  1. If your press is smoking... I'd slow down your loading process! Ohhhhhhhh, you mean when you shoot em? Mine don't smoke too bad, shooting Solo 1000. Jeff
  2. I guess my "Insured by Smith and Wesson" sign gives me away... Also, my mail man HATES me... since 3000 147gr 9mm bullets will fit in one flat-rate box... HEAVY! Jeff
  3. I must be immune. I've been loading Moly (Precision Bullet, BBI, and Bear Creek) for almost a year, with no issues. But I typically only load about 200 at a sitting. I get dirty finger tips... that's it. Jeff
  4. I'd find a local printer, who can print some up on standard paper, then staple them to used targets.
  5. I LOVE October in Florida... Highs in the 80's, and dry. 70 at night, windows open, fans blowin'... Ahhhhh.... Good shootin' weather too! Jeff
  6. Sucks to draw turtles... The USPSA target is SOOOO much bigger! JW
  7. 'Nuf said. If you try it, you'll like it. www.pandora.com I'm buying a new radio for my truck, so I can plug in my iPhone, and listen to Pandora everywhere... Current Favorite "Channels": Blues Traveler Soundgarden Velvet Revolver Black Dog/Led-Zep What are your favorite "channels"? Jeff
  8. " But that's exactly what our sport requires. I'm sympathetic to the fact that we do need ranges. But we do not need ranges at the expense of our rule book. If your club wants the publicity of putting on USPSA matches, it must follow the rule book. It's not optional; they're not suggestions. " That's a nice idea... But for Level I matches, in urban areas, it is very infrequently practical. Many people do NOT have dedicated, free-shooting, 180 degree bermed, facilities to work with. If the only USPSA sanctioned club you have is an indoor club you're really limited. You cannot walk freely outside the shooting area with a holstered gun, even if it is unloaded. If you held a match on our outdoor public line, you'd have to modify the USPSA rules, or waiver the club rules. In urban areas, that get a LOT of usage, matches are NOT profitable. These places have people coming in and using a 3ft wide bay for $15-20, that will be used for 20-30 minutes, then replaced with another paying shooter. That's $50-60 per hour, times 10 bays.... No USPSA club is paying $400-500/hr to use the facility. The "publicity" of hosting USPSA/IDPA matches is a DROP in the ocean of their revenue from the "public line". More often, it's run at a loss. If a private club is NICE enough to ALLOW USPSA matches on their facility, we should obey their rules where we can. We cannot shoot a Level II or higher match there, but we can do what we can do. Thank god I shoot in St Pete, where we have a GOOD facility... We cannot shoot left or right in 5 of 7 bays, but it's a hell of a lot better than indoors, in a range. If I had to drive the 45 minutes each way to a true 180 degree-free-shoot facility... I'd shoot much less. Jeff
  9. Possible Solution: 1) Box it up 2) Take it to the hood 3) Sell it for big bucks 4) Use proceeds to buy a new M&P NOTICE: The proceeding comments where made in a poor attempt at comedy. I do not endorse this course of action...
  10. The ingenuity of some people simply amazes me... And the free time... Jeff
  11. My 16" DPMS shoots 1" all day with Walmart Federal Bulk pack 55gr.... Jeff
  12. This guy better see his gunsmith, I think his gun is doubling on him.... Jeff
  13. So clean... So simple... LOVE it... Some day when I'm rich! Jeff
  14. Thank you, to those who served. Thank you, to those who still do. We will not forget. JW
  15. If you shoot USPA/IDPA, and you HAVEN'T stapled a finger... SHAME ON YOU! Get off your lazy ___ and help set up stages!!! (Yes, I've done it... TWICE) Thank god my trigger finger is usually running the stapler... Jeff
  16. There are TWO types of "internal" motivation: Intrinsic Motivation: The motivation to simply participate for the joy/love of the game. Achievement Motivation: Synonymous with "Competitiveness". Some people enjoy USPSA/IDPA simply because they get to go do something fun/active with good people, get some exercise, and laugh and play with their favorite toys... GUNS! Some people cannot enjoy ANYTHING without making a contest out of it. They have to do everything faster, score higher, push farther... and without someone to compete against... there's no enjoyment, so there's no sense in even playing. The first guy doesn't care how well he scores, as long as he gets pretty good hits, and it FEELS good. The second guy secretly detests the first guy. Why even SHOOT if you're not competing? If he doesn't think he has a crack at winning his division, he won't even come to the match. He broods over stage setup, plots and counts every step between shooting positions, and swears under his breath at every Delta... A no-shoot can put him in a funk for at least 15 minutes. Most of us, thank god, are somewhere in between... JeffWard
  17. Now we're getting somewhere... Not on the History Channel, but how about VS, or the Outdoor Channel. Invite Only: National level shooters from IPSC, Sporting Clays, Bianchi, High Power, Bullseye, Trap, Skeet, Archery, and rimfire events... If you finished top-3, at Nationals, in the past 2 years, you're invited. Equipment Sponsors: Equally prepared IPSC Limited Gun from STI, Benelli Shotguns, S&W Rimfire Pistols, DPMS ARs, etc... Each competitor shoots each discipline and throws out their worst finish... Top-Shot is crowned! Who's getting it started??? Jeff
  18. I would agree with 90% of what just said... Especially Point #2... And I'm a Trainer! Most of them suck at anything outside bodybuilding. "Olympic Lifting" is the great grandfather of many of the explosive advanced power techniques no do in the pro sthlete environment, but it IS the foundation. Now, it's done unilaterally (one hand), and destabilized (on wobble boards, balls, BOSUs, planks, etc. Vision??? I'd agree with "Advanced Proprioceptive Training", involving spatial perception, orientation, and muscle control. Which allows an athlete to make corrections while moving, or in an awkward position, to stabilize as if still... Shooting on the move is the perfect example. This takes training. Vision is only one small part. JeffWard
  19. I went the other route, and started with a DPMS Sporticle. I have about $1400 in mine, but that includes 2 optics (Millett DMS, and an EoTech) Mikulek Comp DPMS Freefloat Handguard (Custom Milled) Low-Pro Gas Block JP-Adjustable Trigger Magpul CTR Stock Magpul MIAD Grip I have a box full of worthless parts... unless I buy a new stripped lower... and start on Number 2... Jeff
  20. I've seen almost every zombie movie ever made... and since there have yet to be any terminal ballistics testing done on ACTUAL zombies... I'd have to agree. VOLUME of fire IS an issue (where there's one, there's a hundred), and head-shots are mandatory, so I'll take a good AR-15 Carbine (Mine is 1 MOA accurate with Wally-World 55gr), and a truck load of P-Mags full... I'd hate to have to haul around 2000-3000 rounds of 308... Re penetration... Zombie can't drive... Jeff
  21. I've been trying to load some "defensive" velocity practice loads with some old 125gr Zero JHPs I have around. I loaded 4.2 gr because it was "more" than my 3.5gr load for 147gr lead... SOFT. Then I read here... 4.5gr barely made Minor... To get up to defensive velocities of 120fps with a 125gr bullet... I don't think solo will get there!!! No pressure signs as high as 4.8gr. M&P9 COMPACT 3" barrel at 90 degrees in FL. Jeff
  22. I run a 13# ISMI "Glock" spring in my 5" M&P. It's the same damn spring... Gun runs great, with virtually no flip. I shoot 147gr bullets around 135PF. JeffWard
  23. I got bored and burned out shooting Production after 16-18 months of 1-3 matches per WEEK.. Honestly, I wanted a boost in the level of competition, because I'd stopped improving shooting in Production Div. I don't have the funds to go with a S_I style Limited gun, so I slapped an Arredondo +5 extension on one of my M&P mags (factory spring), and decided to go play Limited (Minor) for a few weeks. The "Thing I Noticed"? I'm shooting HIGHER in the "overall" scoring shooting Limited than I was when shooting Production... Why? 1) Crappy missed reloads were costing me time. Now I can reload once, where I WANT to, not where I HAVE to. 2) Shooting against better shooters is making ME better. Same as when I played competitive golf, and basketball. 3) Shooting Minor doesn't hurt you much... as long as you're shooting Alphas fast! 4) Rob Leatham's "goofy" advice works... Paraphrasing: "DON'T shoot sloppy, and DON'T shoot slowly." You don't have to be super-precise, nor super-fast... Even shooting minor... The M and GM Limited shooters are STILL beating me... but (at B-Class Production) I'm holding my own against the As and Bs in Limited, who are all shooting 2011s worth twice what my M&P is! Feels good... Jeff
