  1. Also weighed both pistols with empty magazine on a high end scale at work today. Tanfo Stock 3: 46.02 oz CZ Shadow 2: 46.54 oz
  2. Yes, that is correct. The S2 circumference is a tad smaller. Here are two pics showing my hand on each. Notice the thumb to finger relationship.
  3. Hello everyone, I wanted to send out a quick update on my original post. I ended up buying a Shadow 2 and was able to get it to the range for its first work out during my lunch hour. I brought along my Stock 3 for comparisons. Only was able to shoot a round of Dot Torture and some distance drills with both guns to compare perceived recoil as well as how both sights return to target and timing on each. The Stock 3 gun feels a tad better in my hand. I wear a large size glove and its a large frame gun. The CZ feels just slightly smaller and the blackstrap of the grip is contoured just a tad different than the Stock 3. When shooting they both feel the same though. The new checkering on the front and back of the grip on the S2 are very well done. Much better quality than the Tanfo's similar checkering. The S2 has a tighter slide to frame feel to it than my S3 but that could be due to it being new and my Stock 3 having almost 2000 rounds through it. I put 85 rounds through the gun today shooting 135g Blue Bullets over 3.2g of PrimaV. This load makes 130 PF out of my Stock 3 so not sure what the Shadow 2 does yet. Maybe next range trip I'll bring the chrono. As far as perceived recoil goes, I'd say in my opinion, the Stock 3 was just ever so slightly less in felt recoil than the Shadow 2. I fired freestyle, strong, and weak hand to verify this observation. Both guns recoiled up and torqued to the right slightly in about the same manor when shooting. Also, both guns sights seemed to return about the same on target for me with the S2's slide having a bit more velocity than the Stock 3. If I didn't have both guns on hand today I wouldn't have noticed the differences. The only thing I've done to the S3 is replace the main spring with a 11.5lb. Recoil spring and everything else is as stock. I must say I'm actually impressed with its trigger! Pull is butter smooth and the DA is averaging 7lb .4oz and SA is averaging 3lb .4oz. I'd like the DA to be a bit lighter but I am totally happy with the crispness and weight of the SA. Hardly any creep and short reset. I actually like it as much as my Stock 3 that has had every PD spring installed, bolo, and Titan hammer plus full polishing on all friction points. Compared to my old CZ SP01 Shadow, that needed a lot of polishing and trigger upgrades to get rid of the grit and pull where I wanted it, this new S2 is miles ahead for a new gun. I would agree that in this guns case, it truly is about ready for competition right out of the box at least for my shooting style. Well done CZ!
  4. Great job man! It takes a lot of time to put these videos together and it will truly help everyone setting up these guns for the first time. I learned a couple of cool ideas like using the Glock tool that I hadn't seen yet in my experience working on these guns. Thanks for putting in the effort, its very much appreciated!
  5. Hello everyone, I am kicking the tire on buying at Shadow 2 and already have a Tanfo Stock 3. For those out there who have shot or owned both now, could you describe how they compare? Looking for your honest feedback as far as all handling characteristics. I'm not worried about trigger differences, I'm familiar with both having owned a original Shadow and will perform a trigger job to the new Shadow 2 if needed if I end up picking one up. In the end, if I buy both, I'll probably get rid of one but if there isn't much difference between them to start with, then I will probably stick with the Tanfo since its already tweaked to my liking. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
  6. Fantastic! I couldn't find the thread size on McMaster. Must be I didn't try hard enough. Thanks for the link! found these on Amazon but they are flat heads with a countersink. Probably would still work ok. Might get some to try.
  7. Was cleaning my S3 tonight and snapped the head off of the grip screw with very little effort. I know I can buy the same replacement pair from Stoeger or PD but I'm hoping to find an off the shelf fastener that will have a higher tensile strength. I work with delicate small fasteners daily and I know I didn't overtorque it initially. I've had them on and off the gun about six times. I'm thinking that I either had a bad screw or the stock Xtreme ones that came with my E.G. Grips aren't very strong. The cross section of the screw at the sheared portion has a really thin wall from the exterior threaded portion to the bottom of the torx recess. Does anyone know the thread size and pitch for these Tanfos? Thanks in advance!
  8. I would suspect Delrin for its elasticity or some form of glass filled nylon for the rigidity. Depends on the requirements for the rod. But can't be sure. There are so many flavors of polymer suitable. Have you you been able to shoot your gun with your new guide rod? If so, how is it wearing?
  9. Looks great! I modeled one up today in CAD and am going to turn one out of Nylon 6/6 with 43% glass fill for strength and rigidity. I was also surprised how heavy the stock one was. I'm on the hunt to get my Stock 3 to make weight for IDPA. I'm starting with a polymer guide rod and also making some grips on our 3D printer. Currently my S3 weighs 45.3 ounces weighed on a calibrated high end scale at work. Figure between the grip and guide rod reduction I'll be just over 43 oz with the mag inserted. Might mill a .5x2.5x.2" deep slot in the front of the frame to get it just under the limit. Time will tell.
  10. Looks real sharp! What Cerakote color is the frame? I'm thinking about redoing my Stock 3 in Cerakote and usually use Graphite Black but might change it up for this one.
  11. Was able to hit the range today to chrono the 165 loads. Specs: Tanfoglio Lim Pro 4.75" barrel in 40 S&W. with 10lb recoil spring. 65 F Ambient temp. Load: 165g Blue Bullet, 3.5g Prima V, 1.145 COL, Federal 100 small pistol primers, range brass. All loaded on Single stage press but powder charges were thrown with my Dillon 650 (don't have 40 conversion kit yet.) Chrono: CED M2 standard screens. No need for infrared today. Fired pistol exactly 5' from start screen. Fired 10 rounds in succession with the following results. 799.1 790.2 817.6 819.8 802.3 804.9 831.1 810.4 783.2 816.5 Average: 808 Low: 783 High: 831 Power factor based on average : 133 The spread was more than I had anticipated but it is probably because this is on the low end of the charge spectrum based on the PF. So far, these loads "feel" softer than my 135g 9mm loads and accuracy is very good out to 25 yds. I think I've got a winner!
  12. I also started playing with Prima V but loading for minor. I found that my Tanfoglio Lim Pro likes 165g Blue Bullets under 3.5-3.6g of Prima V. Haven't chronod it yet but my brass is landing 4-5 ft away and recoil impulse is almost as soft as my competition 9mm load. Very happy with this setup.
  13. I ended up settling for a 40 cal. I searched high and low and hit up all the major internet shops I could find. None to be found. Ben stoeger shop said they hoped to have more in stock shortly but didn't have an exact lead time.
  14. Well quick update on my project... Ended up buying the Limited Pro 40 due to the great price and spent the better part of Friday night polishing all the necessary parts, holes, etc. and installing Xtreme sear, Titan hammer, PD 14lb hammer spring, Bolo, reduced power sear and trigger springs, and improved PD firing pin and spring. With all the mods, I ended up with a trigger very comparable to my Stock 3. Original DA averaged over 12 lbs / SA averaged 5.5lbs. After the polishing and component installation I'm right at 5lb 8oz DA / 3lb 3oz SA. On top of that I put the stock S3 9mm recoil spring in place of the stock recoil spring to handle 40 minor loads. Finished off the build for now with Scales grips to bring it into the weight restriction for IDPA. To start for a load, I assembled 165g Blue Bullets under 3.5g Prima V and Fed100 primers. Overall length was right at 1.145". This chamber wasn't cut as short as my S3 which was a good finding. Took it to the range today during my lunch hour to compare to the S3 as far as "noticed" recoil and how flat the slide reacted to recoil. 9mm loads are 135 Blue Bullet Ambient temps were 43F. I was blown away with how there was almost no noticeable difference in the perceived recoil impulse between the 9mm loads I run in my S3 and the new 40 loads I worked up for this Lim Pro! Sights seemed to track the same and my overall and split times on my targets from 5 - 25 yds were negligible . Accuracy was on par with the 9mm loads and acceptable for the ranges I'll be shooting this gun at. Finally, I swapped the S3 9mm upper onto this Lim Pro lower and shot it back and forth between the two uppers to verify recoil and shoot ability. Again, I was surprised that the 9mm was only slightly less on "perceived" recoil. If I didn't have them side by side, I'd never notice the difference. To sum it up - I'm pretty happy with the initial results. I still have to run transition drills and change out the front sight to a fiber optic and get rid of the huge safety lever and maybe play with some other recoil springs but other than that i'm feeling pretty much there... My personal best option would have been to find a 9mm version but at least this will enable me to shoot multiple disciplines with the same gun with either 40 minor or major. Anyone interested in my lightly used S3 with all the said upgrades listed above? I need to fund my Dillon 650 40 cal change over stuff now... Thanks to everyone that contributes to this forum! All of your time spent with detailed how to's and trials and errors really make turning these Tanfo's into something really enjoyable to shoot!
  15. Also interested to see if anyone has load data for 165 minor with Prima V? I've been using it for my 135 and 147 9mm loads and really like how clean it shoots plus it's just as soft if not a tad softer than TG.
  16. I figured I would shoot in ESP anyway with the S3 upper on the Lim Pro lower. That would be legal right for IDPA? At the end of the day, I'll probably keep which gun I enjoy more and if it's the Stock 3 then I'll go back to shooting the evil G34 in IDPA. Time will tell...
  17. Thought just arose, I could probably use my S3 top end on a Lim Pro lower right? It wouldn't be the prettiest but they both have the same length uppers from the factory I believe. Or am I missing something...Then I could use the 40 top end for major if I ever shoot other disciplines that separate the calibers...
  18. Thanks guys for your quick replies! I've checked Buds, Ben Stoeger, Oakhill, and Patriot Def. None have any 9mm's in stock. I've got my FFL all lined up! Just need to find a source then for either a 9mm top end or the entire gun... I've got all the upgrades waiting to go in this new gun already to make it feel similar to my S3. Bolo, Titan, Xtreme sear, ext. fpb, springs, polish compound etc...
  19. Hello everyone, I've been searching for a Limited Pro in 9mm to compliment my love for my Stock 3 but enable me to use in IDPA. I've looked high and low and cannot find one but have a lead on a 40 for a good price. What's needed to convert the 40 to 9mm if I decide to go that route? Will simply buying a limited pro 9mm barrel work? Or is the breach face different between the 40 slide and the 9mm? If just a barrel is needed, where do I go about finding a barrel for sale? Also, is the sear cage the same between the two models? I know on Glocks the trigger housing needs to usually be changed out to be caliber specific for the ejector to work properly. Is this the same case with the Tanfoglio lines? Is there anything else I'm missing? Or if you are looking to sell your Limited Pro let me know! I'm not opposed to buying a used but in good condition one either for the right price. Tanfoglios are rather new to me coming from the Glock side of shooting so sorry for the questions but thanks for any help!
  20. I have an older style analog counter similar to the one you posted except mine has the thru hole mount that the die goes through and clamps down on when tightened. It was a royal pain to adjust on the crimp die station and is hard to see with the bullet feeder installed so I'm thinking about removing it. Would like to go to a IR style that detects the rounds as they eject from the shell plate into the bin but don't want to break the bank on the cost also.
  21. Thanks for the link, I'll take a look. Great mod again op!
  22. Great project and well done! I've been looking into doing something similar to my 650 but would like to use an old iPhone as the monitor. Anyone know of or use a wifi or Bluetooth camera that would be compatible? I'd like to use the phone instead of dishing out more $ for a monitor.
  23. Sorry for the late response. In that particular gun, sprayed it with Graphite Black Cerakote after alum oxide. I left the inner magwell portion hard anodized and taped it off for spraying to retain its durability.
  24. Anyone know what spring comes stock in a standard CZ SP01 Shadow? Not the custom version? I run that and it feels perfect with my 130PF loads.
