  1. Glad to hear IMR 4895 meters well. I got all the components and just need a Lee crimp die and I will be turing out about 1000 rounds. Thanks for the post Brian.
  2. The liquid or the powder LOL.
  3. In my opinon the biggest reason for most guys not shooting Limited is the cost. The guns that dominate that Division are the S_I guns. And the initial cost of the gun plus mags, belt, holster, pouches are just too much money for most. I know of 2 shooters who would love to get into the Limited Division but just cannot justify the initial start up cost. Now I am aware that you could go with say a XDm or G35 amongst others. But I think everyone would agree that they are not what the majority of shooters in Limited are running. Others like the gaming of only having 10 rounds in the mag. It addes another dynamic to the sport.
  4. Well thanks to everyone's input on this post it really did help. I loaded 1400 rounds yesterday and not a hiccup. It was giving me alot of trouble but I followed some of the tips in here before starting and I guess it took care of it. First I swung the arm around and noticed that it pointed inward alot so I striaightened it some to make the primer arm move further rearward. It is still angled in but I think I did get it a little straighter. I didnt want to get drastic and break it. Second, I took the primer system apart and wiped all the bearing surfaces down with alcohol wipes. Third, and I think most important the scouring pad trick. I took the primer slide and polished it up with one of those green dish scrubber pads. I think that really helped the most. I reassembled everything and then dropped 1 primer 10 times in to the cup with out any issues. 1,400 rounds later still no problems. I think I might load a few hundred tomorrow morning. I hope I did not just jinx myself with this post.
  5. Beretta 96 in Stainless. Not sure what movie exactly but I just always like the look. That was my frist ever pistol purchase. And the start down the slippery slope. I cant think of any movies that directly influenced other purchases but the Miltary channel sure has cost me more than the monthly network programing. The Barrett comes to mind.
  6. Well with the news of Midway having WSP's (for a few minutes anyway) I decided to get on a back order at Grafs. I just read through the post and it seems like they still have not shipped any Winchester Small Pistol out in quite some time. If any of you placed a BO and have got them in can you tell me how long you waited? Thanks.
  7. I hope you have a snow cone stand close by so you can have something soothing to wipe with.
  8. JPT - For entry level the 2 most popular choices are the Savage 10 series and the Remington 700's. I would go with a 700 due to the fact that the 700 actions are the AR-15's of the bolt gun world. Anybody who makes aftermarket parts for bolt guns has something compatable with the 700 actions. If you are going to shoot long range do not fall into the 20" shorter barrel is more tactical movement. For long range you need FPS and it is alot easier to achieve that with barrel lenght than pushing the edge of the envelope with powder charges. For this reason I would recommend the 700P formally called the 700PSS, you also can get a varmint rifle, something in the SPS line up. It is the same action and barrel just with a different finish. The P's and PSS' are still out there and gunbroker can be your friend. http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=141110253 It is a great entry level gun. It has a good stock, although I do not care for the ergonomics of the palm swell, a 26" barrel, an adjustable trigger (which you are going to want to back down. Simple to do it is the bottom screw that is the only one you want to mess with), and shoots lights out for a factory gun. As others have mentioned use the rest of the funds to buy a good set of rings, a solid one peice base (I would recommend a 20 MOA base of you want to go out to 1000) and the best glass you can afford. If you look on snipers hide they are constantly selling guns, optics, mounts, ect. If you are not in a huge hurry check there often and you may get a complete really nice set up for less than 2K. And finally as Leam mentioned eventually you are going to want to load for it. To get out to 1K with a .308 you are going to need the right load. Not everybody but most people use 175's or larger. It is going to take the right powder/bullet combination to really have consistancy at those ranges and there are not any Wal-Mart ammo that is going to do that for you. Black Hills makes some great loads. I would recommend above gun and set up. Buy a few boxes of Black Hills and see how you like it. If you do then get a press and some dies and start rolling your own. If you still love it pretty soon you will be ordering a McMillian or AICS stock. Truing the action. Slapping on a Kreiger, Bartlein, Lija, ect barrel. Bottom Metal, warning it is addicting. It really is cool to know you can hit targets at medium ranges consistanly with some practice reading the wind. Good luck with your search hope this helped.
  9. 9mm - WSF. It is what I have on hand. When that runs out I might try one off of this page. I do not find it to be dirty at all. I am shooting 115gr Remington FMJ's. I will be switching to some 147's when I run out of those. 40 S&W - 180gr JHP form Montana Gold. Started out using WSF and it was good, clean burning. I since got a hold of some VV N320 and it is a softer recoil as opposed to a sharper snap with the WSF so I have switched. It is more expensive and can be hard to find (even in good times) but I try to stock up and I am willing to pay the $100 - $200 more per year for the amount of shooting I do. 308 Win - I use Factory Winchester brass that I prep and WLR primers. For bolt guns I use Varget for anything from 155gr - 178gr. Another popular choice is RL-15 but people complain that it is temperature sensitive. For my M1A 41.5gr of IMR-4895 with a 168 SMK at magazine length. I load to 2.82" OAL That has been THE load for that gun for a while now.
  10. Congratulations Blake. 6th Production and 6th Limited.
  11. I am looking for Limited Specificly
  12. I would not want to go to a match making 167-168 anyway. Bump up your load atleast 0.1 I would do 0.2 grains and you should be good to go.
  13. It might not be the best scope for 3 gun but I like it. I think it would be bad azz for a hunting optic on an AR-15. I think you could have fun in Texas with some hogs.
  14. Let them land LOL. Or if it is private land and you have the time run a wire between 2 poles. I can still remember my dove hunts with my dad as a kid. We still do it now and again. We acutally planted about 25 acres in Milo, Millet, and Sunflowers this year. Too bad we had a 3 week drought that really put us behind on the crops. Dove season opens today for us as well but we do not plan to hunt the field for the first season because it is not mature. Might go see if they are in any plowed fields nearby. O yea and we put up some poles and a wire LOL you know for the senior dove hunters.
  15. I shoot the JHP out of an STI 5" and get great accuracy. I have never tired the FMJ/CMJ because I started with the JHP and see no reason to switch. IMO for a few dollars more $11/$6 respectively per 2500 I would just go with the JHP. I do not think you will be disappointed.
  16. I have to really tip my cap to Oregon for taking swift action. These pat on the wrist 1-2 game supsensions for ludicris actions are BS. It is about time someone stepped up and show the youth that look up to these players that YOU are responsible for YOUR actions and ther ARE consequences for idiotic behavior. If this guy was any good he just missed out on a nice payday next Feburary as well. I myself being from Louisiana LOVE LSU Football. I had to also tip my cap to Les Miles for kicking Ryan Perriloux off the team last year. Yes the team suffered at the QB postion and I feel would have won a few more games but that is not what NCAA sports are about.
  17. I originally purchased a Armalite AR-10A4C which is the 16" carbine version. The accuracy is reasonable but not quite what I wanted. Also to get the velocity up I wanted to get a longer barrel. So I decided to get a Noveske 21" upper. I added the stock, grip, and an Armalite NM trigger. It shoots Black Hills Gold GREAT. I recently purchased a Lower and LPK to put the 16" on so now I have 2. Any way here she is. I had the barrel coated black.
  18. 2 safety checks to try. This will determine if he has the trigger set dangerously light. First open and close the bolt to cock the firing mechanisim. With the gun on SAFETY pull the trigger. Then deactivate the safety and place the gun on FIRE if it trips bad news. Second with the gun on FIRE open and close the bolt HARD about a dozen times. If the gun trips BAD news. Either a sear engagement problem or too light of a trigger setting. My dad had a buddy who's gun went off one morning Elk hunting. They climbed a mountain in the twilight of early morning and upon reaching the park on top they got under a big tree with heavy snow all around. The branches were weighted by the snow almost touching the ground but it made a perfect tent. When Ed chambered a round with the gun on safety BANG right behind my dad. Lucky the gun was pointed up and all that insued was a doucing of snow falling on them from the branches and of course a nice ringer for a few hours in his ear. They took the gun apart that night at the camp and apparently there was some brass pieces in the trigger mechansim. Best they could see was someone might have got a "wrong shell" (.270) to go off in the gun while sighting it in. I think the gun was either a 300mag or 7mm. They said the brass looked to be bits of casing. Not sure this was several years back and I was not there but a close call. Good thing it was pointed in a safe direction. At the very least have a knowledgeable person or gun smith tear it down and inspect it.
