  1. Installed the CZC comp wide hammer this evening. After fitting the sear to allow the safety to engage, it was good to go. Trigger pull weight stayed the same but the break has zero creep now. Feels very similar to my 1911 Trojan trigger. Very satisfied with the results. Thanks for everyone's comments here in helping me decide to go this route.
  2. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am comfortable performing 1911 trigger upgrades, my last project was re profiling the sear with a true radius and stoning the hammer hooks down to .018". That produced a smooth and repeatable 2lb trigger in my Trojan. Anyway, I understand the low case hardness of the CZ sear so I will not be stoning that at all. The stock hammer that came in my Shadow has what appears (didn't measure) hammer hooks that are in between stock and competition as far as height goes. So I'll try the CZC wide hammer and see where that lands me. I don't want the trigger any lighter than what it is now for IDPA. I just want to make it a tad crisper by reducing the creep before break for the longer shots.
  3. Holster is home made. I do kydex holsters as a side business. Typically, each pistol I buy, one of the first things I do is build a holster for it using the actual gun as the mold.
  4. This is my first CZ...Just picked up a SP01 Shadow a few weeks ago and have put 1000 rounds through it with no issues. Gun is a solid shooter with very soft recoil. About 500 rounds ago, I upgraded the trigger components with CGW 11.5lb main spring, Type 1 disconnector, ext. firing pin kit, free float trigger pin, and trigger spring. After polishing the internals from the very helpful resources here my DA pull is averaging 6lb 10oz and SA is averaging 2lb 10 oz with my Lyman digital scale. I'm very happy with the results but still want to reduce the creep before break a tad more. Looking carefully at the stock hammer, I can see it cams ever so slightly before the sear lets loose. I've spoken with Dave from CGW regarding his hammer and adjustable sear and it appears as its cut narrow to fit all CZ models. Whereas, the CZC hammer comes in wider width for pre B models like my Shadow. So to you experts out there, which hammer do you recommend? Will the narrower sear / hammer combo from CGW fit my Shadow properly in that both components are narrower? I've read several posts regarding each of these hammers but it didn't totally clear up my thoughts. Also, want to shoot this mainly in IDPA SSP/ ESP - not sure if the CGW hammer is legal as its not production. Thoughts, comments?... What post is complete without some eye candy!
  5. I recently tried SNS 147 poly coated bullets with 3.2 grains of Titegroup in my new Gen4 G17. I've never had so much lead after 100 rounds in a barrel! I tried a few different powders with a slower burn and ended up finding that Promo powder works great. Zero leading in the factory barrel and hardly any soot and hardly any smoke. It's going to be my new competition load as its clean shooting and much cheaper than the jacketed bullets I'm used to. Plus it's proving to be as accurate or slightly better than my old standbys of Montana Gold and Titegroup combo.
  6. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I tried loading some last evening with the Clays I have left. I found that at least in my Trojan, when loading, they would nose dive hard into the feed ramp of the barrel and actually setback the bullet by .01-.02"! I adjusted the taper crimp and it helped but still had setback. My COL of the initial loads was 1.130. I updated the COL to 1.160 and the nose diving was reduced slightly but this is as long as I can fit in my Cobra mags. The originals I tried were 3.2g Titegroup. They smoked badly and leaded the Trojan barrel. Didn't even try them in my Glock. So I figured it was the powder that was burning too hot. That's why I wanted to try a cooler, slower burning powder to reduce both smoke and leading. I pulled a few samples with my puller and the coating was still in tact with no tearing of the coating. So I believe my settings on my Dillon 650 are good to go. Perhaps my Glocks won't have the nose dive issue since the bullet is closer and more in line to the chamber when its loading vs the Trojan. But I may have to look into an alternate style bullet that has more of a traditional round tip. MG 147 bullets feed fine in both my Glocks and my Trojan but their flat point is much smaller in diameter and the ogive seems more rounded vs the SNS bullets also.
  7. Hello, with the powder shortages, I'm wondering which powder you all would recommend for SNS 147g coated flat point bullets. I have a surplus of Titegroup but I found that it leaded my barrel pretty good in my STI Trojan and I want to use these bullets in my Glocks. So I have a pound of Clays, Unniversal Clays, Unique, Promo, and Blue Dot on hand. Just looking for some advice from those who've tried one of the powders I've listed. Can't find any of the other popular ones locally or online right now. These loads must be just above minor 125 power factor as I'll be using them in IDPA mostly. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  8. I just received mine from Dawson Monday. I ordered from their web page last week. It has the updated screw location. I purchased a spare but don't need it. If you are interested pm me and we can work out the details. Price would be what I for it.
  9. So far so good. The seller wrote me back immediately and said that he would send out a replacement slide today. He was apologetic and wants to make sure I'm happy with the purchase. We will see but I'm happy with his service so far. Hopefully it works out.
  10. hopefully he will be good to work with, he had great communication so we will see! Thanks again for your feeback John,
  11. looks like I got dooped then...I'll contact the seller and see where we can go with it. Thanks for the heads up!
  12. I was wondering that too. Any way to tell if the slide is for a 45 or 9mm? is there any markings or stamp that should tell the model? Is the breech face the same or different between caliber? I would think that they should be different... Thanks,
  13. So I purchased a 9mm conversion kit for my new 45 Limited Pro. The slide is from a Match model and has adjustable rear sight but not hte same as my Limited model. I took it to the range yesterday, and I fired one round from a full magazine and the spent casing was stuck in the chamber but didn't eject. I took the slide assembly off and found that the extractor doesn't even touch the rim of the case. It doesn't hold back a 40 either. But a 45 casing is help properly by the extractor. So I'm wondering if the extractor is the wrong one for this conversion kit? I assume they would be different for the alternate calibers? I bought it new from a Gunbroker dealer and wonder if I should call the dealer I bought it from or just go straight to EAA. Or is it something else that I'm not thinking about? Thanks for any advice!
  14. Anyone have a set of gold team or aluminum factory grips they want to part with? I'm looking to replace the factory wood grips on my Limited Pro. Let me know and thanks I'm advance! Edit: never mind. It appears as though the Gold Team grips are too short for my model. Does the factory offer the same style grips for the non magwell models such as the limited pro? I'd even be interested in a EG or Henning set used if ya want to part with them. Thanks!
  15. Hello everyone, I am new to the Tanfoglio platform and I just took my new Limited Pro 45 ACP to the range today to give it an honest assessment. I shot standard plate rack at 10 and 30 yds to see how the gun runs and compare it to my other main pistols I run in IDPA. I ran a mix of ammo through it including 50 American Eagle 230 FMJ's, 53 230g FMJ reloads, and 30 old 200g LSWC I had laying around since my old 1911 45 days. It ate everything I fed it and accuracy was dead on! I didn't come into this expecting much as I wasn't overly excited about this gun for some reason but wanted to see what the hype was about after reading so much of these and other CZ style guns. But when I was finished at the range, I noticed that my times and accuracy were in line with my 9mm STI Trojan that I shoot mainly in IDPA. I also noticed a lack of recoil and how the gun just seemed to sit still while transitioning from target to target, all I had to do was press the trigger and the gun seemed to fall into doing the rest. I do have one issue that I will be addressing soon. Thanks to the help of a few on this forum and tons of reading, I am going to convert this gun over to SAO and shoot it in CDP and ESP for IDPA. The stock trigger in DA is very heavy but not gritty. It maxed out my digital trigger scale! The SA breaks crisp and consistently at 5.7lb. I would like to drop this to 2.5 - 3 lbs. With that said, Does anyone have a spare SA style trigger laying around they wouldn't mind parting with? I can either buy it outright or trade for my DA/SA trigger and disconnect. I may end up doing the Henning trigger to this gun but I want to keep the cost down for now and I think I can get close to my goal for the poundage with some polishing, stoning the sear, hammer, and spring changes along with the flatter profile SA trigger. Thanks in advance! Some pics of the new rig: Compared to my Trojan 9mm:
  16. My Versa Max Tactical had a replacement barrel sent to me because the factory one that shipped originally with the shotgun was bent. My shotgun starting having intermittent issues were the next shell would go into battery but wouldn't fire when the trigger was pulled, the symptoms seemed like hammer follow so Remington replaced the trigger group. But that didn't fix the problem. I couldn't figure it out until I traded my barrel with another and all my problems went away. Turns out, the barrel extension lug recesses weren't machined to correct tolerance. This meant that the bolt wouldn't lock into battery every time when cycled but when the trigger was pulled, it would hit the rear of the bolt carrier and bump the bolt into full lock up. As a result of the hammer hitting the carrier, the firing pin wasn't being hit by the hammer therefore it wouldn't ignite the primer of the fed shell. The weird part is that your problem just started so it most likely isn't the same problem as I have unless your locking lugs are full of debris like kurtm said. Good luck!
  17. FYI - I just purchased a new L9A1 from a dealer that stocks the model with 10 round magazines. I live in NY state and had to go that route, I ended up buying an extra two mags to total 4 for use in IDPA. If you would like details on the dealer PM me and I will provide his contact info.
  18. I remember having this issue with one of my Saiga AGP magazines back when I was running one. All I did to fix it from happening again was to bend the side tabs in a bit to make them clamp tighter to the sides of the magazines. Also, make sure the plastic dimples that the feed lips secure to are free of burrs from the mold process. If I remember correctly, I had to dress them a bit to make nice clean sharp sides of the dimples. Once I did this, the feed lips never moved again. My factory five round magazine did the same thing straight from the factory also.
  19. I only own a Tactical model but from what I've read and felt in the local stores, the other difference in the Sportsman model is the lack of the rubber over molded inserts in the foregrip and the lack of a replaceable cheek pad on the stock. Also lacks the fiber optic front sight and has a simple white bead. Action and rest of trigger mechanism should be the same and interchangeable. I wouldn't let the lack of the coating on the guns internals sway me away from the cost savings if I was in the market for a Versamax.
  20. Open gun looks great! Any pics of your shotty? I've been thinking of doing my VersaMax Tactical in the same color.
  21. I'm not aware of any aftermarket hammers but a Benelli M2 hammer is a direct drop in. My hammer had the same dents which typically won't affect the reliability of the gun but my hammer also had a chunk of material that tore away from the disconnector locking tab. The Benelli hammer has dented also but not to the same extent. My shotgun has 3000 shells down range and I replaced the hammer about a thousand rounds ago.
  22. DP skate tape. Thanks for the comments on the color. It is unique. I think Cerakote is offering this blend now but I haven't checked their website in a while.
  23. When I ran a Saiga 12, it was 18" from the factory. I had to drill the three holes (or 4 depending on vintage) out slightly larger (.090") I believe to get it to function 100% with light target loads. I also added a magwell and it was wicked fast on reloads. Loved the gun but didn't want to shoot open so I sold it and picked up a VersaMax... As noted, Saiga-12.com is an awesome place for all the info you could ever need on the Saiga platforms. Good Luck! This was mine before I sold it - recoil was very light even with slugs with the Russian brake attached.
