Jeff,
I just installed the 10-8 Performance rear and Dawson front on my Springfield TRP. VERY happy with the sight picture. Its basically the same as the Glock and Para I ran previously.
What's the difference between Mick Jagger and a Scottish Sheppard?
Mick Jagger says 'Hey you, get off of my cloud'.
A Scottish Sheppard says 'HEY MCCLEOD, GET OFF OF MY EWE!'
I have bought sights from Dawson Precision for 3 completely different pistols in the last 4 months, a Glock, a Para, and a Springer. Not only do they take the time to include the tools to do the job right, the sights FIT perfectly and are flawlessly built.
Makes me want to spend mega $$$ with Dave for an STI. If they can get the little things right, the big things should be EASY!
Thanks Dave and Crew!

My wife got me a CED range bag and 2 more Tripp 8 round mags. I got me a Dawson front sight for the TRP and a 10-8 Performance rear, and more Tripp Mags. I now officially have enough gear for SS this year!
Its ok. I am trying to avoid sending the gun to Springfield to fix (its a new TRP and their problem). I have a match coming on Jan. 5 and I need a resolve sooner than later.
I have a Springfield that has a spun grip screw bushing. I need to overtap the hole and run a bigger bushing in it. Does anyone in the Virginia/ Md area have the oversized tap I could borrow for about 3 minutes?
I'm willing to travel and bring good beer!!!!!
Thanks.
Seth
If you wish to be irritated beyond belief, there's a show on call 'Criminal Minds'. One of the characters, 'Dr. Reid', carries a Glock in a hip holster at about 2 o'clock, loose as can be. Makes me nervous everytime my wife pops it on. Someone on that show draws at least once an episode and it is SO painfully hollywood.
Seth? What are you doing here? It's the same guy, and I still have the Jeeps. I've gotten back into guns about 4 years ago and have been really enjoying it again.
Small world.
Jeff
Small world indeed. How's the Socal Mafia?
Seth (I've been shooting lots in the last 2 years... easy in Virginia. No commie BS gun laws.)
Funny, Ed... I wasn't actually thinking about Bubba in the act of RECEIVING a sponge bath (you sick, sick man). I was thinking about how much I'd like ot have some some young, hot little nurse give ME a sponge bath.
But now, you've ruined my fantasy.
Seth (Bubba, how you feeling? Need anything?)
On the same note, it steams the hell out of me that Michael Jackson keeps selling the rights to Beatles music for commercials so he can pay off more little boys' families....
I just had John at VZ Grips make me a set of grips that are EXTREMELY aggressive. I am a huge fan of the 20LPI checkering on my front strap and wanted a grip even more aggro.
Its a traditional diamond pattern, but seriously sharp. Makes the 20 LPI tickle in comparison.
I installed a Berryhill GI guide rod and plug today. 100% perfect fit, no filing necessary. Cycling is much smoother, as you can't feel the spring sliding on the turning marks on the FLGR. I may chuck up the FLGR and polish the turning marks out of it for smoother cycling when its installed for IPSC. Otherwise, I'm happy.
It saved me 1.1 oz. I'm at 41.1oz with an 8rd Tripp mag. I've ordered some Ergo grips to make up the difference. The factory grips are 2.2oz, ergos are 1.0oz. When I'm done I should be a 40.2oz... hopefully enough wiggle room for scale variation. The gun is well under with the FLGR for single stack in IPSC.
Seth
Grips may be changed according to the rules, but weighted grips may not be used.
The rule book defines Weighted Grips: Any set of grips that weigh more than two (2)
oz. over factory standard weight for the model.
I just had a Para refinished by Tripp. His turn around was just over a week less shipping time, the work was absolutely fantastic and their customer service is tops.
Needless to say, I'm quite disappointed! J/K.
Tripp is outstanding.
I'll add a little bit of a different perspective. All the NC controls in the world won't substitute for real machining skills. Any manual mill with a basic X/Y read out is more than enough for most work. Numeric controls are fantastic and allow for tons of operations that are impossible by hand, but the skill of running a machine and understanding by feel why a end mill should run at one speed vs another is irreplacable. All the education in the world won't substitute for the smell, touch, and noise of running a machine by hand...
The TRP grips are VERY heavy. I measured them at 2.2oz for the pair. By comparison, the grips on my Para are .6 oz for the pair. Its also the thickest frame I've ever seen in a 1911. I doubt there's a difference in the forgings... but there might be.
