  1. Rick: I think it is called Natural Corn Cob. I don't have left over bag but it is sold in various sizes. It is recommended as bird and small animal bedding. I've also used the walnut shell that is labeled Zilla. Steve
  2. +1 to JFlowers Petco for corn cob with dryer sheet. The garage has that just washed in sunshine smell after separating!
  3. My deepest condolence on the loss of your Mom. I can empathize as I lost my Dad on 1 January 2008 and my Mother on 15 October 2008. Prayers are with you. Steve
  4. Bart et alia: The culprits are the mailers that the publications use. There are companies that provide the renewal notices as a service. Many merely receive a list of subscribers and create a mailing list for notices. I doubt if they use the date of expiration as a parameter and send mailings to one and all in a batch. Many large publishing companies still continue to use an in house subscription department but the numbers a dwindling. Another peeve of mine is the subscriber post cards I receive in my copy of a magazine. There are full page subscription cards and then those that drop out of the magazine while reading it, especially in the throne room! Then lets talk about the bulk advertisements in your mailbox that you have already seen in the Sunday paper. As EEYore would say "Oh bother".
  5. Talk about spewing sodee on the monitor after reading that. Warranty time to dealer..."Hey my truck seat has the mange; look at this strange pattern only happened at my belt line what's up with that?"
  6. Even the blind hog find an acorn every now and then.
  7. So this is what you guys are thinking and saying under your breath while waiting for me to check out. Retards...everyone knows one. I carry a sign!
  8. Pecan trees abound in NE Louisiana and I've seen several of the pecan picker uppers at garage sales for pennies. I just takes another set of eyes to expand the utility value of this back saver. I have seen the roller type and ones that you just 'stab' like a trash picker. You could mount one of the rollers on a radio controlled car and let it do the work! Reminds me of the kid driving the golf ball picker at the driving range.
  9. I have always liked Dodge and Ford better than I liked Chevy. If I was building a racecar I would build a Chevy, hands down. There are more and cheaper parts, experts and accessories available for racing a Chevy. If you are going to race a revolver, race a Smith and Wesson. Great analogy and I would have Cupit & Johnson build it, if they were still around. Not that my 2¢ are worth much, but I would agree with the S&W sentiment. Availablity of parts (aftermarket & OEM), smiths, equipment and what other shooters are using pretty much gives a Smith a leading edge.
  10. Plinking and home defense shouldn't be used in the same breath. If he wants to plink advise him to shop for a used Ruger, Taurus, S&W revolver in .22 rimfire; get him signed up for a gun safety course and THEN point him toward a range. For home defense Rem Model 870 are available at nearly every pawn shop & gun show. It sounds as if the new purchaser is in more need of education than a firearm, especially if he is looking at the Gang Banger special of the day. I would not rely on a cheap (note I didn't say inexpensive) tool for any tasks. A Black & Decker drill against a Senco comes to mind. The lifetime warranty is a moot point when you have experienced FTF and the bad guy has a bat, brick, knife etc. Just my 2¢

    AARP

A path to redemption would be to donate his travel savings to the NRA, with a letter to AARP thanking them for the ability to support the 2nd ammendment.
  12. I am near sighted and wear the transition lenses. Fortunately, I can read without glasses and able to clearly see at arm's length. Instead of going only with single lense distance correction, I chose a distance on top and clear bottom bifocal with a smaller area on bottom than normal. I can access the target and not be bothered with the tilting head or bouncing eyes to see the front sight. It didn't take any adjustment or learning curve. Couple this vision deal with being right handed and left eye dominant and not able to use a patch over left eye. The Gawds not only put my brain in backwards, but also upside down. I have been reduced to plinking and having to use my old 870 for any success at that!
  13. You might also try Shooter's Choice Lead Remover. Be careful with application as it will ruin some finishes.
  14. Go find a Lewis Lead Remover locally. If unavailable Brownells has them http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/pro...il.aspx?p=21587
  15. Being new to the forum and some of the nomenclature, I was curious as to what BTT and Bump mean. I've seen BTT in a few areas. The bump is seen in the classifieds. I am old but according to my wife, still teachable.
  16. The mind is the first thing to go. How about Model 639. Since I had spinners on my brain and I still have 2 629s the coordination between brain and fingers was out of time! Thank you for the proof read!
  17. When I started shooting revolvers back in the late '60s, I was taught to replicate the grip until it was second nature. I am a feeler. The only pistol I have fired with any regularity, beside .22's, is a S&W Model 629 9mm. (It was pretty and 9's were popular). With that gun I am a thinker and since having read way too much on tactical & practical shooting I use a 60/40 grip or attempt it.
  18. Although I am new here, I am old. I'm an ash man, myself
