I was given an old metal keg of the stuff. Must be 25#s that an old member of the club left when he died last year. (he left all of his components to the club). I hope I can put it to good use with my pistol loads. Gosh it would be great if it would be good for 9 mm so I could use it for HK SG! I'd be interested to know like you if any forum member has info on it...CS
  2. Saw this older thread and had to add a plus 1 for Accurail. About a year ago I went of the deep end and decided to take an older vintage Colt and sent it to Ron Phillips and he suggested Accu rail...after an engraving trip to Mr. French it came back and I was amazeed at how well the accurail works!! It took me 2 days before I broke down and shot the gun (ha) but accurail gives it a different feel then any other 1911 I have shot and the accuracy is outstanding...5 stars
  3. Thanks bdpaz and others for the helpful post. It has defiantely changed my thinking. I will go with the heavier fmj and mid range powder. lots of good feedback! C
  4. 115 gr Berrys with 4.2 of TG shoots 1" groups at 25 yds in a Ransom out of one of my Les Baer Kart barrels. I nearly fell out of my chair. I've been shooting expensive Hornady XTP, etc. for accuracy (still do for consistency) but I can't bad mouth Berrys like I use to... PS- I wait until Cabella's has a sale and then I load up on them. I think they sell them at a loss as a teaser item. Sometimes if the order is big enough they will knock of even more if you email their "Quote" address..C
  5. Sorry...I just saw the Power Pistol. What is the reason to go to 147's?
  6. This is some good input. I don't see why you are getting sonic cracks? With ammo at 1100 fps it is subsonic by the time it goes out the end of barrel. I guess I will find out. I had not thought of using 147's in a SG. What powder are you using? I'm sold on Montanna Gold so that is where they will come from. Appreciate the comments about cleaning. I have not shot enough through it to experience that end of things yet. Also the point about TG is a good one. I couldn't imagine how hot that would get the barrrel!! Thanks for he help here...
  7. I like Duane and Doug's comments. I only load for accuracy as I only compete with myself and a few friends. Lately 9 mm is where I have been experimenting and am learning alot. I love my Les Baers and am convinced the tight fitting Les gives the kart barrels is one reason for the accuracy of his guns. (Although he has loosened them up some due to the complaints of newbies who do not yet understand the breaking in process of the slide fit...I was a newbie once)Some of my Wilsons shoot well and a couple of custom built Bulls eye guns by Ron Phillips are "lights out". My goal are guns that shoot 1" at 25 yds and 1.5 at 50 yds. out of a Ransom rest..Most of the guns mentioned will do the 25 and only a couple the 50. So far I am gettting my accuracy without a lot of velocity. Shooting a 45 acp with a 230 gr. fmj anything over a big load of Tight Group is not fun to me although it might be to others...I like the Topic!! C
  8. 231/HP-38?....I thought the Laser Cast might work well because they are hard and then I would switch to FMJ with can. Any idea who sells the cheapest fmj in bulk? Got to be something cheaper then MG, Precision Delta, etc. I've never looked but does Remington or Winchester or Federal (American Eagle) sell their fmj bullets in bulk cheaper?
  9. I finally got my first sub gun in 9 mm. and need to develop a load for it. As I will be shooting with a can most of the time I will need to shoot plated (cheapest) bullets. Does anyone have any load ammo they have run through their MP-5 that might help me? Idealy would be one load with Laser Cast 9lead) and another with a plated bullet....I guess I could use any of my pistol loads but don't know about feeding issues, etc. I played with search for 15 minutes without succes so if there is already a post that you can reffer me to that would be great too. This topic has to have come up before- Thanks
  10. Good idea on the pictures! The 1050 the rep had looked like he drilled and tapped a fitting centered in the front...I am sure any of you from Va. have seen him at the gun shows. He is also a commercial reloader out of Va. Beach. If I could remember his name I would mention it...maybe I will track him down and see what he did...He has been at the reloading business a long time...C you wouldn't be referring to terry mcmanuels of Mac's reloading, would you? He's the one!! Seems to know his stuff and is always well stocked... -jaredr
  11. Use your barrel as a case guage and drop round in. Brass should be flush with or slightly below flush. I shoot Berrys in Lone Wolf barrel all the time with no problem. I find TG which is a real fast powder to work well with Berrys 115 and 124. Just make sure you do not get a "double"...You probably know all this but if it helps..it helps..C in Dublin, Va.

  12. Thanks Sarge, I ordered mine from Snap On and did talk to Mikle Dillon about it. Thumbs up and thanks for help.
  13. Sarge- I will have to check them out for the holes. I do not recall seeing any holes at all...C

  15. I used search until an hour went by reading post and then decided to post my own. I am a pencil pusher and not mechanically minded! At the last gun show I noticed the Dillon "rep" had grease fittings in the front (base) of a S1050 on display. He was busy with a line of customers and I could not talk to him so I started looking in the lubrication post of this forum and saw constant references to Zerk Grease fittings? Can I install these in my 2 S1050's? I always clean my machines every 10 to 15k but have never wanted to try and break it down to the point of greasing the innards as I was afraid I would never get it back together again. I always wondered why Dillon had no grease fittings to make the job easier? What are your experiences and/or fixes to greasing the insides and are the Zerks easy to install and worth it? Thanks for any help- CS in VA
  16. I would be embarresed to tell you how many semi and full custom 1911's I have....I think you could not go wrong with the Premier II from Baer. It's the one I pull out of the vault(s) first. Another option would be to call Ron Phillips and tell him what your budget is. I have sent him several used 1911's I bought cheap used and had him make Bullseye guns for me...Have fun...C
  17. No lead through the can so I guess I will load the cheapest plated I can find. I think there is a local manufacturer around here somewhere...unless someone has another idea....
  18. I wonder if thick is neccesarily (sp)better? Thanks for the great pictures....
  19. I've had great success with Laser Cast bullets and love to shoot them. My Baer 1911's all have Kart barrels and shoot them as accurate as anything I can find. I am an accuracy nut so guys shooting steel, etc. might not care about the accuracy Laser Cast can give or they shoot fmj with a combo that works for them. If you get them tuned to your gun I think you will be suprised how well they shoot. I saw they went up $5.00 per 1k but if you buy 5k, you get another 1,000 for free and price includes shipping...Good luck...
  20. I am going to try what a bunch of guys around here are doing. They back tracked the lead bullets the local retailer was selling to a small town not far away. they do group buys and drive directly to the maker and fill up the back of a truck with no shipping and a discount for their own containers...doesn,t get any cheaper then that. I think Sweeney started the idea in his 1911 books...
  21. I checked and slide to frame fit is fine for combat accuracy. I run a fail Zero bolt in my AR with no problems and am a believer. I have Ron Phillips building me a 1911 Bullseye gun now which he is going to send to Robar for the NP3 finish which I thought was the same. I know Robbie has the rights for gun applications. I also have sent him a Glock. He can take any gun and coat the internals, slide, etc.Check out the Robar site...
  22. I spoke to the Owner of Mr. Bulletfeeder (Rick) today and there is no problem running Laser Cast through it. He had a list of potential fixes for softer lead including using an oversized die which he provides. I only shoot Laser Cast in lead so it is no problem for me. I just want it on a 1050 I have set up for 9 mm. I hate dealing with those little bullets....I would give him a call about lead bullets and see if it makes sense for you to try. My only dislike is giving up the powder ck. There is a way around that also but not one I like. I think he said it was using a seting crimp die on the last station....C
  23. Welcome Don, you are in the right place! Experiment with the Search option and you will find that it might be your best friend down the road! CS in Va.
  24. I love my Case Pro and roll all my brass. I noted some years ago that Sweeney wrote in his first 1911 book that the Case Pro would also tighten the primer pockets. Does anyone de prime their brass before running through the Case Pro? Actually I hope not because that would add a lot of time to the process....CS
