Sometimes I make things more difficult than they are. Armed with the suggestions here and the instructions kindly posted on the Brazos website, it took me all of about 3 minutes to replace the fiber optic element in my front sight. 2 minutes of that was looking at it to be sure it really was that simple. Thanks for the advice, guys!

Carrying where you shouldn't? There's a reason my state opted not to make that a crime. You may be evicted from the premises if you are asked to leave, but simply posessing a firearm is different from using it. If it turns out he was waving his gun around, taking dry fire practice while he was waiting for drinks, or arguing with a 1911 devotee over whose gun was superior, its another thing altogether. Where I think he really messed up was in not using a decent holster. Carrying a bare gun in one's waistband is an accident waiting to happen, and poses a public safety risk, as demonstrated by this example. That said, I'm not sure being stupid and shooting yourself in the leg is worth 3 years in jail, a fine of several million dollars, and the loss of a career. If you drop a loaded gun at a match, you get DQ'ed, a scratch on your gun, and you get called fumble fingers by your shooting buddies.

Nothing says you have to use Vista. Most of the tech nerds I know or work with still stick with XP. It works.

I have several Paras, including a 14-45, and have found the Para mags to be 100% reliable. I don't see any reason to go elsewhere.

I don't see the problem. This isn't an inexpensive sport, and I don't have any problem with someone winning some cash along the way. Of course, what I'd really like to see are big checks and nice guns for the C and D class winners!

Apologies in advance if this has been covered 500 times already. I didn't see it when I serched: The fiber optic insert on my Para P1640TJ has worked itself loose. Whats the best way to secure it?

I'm looking at a new Limited gun for next season, and am torn between a couple of exceptionally nice 5" and 6" guns. I'm wondering what the relative pros and cons of going to a 6" gun might be. The advantage of an increased sight radius seems obvious on long shots, but is there a tradeoff in speed on close targets? All input appreciated.

Had a chance to put my new STI .22 conversion through a few paces yesterday, and am pretty impressed. First and foremost, a hundred round practice session cost me less than $3.00, as opposed to the $25 or more I'd normally spend. The .22 also made it crystal clear that I have some nasty flinches and other trigger habits. The lack of appreciable recoil made it pretty clear that the fliers and large groups were the result of sloppy trigger work. I do find that its hard to shoot fast with the .22. I'm so used to the recoil of .40 and .45, that it takes me a second to realize that the sights are back on target and the gun is waiting on me. I'm assuming this will change as I shoot the .22 more and get used to it. I am having at least one failure to feed each time I run through a magazine (10 rds). It seems that the mag doesn't always place the rim of the round high enough for the slide to catch. Not sure if this is a mag problem, ammo problem, or slide problem. Any suggestions?

I'd trade you our ice storms and all day 40 degree drizzles for a few nice snowfalls and the option to enjoy winter sports like skiiing and sledding! Besides, none of us know how to drive on ice, so when we do get winter weather, its demolition derby and bumper cars on the roads.

No carry in movie theaters is FEDERAL LAW? New to me. I hesitate to suggest that one of our fellow shooters might post an inaccuracy on an internet bulletin board, but I do not believe any such law exists.

That shouldn't be a matter of law, but of good common sense! Too many things can go wrong with a loose gun in a pocket, waistband, or purse/bag. Whatever you carry, a good holster is your friend!

Thanks for the heat gun suggestion, guys. I've never worked on kydex befor, but a borrowed heat gun had it pliable in no time. and I now have a dedicated holster for the .22 conversion. FWIW, I've only run a few rounds through the conversion, but I can see this being a GREAT training tool. The absence of noticeable recoil should help me focus on trigger technique. I may even try to hunt rabbits with it this season. And, of course, I enjoyed picking up 1000 rounds of .22 for roughly the price of 100 rounds of .45. Only thing I'm not wild about is 10 round mags, but that's a problem I can live with.

I just recently replaced my cocobolo grips with Davidson grips, and they're much grippier than the wood ones were. They look pretty sharp, too.

Thanks again. As it turns out we don't have a heat gun, so I guess I'll try boiling water and whichever excess holster comes closest to fitting.

If I should decide to make one of my existing holsters a dedicated .22 holster (that'd only leave me with about 20 holsters for the 1911), how do you use the heat gun to mold the holster? Do you heat it with the gun inside? Can you heat plastic or kydex?

I just got my STI .22 conversion for my 1911, and it looks great. Unfortunately, the slide is a bit wider than a normal 1911 slide, and it doesn't fit in my Blade Tech, Fobus, or G-Code holsters. Any suggestions for a holster thta will fit the wider slide?
