  1. Thanks for the starting point. I was given 1k of the 9mm and .38 Laser cast, so I thought I'd use them. I agree that I would most likely go with jacketed next time. I'll work up a few loads and give them a try. Just going out to the shop now. Thanks again and I'll report back on the chrono session. M
  2. Right now I would like to make minor PF. I have my 40 S&W Para P16 for my entry into the competition. The G19 is typically for carry and fun. The fun side of it is why I am starting to reload as I do go through many during plinking! I'll start the .40 reloading in a couple weeks once the supplies arrive. From what you are speaking of, this is not unusual with certain combos of guns and bullet style. I believe I'll start at 3.8 and work up to 4.0, maybe 20 each and run them through the chrono and visual as a starting point.
  3. Hi all, I have been working on getting a good OAL using 115gr Laser cast RN in a G19 and KKM match barrel. As I have seen in a couple other postings, the OAL has to be quite short, in my opinion, to seat the case and clear the rifleing. My best OAL is 1.0885 and seems that the bullet is seated about .21". It seats just at the end of the shoulder of the bullet, just before the taper begins. I also understand that as a bullet is seated further, causing a shorter OAL, the case pressures grow. My initial load is going to be 4.0 gr of 231 and I am going on the following data: 115 GR. LRN, Winchester 231 Max OAL:1.100" Load Min: 4.3 FPS: 1079 28,400 CUP Load Max:4.8 1135 FPS 32,000 CUP , but with the short OAL (although it is only .0115 under MAX OAL) I am not willing to move forward without a little advice. I guess the major question is, is this OAL too short and can it become dangerous? I do have a chrono for final testing, but don't want to tempt fate right off the bat! thanks in advance for any thoughts or assistance. Mark
  4. Hi all, I have enjoyed reading the postings here and feel that the advice is so much more sound than what you get from the typical blog. I have just acquired a Para P16-40 with the speed holster and 16 double-stack mags for a real good price. The Para has been 'rebuilt' by a well known gunsmith in the Phoenix area and I am read to start practicing. I need to reload and have read many different philosophies on the subject. I am hoping to get only 20 or so to wade through! It sounds to me like the 180gr bullet is the 'popular' one to start with and load it for a power factor of 170 or so. My issues are these: What is the popular or suggest bullet style/mfg and any recommendation on powder or load data? Easy! I am looking forward to getting into my first matches when I move to Prescott, AZ next April from the southern AZ desert. Any help would be appreciated. Mark
