  1. Right. However, slings will generally get in the way during this match, and the (offline) discussion is whether to allow them during the course of fire, and if not allowed, whether they must be removed to shoot.
  2. This question has not been forgotten; there are discussions ongoing. Depends on what's in the mail, but yes, there is room.
  3. For me, the margin for 230gr LRN+Clays going from major to flattened primers was kindof small, a few tenths of powder. I could never get 800 fps with that combination. Major, yes, but not a ball equivalent load. Titegroup took a few more tenths to make major, and was a little more snappy, but was able to make ball loads, if I wanted. Its just that 230gr+Clays+barely major feels pretty soft.
  4. Try putting the Enblocs on the sling and reloading from there. They will stay until removed and are much closer to the rifle that way. I might try it this weekend at the club match. My M1 has a sling on it now. But it may come off since this is not a "sling" match. Slings are not forbidden, and they usually just get in the way. Hmmm, that would be attaching ammo to the rifle before Make Ready. Maybe not much different than dealing with shotgun rounds on a sidesaddle. Ouch. Not at $175.
  5. You are just ASKING for trouble. And USPSA membership counts as "Membership in CMP Affiliated Organization", so download the activity form, shoot a USPSA match, and have a club officer or RO fill it out.
  6. Yeah, Mick asked earlier about brakes/comps in WW2 division. I guess we will have to add more rules to the WW2 rifle section. Oh, expect no comps in WW2. It will probably NOT be as strict as "John C. Garand Match" compliant, but not sure how much more lenient it will be.
  7. Probably yes, but I am going to shoot a couple club matches first. I am a little short on suitable 1911 mags (most of mine are for L10), and I need to plug my shotgun mag tube. And find a good way to carry loaded enblocs. And learn to load shotgun weak handed because the enblocs need to go strongside where my shotgun trays ride on the belt. And replace my 1911 holster because the old one is plum wore out. Nothing insurmountable.
  8. My order showed up; took a couple (3?) weeks, but it is here.
  9. My Greek M2 ball DOES attract a magnet. Steel? Dunno. I may sacrifice a couple rounds and see if they rust.
  10. Well, my LC69 attracts a magnet. I know some LC68 and LC70 does as well. If yours does not, great, you are GTG. I am just passing on the information: If it attracts a magnet, it is not allowed. The targets took a beating last year, out of proportion to what M193 should have done over the course of the match. Whether it was M193 or M855 or steel jacketed 308 surplus does not matter. If you wish to appeal directly to the Match Director, feel free. If you convince him, we all benefit. Believe me, I would love to shoot my HXP ammo rather than tool up a new caliber on the 550 or buy AE3006M1 from CMP at $0.75/rd, choices which might leave me out of WW2 for this match. Lee
  11. Dang. You guys are always looking for an edge. Have to confirm with the General, but while brakes and comps are not specifically prohibited, neither Garand nor 303 Enfield had one, therefore having one in WW2 division is not allowed. Might be a good time to remind about steel jacketed ammo in WW2 division. Just about all the 30-06 surplus is steel jacketed, even ammo you might not expect to be. For instance, both Greek HXP and most Lake City (LC) have steel jacketed bullets and are prohibited, as of this writing. I checked my personal stash LC, and it attracts a magnet.
  12. The website will update in due time, but here are the rules. Lee
  13. The only time I went there, I found a motel the night before. Cost more, but much more enjoyable day. IIRC, match, etc., ran late into Saturday so getting up early would have made it a REAL long day.
  14. Here in central Texas we do not know this "rain" of which you speak.
  15. I say leave it alone, but like NASCAR, I am open to listening to the sponsors. Except for a very few top sponsored shooters, most will go to the match. I have been to an NRA show - the show was crowded, the annual meeting (real reason to have the get-together) was sparsely attended. ETA: Looks like the poll changed after I voted. There were only 2 choices at first (the "No Preference" was not there). I might vote No Preference, given the chance.
  16. Have you applied for insurance? I have some pre-existing conditions and they said no problem - just no coverage ever for those conditions. Even with those not covered, it is easier to get insurance later. I ended up with a high out-of-pocket policy; if something bad happened, I would have been out $10K, but the big stuff would have been covered. That part does not kick in for most of us until 2014.
  17. An administrative note...The General mumbled something about the steel taking a beating last time. There is a "no steel jacket or penetrator bullet" rule, so please check your ammo with a magnet. Its early, plenty of time to replace it if necessary.
  18. I dumped more Mobil 1 on the bench by accident than I have used on the guns. One quart has lasted several years. As for grease - my 1100CM has problems enough cycling light loads in cool (not cold) weather that grease would cause a total shutdown. Dust has never shut down the 1100, and that is in fairly dusty environments. The only guns of mine that get grease are the M1 rifles. Lee
  19. Mickster was closer to the big one, much closer than us. Our cars are still packed. On Labor Day, I was down to one escape route because of fires all around. If it were just the Bastrop fire, I would unpack. But there have been little fires pretty much every day, 100 acres here, 200 there, a front yard down the road. Nothing within a mile of the house, but that is nothing out here. I just ordered some Tripp magazines; was meaning to, now is a good time. ETA to meet forum guidelines: I hate wildfires. Lee
  20. I have seen Remington at retail stores, not sure where you are, you might browse some. PB127LRS is the same as the LE stuff, but different color hull. Shoots same POI for me (I have both). I just realized Able Ammo has all Fiocchi, Remington, and Federal. Not sure about price and shipping. Lee
  21. Where are you looking? Google turns up some dealers online - Midway, Cheaper than Dirt, Gander Mtn., etc.
  22. I shoot Federal Truball Low Recoil LEB127LRS which are nice for select ammo stages because the hulls are blue. Problem is my source just dried up, but they are available with some searching. The Remington Managed Recoil shot to the right about half an IPSC target at 35 yds from my 1100CM and the Federals hit the center, more or less. Fiocchi hits the center of the target, but the loads are light and cycling would be iffy on a cold day. Note to self: work on the gun to cycle light loads better.
  23. I have not personally had a problem with either. I shot lots of XM193 until it was hard to get or expensive, then switched to PMC Bronze and run through a few thousand of that. In the last couple of years, XM193 has had some issues with primers falling out, but it is hard to tell if it is widespread or if a very few are being VERY vocal. On ARFcom it is hard to tell. Then, someone whose word I trust got some bad PMC Bronze 223 earlier this year...it would not run in his gun; he got it from a guy who could not get it run, either. I saw him tank a stage with many malfs and it was an ammo problem. But I got some since then, and no problem in my rifles. I have not tried it, but ARFcom reviews are pretty good for a PMC version of M193. 3300/3100/3000 fps from 20/16/14.5" barrels is faster than the Bronze stuff by 300 fps. IMI M193 from Wideners has a good reputation as well. $318/1200 is a good price. Lee
  24. It is not HM it is Heavy Tactical, so "Tactical" with a 308 (or larger). So 9mm and auto shotgun or even 20 gauge are ok. Not sure anybody would be shooting a 20 gauge AND a 308, but you could. As for hits, the MD declared that Heavy Tactical rifle is 1 hit anywhere, and Heavy Tactical handgun is 1 A or B or 2 anywhere, like prreed10 said. There was no shotgun slug on paper, so not sure about that. Oh, box-mag shotgun is Open, regardless of sights. I lobbied for iron-sighted Saiga to be Tactical, but I failed.
