  1. I want to install sling swivels on a Bell& Carlson synthetic stock(anschutz) on a 10/22 with Techsights. Looking to use it for appleseed class in the spring. The kit says the wood screws for mounting (10/22 Uncle Mikes kit) are 1/4" Does anybody know the proper drill bit size to use? I was planning on drilling slightly smaller and using the screw itself to 'tap' the hole by threading in and out a little more each time. Maybe use a little epoxy once the hole is completely threaded. Am I way off, is there a better way to do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Unfortunately the ban didn't expire for eveyone.... MA thought they knew more than all the supporting data and kept it. Yeah... it's pathetic here. ****deleted rant****** I apologize to moderators and anybody who might have been offended. I would like to get into USPSA, but it pretty much looks like a 2 h + drive to any club with regular matches (NY, MA or RI) - I can't do that on a regular basis with my schedule.
  3. How do you suspend the pistol/parts in the solution? Do you know if it does anything to fiber optic sights? Thanks
  4. I really hate cleaning my revolvers and the deeper recesses of many semi actions. I was wondering if anybody has used these on a regular basis I would love to hear your comments.
  5. I have 2 sets of molded plugs. The first are full coverage and were made at a gun show. The second set I really really love. I went to an ear doctor, discussed the type of shooting I do (she asked, shotgun, indoor pistol, outdoor pistol etc....) They are actually 1/2 coverage and have a filter/channel in them that really allows me to hear voice commands etc. They can also fit them with electronic filters.... I highly recommend going to an ear doctor etc. They cost a little more but I am completely satisfied with them.
  6. I tried some loads last weekend in my XDM (stock with less 500 rds down the pipe) Chrono CED M2, Winchester brass, Wolf SPP, 185 Precision Black bullets, VV320, OAL 1.135 The following are the results: 3.7 g Shot Vel Power Factor 1) 766.4 141.8 2) 774.6 143.3 3) 754 139.5 4) 807.4 149.4 5) 769.5 142.4 6) 775.9 143.5 7) 763.8 141.3 8) 768.7 142.2 9) 769.4 142.3 10) 799.3 147.9 High: 807.4 149.4 Low: 754 139.5 E.S.: 53.4 Ave.: 774.9 143.4 S.D.: 16.3 95%: 12.3 3.9 g Shot Vel Power Factor 1) 814.7 150.7 2) 809.9 149.8 3) 797.8 147.6 4) 821.9 152.1 5) 834.3 154.3 6) 821.7 152.0 7) 780 144.3 8) 840.2 155.4 9) 817.1 151.2 10) 837.6 155.0 High: 840.2 155.4 Low: 780 144.3 E.S.: 60.2 Ave.: 817.5 151.2 S.D.: 18.6 95%: 14 4.1 g Shot Vel Power Factor 1) 874.8 161.8 2) 880.9 163.0 3) 872 161.3 4) 864.2 159.9 5) 865.5 160.1 6) 839.2 155.3 7) 859.6 159.0 8) 859.1 158.9 9) 852.5 157.7 10) 842.7 155.9 High: 880.9 163.0 Low: 839.2 155.3 E.S.: 41.7 Ave.: 861.1 159.3 S.D.: 13.4 95%: 10.1
  7. For me, I would get 2 toolheads, one with just a sizing/decapping die. The other die would have all the remaining dies. You will need a caliber conversion kit for the 650 or the apppropriate parts (including powder die). You may want to get a second powder measure/quick change depending on how often you plan on switching back and forth between 9mm and 223. I have a set of the Dillon dies, but also have a Redding competition seating die (allows excellent control on seating depth). You will need lube, and sooner or later a trimmer, and of course case gauge and reloading manuals. Call Brian he will help you get whatever you need.
  8. I was told by one of our NRA instructors that any positive test (above recommended limits) had to be reported by the Dr to the State and investigated. Some members at one of my clubs mentioned that they didn't get tested for that reason, I wish I knew if this was true as I would like to be tested. Here in the the NE, they are looking for every excuse to close ranges, regulate shooting etc....
  9. Another option is one of the 'open' kits: http://www.jagerproducts.com/ You can also check out gamingoddess (youtube videos) she runs a glock as well - did "Walls of Steel" here with it this summer. She probably has the Carver mount with C-more.
  10. Ray Charles Shooting glasses (instead of RayBan) 10-XL ammo 5 91/2 tactical wear Trojan because safety comes first - condoms
  11. I have seen rolls of mats for sale at Sears, for shop floors etc.
  12. I would love part numbers if you have them handy. Thanks
  13. IMHO you don't need the powder check for most rifle calibers. At least with 223 or 308 there really isn't any extra room in the case with most loads I have tried.... This is how I would change it (my additions in red). 1. Tumble 2. Spray will Dillon case lube (or a homemade lanolin and alcohol substitute) 3. Dump into the Dillion 650 case feeder. 4. Size and decap with an RCBS X-sizer die with the mandrel screwed in the up position, do NOT, remove the round when it reaches the priming station because you do NOT have any primers in there in the first place. Keep cycling the press and just resize with the one toolhead equipped only with the RCBS X-sizer die. Allow the brass to exit the press just like normal.. 5. When all the brass is sized, sit down with the bucket and trim to length using Possum Hollow case trimmer chucked into a drill. The trimmer indexes off of the case shoulder, so it is very fast. (accurate?) Throw into a second bucket. 6. Chamfer / deburr with the Possum Hollow chamfer/deburring tool. 7. Deburr primer crimps. (only required for once fired military NATO stamped brass) 8. Dump processed brass into case feeder and load with a second toolhead set up like this: Station #1: empty NO die Station #2: Primes and powder charges Station #3: checks powder with Dillon sensor Station #4: seats bullet (preferably with say a Redding or Hornady or Forster micrometer adjustable bullet seating die. Station #5: use a Lee FCD to lightly crimp the case mouths into the bullet (some would say this is optional) Loaded rounds exit off to the side like normal 9. Tumble the brass just long enough to knock off the residual case lube. Go shoot! When you gather up enough of that brass, then transfer the RCBS X sizer die to the second toolhead and then, yeah, you really can load them up like pistol ammo. NO trimming required. If you go to RCBS.com, there is a video on that page that shows a cutaway of how the X die works. You just have to keep track of which brass has been X-die'ed and trimmed already and which hasn't. This Hornady Headspace Gage gadget comes in handy for determing how far back you are bumping your cases shoulders back, especially with the initial resizing. You do NOT have to use the RCBS X-sizer die in the first toolhead. Any ol' full length decapping/resing die should work. Just after the first firing after the first trimming as per the X-sizer die's instructions is when you need to use the X die with the mandrel screwed DOWN. Welcome to the forums. This is just what I needed, thanks for posting Chills, but I do have a couple of Q's, after processing the brass are we supposed to tumble first then load on tool head 2? and after the first processing we can load like pistol do you still have to lube the cases?
  14. FYI a buddy of mine is a firefighter and I asked him regarding their concern about ammo, powder etc He said there were many other items in the house that scare them much more. #1 were propane canisters, other things were cans of various paints, etc.
  15. Weidners is listing Wolf large pistol (as well as small and large rilfe) primers in stock. http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=278|284|737
  16. I unpacked my 40 S&W caliber conversion for my 650 and was struck by the fact that there are 2 of the case feed adapters - one red (medium) and one purple (smaller diameter). I have reloaded 38 spl, 45 AC, 45 Colt and 223 so far. I don't remember any of those kits coming with multiple adapters, but maybe because the 40 S&W kits is a 40 SW/10 mm. I assumed the major difference was case length (as in 38 spl/357 mag). I installed the purple one, and installed the small pistol plate in the casefeed - was this correct? I also noted that the bench wrenches that Dillon sells do not have a 'wrench' for the Die locking rings (other than the powder die). I can't believe I didn't remember this, but just struck me as odd this evening. Thanks
  17. I had a similar problem last year, from golf and shooting. My chiropractor gave me this strap/brace/band that you put around you lower arm just below the elbow. Wearing it for a couple weeks really really helped and I no longer have any issues at all. It takes some of the pressure off the tendons/ligaments and relieves the pain/stress....
  18. Mick - we have another fun target that we use for cowboy shooting. It has 1 activator plate that must be dropped to release the main target that is a standard steel Silhouette that swings about 180 degrees back and forth. You can put a no shoot target or hard cover blocking any amount of the swing to make it more/less easy. One of our shooters put it together himself. If interested I can probably get you some pic's. John
  19. Does it come that way? Or do you have to bend it? (Which might make drilling holes more attractive.) I have found myself using Rebar sections that I bought at HomeDpt. They don't have a bend, and are a little larger than some of the 10" nails, but are quite cheap and very durable - CT does not have much soil - just lots of granite and tree roots.
  20. +1 for checking your crimp, I have had the same problem in another shooting sport altogether CAS and by increasing crimp the problem went away.
  21. Thanks - I of course posted before I did a search. I found that company through a search and they now sell the CR speed holster already modified. I will post pictures and results when I get all the parts together. John
  22. Hello - I am relatively new to this forum (lurking mostly), and have been dabbling in IDPA, 3gun and steel matches. I am thinking of adding an optic to my XDm for some steel matches we are having. Has anyone tried one of these Carver mounts for the XDm? Any advice? Also what holster would accept the pistol/mount/optic combination? Thanks
  23. FWIW cowboy shooters are moving to lighter and lighter bullets (125 and even 105 g 38's - at least the gamers). I personally shoot 45 C using the dark stuff during cowboy shooting - no gaming there, I am lucky to see the targets after the second shot.
  24. It can be sent directly to you. Yep, mine was waiting for me on my doorstep after Carmoney worked his magic on it - a little disconcerting not signing for it....
