  1. 2 @ 515 yds, if memory serves. You mean a visible sign that says "GUN RANGE"
  2. Slings are not required. And, because of the risk of it getting caught on props and going in and out of dump barrels, a sling gets in the way.
  3. Please make every effort to register at the range Thursday afternoon (exact time TBD) since time will be short Friday morning. Registration will not run into Thursday night since the Multigun Amazing Registrar Corralling Y'all has to put kids to bed. Yes, you can walk the stages Thursday. Also, we will make every effort to have a sight in range before the match starts, but no guarantees. Squadding and schedule will be available at registration. Not a bad time to remind about how "55" means "55" in Liberty Hill. Watch yer speed.
  4. As of yesterday, plan is for the RO's to shoot Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, 8:00 am. It may depend on how well the setup crew does and whether any stages will need re-work. If we shoot it too fast, might have to do it again but add more targets! Last year we blew through in one day because weather Sunday looked bad, but that was not the original plan. Lee
  5. Last 2 years, a couple of last-minute walk-ins shot the match. Do not count on that, but with so many people, somebody drops at the last minute. Probably less than last year, but not much. Email is preferred due to the volume of calls. Too them, it is an order with delivery to the match so it should work just like that. Hope your wife is ok.
  6. The offer was for a limited time, and expired March 22, um, yesterday. They need time to allocate, prep, ship, etc, before the match, and they decided 4 weeks was needed.
  7. OK, more information. No additional word on those who ordered but had the charges removed. Be sure the email you used to order is the same the match has.
  8. Benny - same as last year. Registration Thursday afternoon (exact time TBD), shooting starts Friday morning. Shoot a stage, watch one, shoot one, watch one, etc.
  9. Not entirely sure why they pulled the links. It's only good if you are attending the Texas MG match. You can find the links on the Texasmultigun.com website. First under Sponsor Spotlight (at least now) Freedom Munitions was swamped with orders from people who could not read, that is, people who were not registered in the match and saw a link to buy ammo so they clicked away and FM had to cancel the orders. Kurt, there is supposed to be an email.
  10. Sorry, no, unless there is a change, just 223 and 9mm. I shot Tac Heavy last year with a mag coupler, I was never told I could not through the match. Yes, a mag coupler is ok. However, I expect your tac heavy competitors will encourage you to use one since it adds a bunch of weight swinging around. Of course, if you are shooting a 308-weight rifle, what's another 20 rounds?
  11. Just remember some matches require that capacity does not exceed division limit, i.e., the tube is not capable of holding more than division limit. In this case, a plug is ok. And, do not wait. Start now.
  12. Yes that is silly. For you, anyway. You will need less ammo than the little-bullet divisions, but enough rifle targets will be steel, that there will be fewer opportunities to save a round on paper. Actually, even the little-bullet divisions can shoot one round on paper without penalty...as long as it is an A zone hit.
  13. Lunch will be available for purchase at the range. Registration will be on 4/18 in the afternoon but exact time is TBD. There is currently no plan to register Thursday night at a hotel. The RO match is the weekend before. Some staff stragglers might finish up on the 18th. If we have to fix something when the ROs shoot, do not want to reshoot a bunch during the main match, so we shoot the weekend before. We are mostly local.
  14. Breakfast at the range is unlikely. Depends on where your hotel is. There is a donut joint on Hwy 29 on the edge of Liberty Hill.
  15. Correct. 9mm can be used, and it is the minimum for the match. We do not use a strict "Heavy Metal", it has always been "Heavy Tactical", heavy rifle and tactical pistol and shotgun.
  16. Looks like this is the closest one. Can not tell you anything about it, never been there, but it is within 5 miles. http://www.sunnyhillrvpark.com/ It does not look like much from the road, but it is probably safe. If you go through the thread from last year, there was a park a little farther away, but much nicer. That would be the MotoGP race and people come from all over the world; Formula 1 is in November. The track is about 50 miles from the range. If it were F1, then rooms would be booked from San Antonio to Waco. I try to book a cancellable room even before I sign up for a match, just in case, then cancel if I cannot make it.
  17. I'm sure it is better now, but they sent an email saying they had 223 ammo in stock. The crowd went wild...
  18. If a local match does not reduce round counts, expect new shooters to stay away. It is expensive enough to get into this sport then add skyrocketing ammo prices. Big matches will probably not change much. There have been some noises around here about adding a rimfire rifle division, but nothing announced yet. Three months ago, not a problem. And primers seem to be the hard thing to get, although I believe Powder Valley accepts backorders. Grafs has primers...oops, those are Berdan.
  19. This is the Beginners Forum, so I cut back on my reply, but bullet weight does matter. It all depends on the feel you want. A heavy bullet (230 gr) with a smaller weight of fast powder (e.g., Clays) will feel very soft shooting, but still make power factor for major. But some shooters want snappy, so a lighter bullet and more of a slower powder (e.g., 231) will feel like the slide is moving faster. I shot a bunch of 200 gr bullets and 231, and like the feel of 230gr and Clays better. But be careful with Clays. I learned about keeping the press's moving parts clean because it was throwing a few tenths of a grain too much Clays sometimes and resulted in flattened primers. I will re-phrase what I said in my earlier post. Do not use Clays and 230gr bullets if you want to make loads that are very far past major power factor. Looking for a 45acp ball equivalent load? Do not use Clays. BTW, at least one person saw me shoot my 45 and suspects I am not making major (he shot it, too). Unless my chrono or scale are lying, it makes major. But FEELS very soft.
  20. No problem with Clays in a 550 for me...after I cleaned and lubed the moving parts. Clays is great for barely-major or light loads pushing a heavy bullet. For heavy loads, I would use something slower.
  21. I suppose the xkcd reference is obligatory: Password Strength
  22. If you are talking about personal passwords, yours has to be "good enough". Make it hard, and they move on. Personal story: I went to work some place temporarily and they gave me a laptop that had been used by a previous employee. Could not find the Windows password, so one of the lab guys used a Linux-based Windows-password cracking disk and read out the password. I forget, it was maybe 8 or 9 characters, took a couple minutes. Just for fun, I tried the same thing on a Windows box that I knew the password to, and it could not crack it, at least in a reasonable time. But that password is 14 characters long. That is hard to defend against, having access to the box and no time limit. My present employer requires me to change passwords periodically so I keep a sticky note in my desk. I WILL forget if I have enough variety across the 'net to be safe AND I have to change it. Mixing numbers and letters and case and symbols protects against dictionary attacks, where a list of names and words from a dictionary is used as the first choices in the attack. Online? I get annoyed at sites that have strong password requirements for no reason. Banks, brokers, etc., ok, but not online forums and such.
  23. I am pleased to get 3GN on Pursuit, which is ch. 240 on Dish Network. Not sure if this is permanent, but it is nice. Seems like Pursuit added a few shooting shows, and has Gun Talk TV.
  24. Been a while since I shot much 30 carbine, but I needed to trim after about 2 reloadings. The Blackhawk was a little more sensitive to OAL than the carbine but definitely could reload 1-2 times before needing to trim. For me. YMMV.
