I also attended that match. There were a number of shooters who considered themselves "tactical" and would not pay attention to common safety conventions, and I do not mean match rules which get you DQ'ed, but behaviors which most of us here consider beyond rude and would get you a severe "talking to" at a police or military range. At the time there were few 3-gun venues and there are more now, at least in central or south Texas, so we have choices. TJ has a great facility. If the safety concerns are addressed, it will be a good match. Not sure he still has the remote paint-ball gun, but it is interesting when the target shoots back. TJ, not sure I am available, but you might work out a "volunteer" thing or "work for brass" or whatever, and get match staff who have done this before.

Well, something went wrong, and for those not on the TXIPSC list, the match was cancelled. The regular schedule will continue next month. The 4th Saturday 2-gun will "possibly" be cancelled as well this moth, so stay tuned.

From New Braunfels, Corpus Christi is a bit of a drive, but not terrible, and there are matches down there.

First regular monthly 3gun match since the big one. The range is Best of the West. I'm thinkin' it will be nice to get a match in before it gets hot. Forecast is for not quite 90, which, for around here, is "not hot".

I shot WW2 several times in the monthly matches...so, no. I am about out of M2 ball, and I am looking forward to shooting a rifle that goes "plink plink" not "BAM...BAM"

That is the plan. There will be printouts at the range, and on the website. Mostly that is for competitors to review scores to be sure they were typed in correctly, but anyone can look.

You are okay as long as you are engaging a target. Put an extra round on a plate because you are not sure it went down? Ok. Put an extra round on a clanging slug target because you did not hear the clang? Ok. Shoot into the berm to get to slide lock? No. The stages are designed (targets are placed) so any pellets or fragments go in a controlled direction. We want to be sure nothing accidently goes over the berm, which is a DQ anyway, but just being extra sure.

Regarding shotgun capacity: Open is Open. Depending on the stage, shotgun starts may be chamber empty or chamber loaded (listen to the stage briefing/read the stage description). Limited, Tac, and Tac Heavy start with 9. If you want to load more after the buzzer, fine. If you have a 9 round mag tube, you are better off, because if COF starts with chamber empty, you got 9, whereas somebody with an 8 round tube only has 8. WW2 magazine capacity is 6. 6+1 at start is fine, means topping off at Make Ready. All shotgun starts are chamber loaded in WW2. Please note 2.7.1.b: A course of fire must never require or allow a participant to touch or hold a firearm loading device or ammunition after the “Standby” command and before the “Start Signal” (except for unavoidable touching with the lower arms). It does not say "Thou shall not". However, co-witnessed sights are not faster and if you can easily remove the rear (and/or front) then you will be better off for this match. Before anyone asks, angled backup irons are not prohibited, although these make more sense for Tactical or Tac Heavy with a magnified scope.

Almost always, buying online is cheaper, if you buy some volume. If you get 10, a local source is better. Last time I bought online, I got 250.Ammo to Go, SGAmmo, Palmetto State Armory all have good prices, depending on what you want.

With RO match, Texas Multigun will be close to 500. And, you could say that the Brownells/AR15 match is really 2 matches, Pro and Am, co-located the same weekend, because there are separate courses of fire. Our monthly matches try concepts to get ready for the Big Match (as I call it). Considering LaRue (maker of steel targets) is the main sponsor, there will not be as much paper to tape (although we are grateful to MGM who supplied the 3GN cardboard targets). Well except for that high round count pistol stage, and that is all pistol distances. So reset should be fast, but I should remind that we do expect all participants to help on the reset. My mom has my dad's stuff, ribbons, chevrons, medal. I forgot to ask her for it on the last visit, and I would not risk it to the mail.

This is just for me, but I tell myself that if I have to take narcotics before I shoot, I will quit 3-gun. So NSAIDs before, during and after. Icepacks (bring an ice chest) for the ride to and from. A chair during the match. If the match cannot survive an old guy sitting down every few minutes, then the match deserves to go away. I just shot the Texas Multigun RO match, 12 stages in one day (bad weather forecast for Sunday) and made it through with max doses of ibuprofen with acetaminophen in between. Lots of water and Gatorade (about 3:1). Having enthusiastic young guys helped. Lee

I also shot them the first time the other day. As I said on the 3GN forum, I do not like them because they are smaller. The bigger circle is recessed from the edge so the corners and edges are not supposed to be scored. 3GN only scores the circles, not to the edge of the cardboard as we did.

4.0 gr Clays works for me for FMJ, but would be too much for 230gr lead. I shoot 3.8gr Clays under 230gr Precision bullets, but I worked up to it from 3.6gr. My experience agrees that the Clays pressure curve is steep. A couple tenths can go from major PF to flattened primers. So Clays and 230gr are good for barely-major, not good for ball-equivalent or pin loads. I would recommend Titegroup for a new reloader. TG uses just a few tenths more, and is more forgiving. I cull the small primer brass, not enough in the pile to make them worthwhile to keep. I guess my eyeball is calibrated, because I can spot them vs. large primer.
