  1. Interesting thread! I would have thought this is a bad idea, and that we need to practice using the same target we'll face in competition, but I'm going to reconsider. What's it like to go from a well delineated taret to a plain target? Don't your eyes miss the outline, X, or contrasting colors?
  2. Amen on the Blantons! I have a friend who gives me a bottle each Derby day. THAT'S a friend!
  3. >>Would you say the 23 is 100$ better than the 20?<< They're different. The 20 yr old is what you pull out when you have a friend over who appreciates fine bourbon. The 23 yr old is what you break out to toast your brother on the birth of his first child. Since you're obviously a bourbon lover, you should try a bottle of each. You'll get your money's worth.
  4. I can sometimes find the 20 yr for $75-90. I have a half bottle of the 23 yr from 2007 thats waiting for an event to justify the rest of the creme de la creme. I prefer the 20 yr old neat, but the 23 yr old really opens up with just a drop or two of water. A friend of mine says its best with an ice cube, but I'm not really sure who his Momma's people are, so take that with a grain of salt.
  5. You do live in the Holy Land! 90% of the bourbons I have were distilled within 100 miles of your home!
  6. Nice collection! If you really want to savor the best of the best, let me recommend Pappy Van Winkle's 20 yr old Family Reserve. If you need to save your pennies, the 10, 12 and 15 yr are all head and shoulders above most bournons, but the 20 yr old is where it really shines. The 23 yr old is outstanding, too, but its price tag reserves its use for weddings, funerals, and births. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pappy_Van_Winkle
  7. I've considered this option, but was worried it would be too difficult to walk around, read score sheets, and generally function. Do you have to take your glasses off when you're not shooting?
  8. As I understand it, USPSA bought Steel Challenge, and USPSA members received a free 2008 membership in Steel Challenge. While there is a discount for joining both organizations, the memberships are still separate.
  9. I just got a renewal request from the Steel Challenge for the membership that was given to all USPSA members. I love shooting steel, but only get to shoot a bona fide steel match once a year, and to the best of my knowledge that match isn't affiliated with the Steel Challenge. I'd love to support the organization, and would love to see more clubs affiliate, but is there really any benefit to being a member if you live too far away to compete in matches?
  10. Ah, got it. Why the preference for in-ear electronics, anyway? In my experience, sticking anything inside my ear canal is just asking for an ear infection. But that's just me. When I'm competing or practicing, my Peltor muffs are just fine. But they're a little much for hunting, when I may walk several miles, and don't want a hot ear muff and headband, but would still like some amplification and protection.
  11. But you missed the best Dallas game is ages. Seriously, I don't know where you found the energy to shoot another match Sunday evening. Must be youth. But wait. Last weekend I set up, ran, and shot two, then shot a third on Sunday, but that was three in three days, not two. Yeah, I was pretty tired and my feet were killing me after we shot yesterday morning's match but a fist full of alieve and a couple of red bulls later and I was good as new. The last time I tried to shoot a match on energy drinks, I zero'd one classifier and shot mid 20s on the others. These days I just try to get a good night's sleep and limit the caffeine to a cup of coffee or a coke!
  12. Which model Game Ear did you use? Did you use them in both ears, or just in one ear with the other ear plugged?
  13. FWIW, it took all of 5 minutes a mag to file the Grams followers on my mags to get them to lock back empty. Time will tell whether this is a permanent fix.
  14. The wife and I had Menage a Trois with a couple at the next table in Wartrace, TN a couple of years ago. Good stuff! I don't remember any CLR or mineral spirits being involved, though.
  15. I understand that if you're paying attention to your round count, the question is moot - you'll always drop the mag with one in the chamber. But on those occasions when you miscount, accidentally forget to top off a mag, or face a Texas Star that simply refuses to be hit, it seems like releasing the stop would be faster than cycling the slide. I like the idea of being able to use the same gun for Limited and Lim-10, and having all my guns work the same.
  16. iPod on random. Last 10 artists: Gogol Bordello Rebirth Brass Band Hot Shot Love Elvis Lionel Hampton Duffy Jace Everett Squirrel Nut Zippers Chu Berry Earl Robinson Gotta love random!
  17. Just for the record, I did opt for a 6" gun by Jim Anglin (bought it in the classifieds here). Shot it in a match this weekend, and while I'm going to need some trigger time to feel as comfortable with it as I do my 5" guns, it is exceptionally sweet. In point of fact, the gun is built so well that its hard to say how much of the gun's performance is due to the longer barrel and sight radius and how much is the superb build. There's no question long shots are easier. Now if I can just remind myself to use the sights on close shots!
  18. Can you make one of those in a lightened version?

    Scotch

A big +1 on the Balvenie 12 yr!. The 15 yr aged in the sherry barrel is also outstanding.
  20. Double ouch! Arrested for dry firing AND losing a sweet custom gun? Thats cruel and unusual!
  21. 1 isn't a crime. 2 isn't in dispute, nor is 3. The question in my mind, and the minds of many, is just how much he owes society. I have no problem with punishment that fits the crime, but prison time, millions in fines, and the loss of a career are WAY out of proportion to what he did. The 2nd amendment comes into play when we consider whether this should be a crime in the first place. While we may not have the right to pick and choose which laws we obey, we certainly have the right to question the laws themselves.
  22. don't give him a pass or even a pertial pass because he is a sports celeb...the guyis an over paid pimp who wants to play the big man by carrying a pistol...ignorance of the law is NO excuse...guilty on several counts...a stint in jail or the pen would probably do wonders for his attitude and his appreciation of what he ONCE had... If acting like a "big man" or being a jerk was a crime, I bet most of us would have a few prison tattoos of our own. He doesn't deserve a pass, but he doesn't deserve 3.5 yrs, huge fines, and the loss of a career for being a stupid jerk. Consider - if he'd been driving on an expired license and ran into a tree, he would have committed the same crime as far as public safety is concerned, but he'd be looking at a reasonable fine in traffic court and higher insurance rates.
  23. Maybe you should stick to something non-controversial like, say, abortion, gay marriage, or glock vs 1911? BBQ is serious business! Besides, there's a bunch of yankees and Texans on here who'd probably want to chime in, and God knows those folks wouldn't know good BBQ if it bit them on the leg!
  24. It is going to heavily depend on your local providers. Nationally, Cable beats DSL hands down. From http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/life-tech...-below-average/ "The battle between cable and DSL (digital subscriber line) companies seems to have ended, and cable has been declared the victor. According to our results, the average cable service provider gets you online at 688 Kbps, while the average DSL lets you surf at just 469 Kbps—cable connections, on average, are 47 percent faster." YMMV
