  1. The Drury chain is very dog friendly. Its also owned by a gun friendly family. Very comfortable rooms, a managers's reception featuring free cocktails each evening, an hour of free long distance each day, and generally priced between $79 and $119/night. http://www.druryhotels.com/
  2. 40 miles South of Poplar Bluff near Kennett, MO. The cultural center of Pemiscot County! http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Peach+Orchar...&iwloc=addr
  3. My calipers are at the office, but an eyeball exam suggests this could the issue. Thanks.
  4. The Kruschev method was pretty effective - and easy on the hand!
  5. Had a bad jam this evening and posted on the "what I hate" board. Within 15 minutes, I had two replies from users that solved my problem. Thanks, guys! Maybe I should post my tax questions, too!
  6. If we ever shoot a match together, the first post-match round is on me! I used my boot instead of my hand (Maybe we should call that the Kruschev method), but sure enough a couple of good whacks did what all my concerted pulling and pushing failed to do. Still not sure what caused the problem. Ejector and extractor look fine, mag looks fine, and the gun cycles just fine. Ran a mag full of my usual ammo (Atlanta Arms) through the gun and everything works like it should. The round itself looked fine, but when I compared it to another round from th esame box, it was a little shorter. Not sure if it got jammed into the case in the jam, or if the length caused the jam. At any rate, Precision Delta seems to have a good rep so I'll just chalk this up to one round that went bad. But I'll wait til AFTER the match to try the rest of the sample pak! Thanks for the suggestion.
  7. We're having a slow afternoon at the office, and there's a match tomorrow, so I run home early enough to squeeze off a hundred rounds or so in the back yard before the sun gets too low in the sky. I decide to try a box of ammo that I won at a match, and round #10 jams the gun tighter than a drum. Don't know if it was the ammo, the gun, or just one of those flukes that happens every so often, but I'm now spending the evening trying to figure out how to get the slide to cycle instead of relaxing after a good practice session. Grrrrrrrrr.....
  8. Makes me appreciate living on the farm. My commute is 4 miles of 2 lane road in a straight line. Some days I even see another car on the road! If I know them, we can sit in the middle of the road and visit without having to worry about blocking traffic. I also get to set up stages in the back yard and practice. No neighbors to bother.
  9. Hmmm... 1 lb Clays = $15.40, 1000 Montana Gold 180 gr FMJ = $124, 1000 Starline brass = $134, 1000 CCI primers = $26. By my calculations, that puts a case of ammo at just under $300. Atlanta Arms will sell me a case for $250. What am I missing?
  10. This year's list: http://www.1911ssc.org/Registration/registrationlist.pdf
  11. Something you do three times after Da Doo. I am very jealous of that one! Sorry, slipped into GI again: RON=Remain Over Night ETA: isn't it three times after the first Da Doo and then two times after the second Da Doo? You are correct, sir!
  12. Something you do three times after Da Doo.
  13. I agree with the gist of this (assuming we add SA to the good list). Its always nice to support the people who support you. My favorite brand of beer for several years was determined by the sponsorship of my favorite blues festival!
  14. Thanks for the update. I had the 19th flagged on my calendar to go online and get an app. I have a room and an app in the mail. Hope the app makes it before the match fills up.

    Beautiful.

I think she broke the 180.
  16. This is the match that gave me the bug. Great folks, great stages, well run. Looking forward to it. What's the side match mentioned on the registration form?
  17. How do you like the EMP? I've been considering a sub-compact 1911 for a carry gun...
  18. You let your wife know how much guns and accessories cost? :surprise:
  19. Since I bought my 6" SV/Caspian Jim Angill gun in November, my stock Para P1640J has been collecting dust (go figure). As nice a gun as the P16 is, its hard to go back to good when you've shot great. I've considered selling it, but between my natural aversion to selling guns and uncertainty about the availability of "high cap" guns in the future, I think I'd rather upgrade it and keep it as a backup/loaner. So I'm looking for recommendations for gunsmiths who have experience tuning Paras. Suggestions?
  20. Don't get me started on trespassers with 4 wheelers! I understand if a guy has to cut across a farm to get to his duck blind or the next ditch, but for God's sake use the field roads! Nothing burns a farmer up faster than seeing deep muddy tracks running across the crown of a field put to grade, or huge donut circles in the middle of a field that would otherwise be ready to plant. It used to be you never saw a no tresspassing or no hunting sign in our area. People just knew to treat another man's property with respect. Now a lot of land owners (including my brother) have decided its just not worth the bother and post everything. I'll still let people hunt if they ask, but another incident or two like this one, and I'll join the "sorry, no hunting here" crowd.
  21. They had shotguns. I had a Kel Tec 380. I had major incentive to keep things civil! Fortunately for me, they did have enough manners to know they were in the wrong, even if they thought I was being too damned picky about things like property, safety, and respect.
  22. I was raised to always ask permission before hunting on someone's property. Unfortunately, that isn't a universal trait. I just had to run a couple of guys off who were hunting the 40 my house sits on. My wife called me when their dogs were on our back porch, and they were shooting within 100 feet of the house. To add insult to injury, they thought *I* was the one being a jerk when I told them that not only could they not hunt near my house, but I wanted them completely off the property. If they'd just taken the time to knock on the door or call me on the phone, I'd have been glad to let them hunt the back side of the farm or one of our other farms, but once somebody shows bad judgment, I just want them off the place.
