscleing the weapon... ?? the rifle rests on the support hand. Muscleing goes against everything I know or teach. All I was really asking was what in theory would reduce the downward push on the muzzle. Smaller ports would create higher pressure with less volume, and vice versa with larger ports. I just didn't want to drill out the ports only to make matters worse. Is "tuning" the comp a common practice?
  16. A friend and I were discussing what comp to try next after he added a JP reduced weight bolt carrier and adjustable gas block. He said the recoil is absolutely awesome now and he loves it from a supported position but when shooting off-hand the muzzle flips below the target. I of course told him to turn the comp upside down (he shoots too damn well anyway), but he saw through my words of "wisdom." So my question is, if you were to drill out the top holes, would the downward pressure be reduced? Or would it be better to fill them in? We won't be doing either but I'm still wondering what the answer would be. Any ideas? Thanks, Tiz
  17. You're the man! Thanks for the heads up, I may have enough for the rest of the year now. Thank You
  18. I imagine it might not lend itself to the structural rigitidy the OP was looking for. THAT IS A GOOD LOOKING RECEIVER. VERY INTERESTING CONCEPT. I get that, I guess I'm probing for the version I might want to buy when he goes all JP with his design, lol.
  19. I like it, very sexy. The ejection port looks small but it's probably the angle. What about a left side charging handle version?
  20. Man, you can't do anything fun anymore, lol. The stuff we used to do in chemistry class is a federal offense nowadays, ie. dry ice bombs. I'm moving the family to Mexico, it gets less crowded down there every day.
  21. Currently attempting to prove this with my 34 I read every post on this thread and I still can't stop giggling about this one, lol. Thanks for the laughs, you guys rock. Tiz
  22. The Unit was a great show, not a perfect show, but probably the best show on T.V. these days. The local morning radio show I listen to recently pointed out how T.V. has been moving rapidly toward female only programming. No offense to the ladies on the site but I definately agree. The desperate housewives have taken over the remote, guess I'll have to stick with the Outdoor, Pursuit, and Sportsman channels. NCIS is still a good one but it's only a matter of time. I can't remember the name of it but re-runs of the show with the nuclear attacks/civil war are still pretty great to watch. Tiz
  23. I notice most of the posts on this thread are from instructors and I thought I would give my opinion as a student. This is actually the first time I've posted on this forum so as you can see, I'm here to learn. I am just getting into competetive shooting, for speed anyway, and I am learning from research as well as personal instruction from a friend who is quickly making a name for himself locally. I have known him since we were very young and until he truly took up the sport, I could spank him in any form of shooting. But now, my only advantage would possibly be if there was a mile run in the middle of the stage... round is a shape right bro, lol. What I'm saying is that a good student will take what he wants from an instructor and that's it. If the instructor has more to offer, then the student will take more. For some students who are dumb enough to bring their ego to class, then maybe a little smack down ie. "demo" is necessary but that would usually only apply to required classes and not highly expensive requested classes. I find the greatest respect for my instructor comes from him watching ME and showing ME how to improve MY times, not showing me how fast he is. If my time and technique improves then he's a great instructor even if I manage to surpass him. P.S. That being said, I'd still be pissed if I payed for instruction from T.G.O. , Burkett, Butler, Miller, Lamb, etc. and didn't get to watch them monkey stomp a stage before, during, or after a class, lol. I'd supply the weapon, ammo, beer, whatever to see that in person. Great reading and learning from all of you on this forum and look forward to soaking up your knowledge... as ego free as a Jarhead can. Thanks, Tiz
