  1. Oregon 53 WA State 7 Go Ducks!!!
  2. Are you comfortable with the way the gear works? If you are I would say no. If you are not I would say yes. The cost of good gear is minimal and will last a long time. I would suggest you get a good belt like the CR Speed.
  3. I do mine on my mill with good carbide end mills. They cut the holes like warm butter. If you don't have access to a mill, it would mark the holes to the local machine shop. I cut 8 Tangfolio mags in less than ten minutes, setup included, a couple days ago. A long time ago I tried to do it with a drill press and they turned out real crappy. You can get through them with carbide tipped masonary bits if you want to do it on the cheap.
  4. I just get tall ones and then cut them down to the height I want, it is simple that way.
  5. I would say that hard-knocks school is much much more expensive than good classes/instructors.
  6. I wouldn't want to get anyone at Dillon in trouble, but they have supplied me with a few small parts for my 1050 for free over the years. It is obvious to me they believe in what they do and that is a good thing.
  7. OK, I spoke to the guys who has the competitor list today and apparently there are 6-8 Masters on his list up so far, I'm not sure if that includes the AK guys or not. There are a few EXP that I guess are supposed to be pretty good also. So if everyone actually shows up, it should be quite a competetive match.
  8. Lucky man. All kidding aside, a good friend of mine had a LDA widebody in 9mm. The range trip where I shot it, all 5 mags broke, and the frame or slide ended up cracking and he ended up sending it all back. I've seen quite a big disparity in the quality and how long they last. Some work well and last forever, some are money pits in my limited experience.
  9. Last I heard it was over 50 and the SO's will be shooting on Saturday for score. I imagine there will be several small squads and it should go fairly quickly. Lots of folks volunteer to help, so it should be well staffed.
  10. From what I can tell there are 6-8 guys that are pretty good IDPA'ers that are coming to the match. From what I've heard, any one could take the match. A really good IDPA shooter and his buddys are coming down from WA. I think he will be shooting ESP or SSP. We have two guys shooting CDP who are multi-time state champs from CA. I think the squads will be pretty small so I doubt everyone will get to squad with very many other shooters, but it should go fairly fast. I'll be running a new gun in ESP if it works well this week. I'm just hoping to learn a thing or two from folks who know how to play the IDPA game.
  11. I cheated and did a search on "interchangeable" on the PDF file.
  12. Thanks, I have been reading the rulebook, but missed that they were interchangeable. It is in the Apendix II Approved IDPA reloads in the preamble. There is a lot to get your head around in learning another rulebook. Good thing is I found some place to save time A Tactical Reload takes me forever, a RWR isn't quite as bad. Thanks again.
  13. Lee, On stage 3 on strings 1 and 2 you were doing Reloads with Retension and not Tactical Reload Loads as specified by the Classifier. From IDPA website: The key issue in the final stage is the "tactical reload." The RWR is much faster for me, I'm just wondering if I'm missing anything. If it is ok to do a RWR instead of the specified Tactical Reloads where is that specified in the rulebook? I was trying to get the reloads figured out today and just want to make sure I'm not confused.
  14. Sorry, I wasn't reffering to any particular stage or match or even RD'ing in particular. When a competitior has left the match after compeleting it was what I meant by retroactive, which apparently has occured by a group of SO's in the past at a mjor match. Once the score is recorded it make sense that should be the end of the scoring for the stages.
  15. I still don't see how subjective penalties that can be retroactively issued or randomly issued help any legitimate sport. Good courses of fire elliminate "gaming" of stages, you don't need penalties to take care of that IMO. Since IPDA has the most non shooting related requirements and penalties of any action pistol sport I've shot, you can't seriously say it is, "about shooting and not gamesmenship." All it takes is to read the rulebook and it is quite obvious that it was a sport made NOT to be IPSC, which is fine. It is still a game and gamesmanship is important in games. It almost seems like trying to "purify" a sport, they made it even more open to gaming and exploiting the rules and put WAY TO MUCH presure on the SO's to make impossible calls. I am VERY fortunate that our IDPA director is awesome (Michael Boyd) and understands how to make IDPA a blast to shoot and challenging all skills.
  16. Dang, I thought someone had the low down on why TJ's Para gun was jamming at the Nats. +1 for the extractor, feedramp, mags.
  17. That depends if you want to shoot major loads or minor loads Major, shoot L10 Minor, shoot Production.
  18. Consistancy. This is a single player sport, a man his gun, the targets, the course of fire and a timer (ok people are fond of non shooting skills, so there will be props too.) It is simple, unless you make it not simple. Part of the fun of action shooting for me is that the shooter gets to decide the best way to get the best score for them. Ok, some folks like to be robots and that is what the standard are for, but the beauty of the sport comes from getting to chose a strategy for yourself. I've seen the top shooters get breaks no one else does, and subjectivity in sport ends up putting too much presure on the people making the calls. This is especially true in a volunteer sport IMO. How many perfect doubles have been handed out when they shouldn't have because the SO is there to have fun and doesn't want to upset the moron who is barking in his face that he is good enough to put 2 bullets in the same hole on the move at 7-10 yards? PS. After thinking about it for several days, I think the only reason for the FTDR is to make up for for poor stage design and to give the RM a club to smack competitors with. The reasons listed in the rule book pretty much make this clear, since the example 1 and 2 show the first and the 3rd doesn't make any sense because you will likely get a FTN and down 5 for the shot not taken. A DQ and Procedurals should take care of everything. If the competitor has illegal gear, he is DQ, if he cheats he is DQ, if he exploits a course of fire procedurals. That seems simple.
  19. Major = Off the shelf .40 or .45 Minor = Off the shelf 9mm You might want to go to the IPSC.org and do some reading.
  20. Z- I'm a shooter. I'm not an IPSC shooter or an IDPA shooter, I shoot. My personal identity does not come from the sport in which I am competing, thus I can not be offended, nor do I need to justify the sport to feel good about myself. I will shoot ALL the action pistol sports that are available to me as long as I can afford to do so and I enjoy them. I will not disparage other shooting sports, although I may offer suggestions for what I see as an improvement, I will shoot within their structure and obey their rules. That being said. I think some people need to relax a bit and take themselve a little less seriously.
