  1. There is no reason not to use a 550 for rifle but you need to consider a number of things. Issue #1: Rifle and pistol calibers are quite different and there are often additional steps needed for rifle that make a progressive press less than optimal. If you are fully aware of these differences and feel that they won't interfere then that is issue #1 out of the way. Issue #2: If you are reloading for precision shooting (e.g. long range, bench rest, etc) then you might consider using a 550 but as a turret press. Load one cartridge at a time so that you make certain that each step is consistent. If not, you may sacrifice some precision. But there are very good shooters who use a progressive press without any problems, so it's perfectly doable. Issue #3: Some powders don't meter well in the automatic powder dispensers. That can make for charge variations. Also, a lot of people dislike automatic dispensers for precision and prefer to weigh their charges. You can still use a 550 for that, but all the advantage is gone.
  2. Let me just toss this in about single stage operation... IF you are going to reload with a single stage press, then the way you approach things may be different than with either a turret or progressive. A common practice with a single stage is that all prep is done in advance. Remember, a single stage press is a batch operation rather than sequential. Brass is cleaned, sized/deprimed, and primed. The only things left at loading time are powder and bullet seating. So there's minimal swapping of dies. That said, if you add a taper crimp into that operation, things slow down because every additional step adds a whole separate cycle to the mix.
  3. That can be a problem with a turret press because the turrets tend to be a bit loose. You actually want some play with almost all seating dies so that the head can adjust a tad to line up with the brass and not seat the bullet crooked. Rifle sizing dies are also OK because the brass is tapered at the neck. But straight wall pistol brass is a problem because there is no latitude in the alignment.
  4. Take care with that. There are (or used to be) scams that count on you calling back because the line is a pay line. You call and the meter starts running and the longer they can keep you talking the greater the charge on your phone bill.
  5. Odd spelling, I have to admit.
  6. It's been ages since I needed factory ammo, but I used to rely on Atlanta Arms and Ammo for my supply. They used to (as in I don't know if they still do) make remanufactured ammo from once fired brass. They had both major and minor .40 which could reliably meet power factor without going way over.
  7. Got the same robo-call twice yesterday with a computer generated message purporting to be from the IRS. The call said that I or my tax lawyer should call a phone number to discuss my taxes. Very annoying. If you are the recipient of any such call, just hang up. That's not how the IRS does business.
  8. This has come up at least a half dozen times over the past couple years so it would be worth the time to go back and searching for these threads (search for the word 'dominant') because different people find different things work best for them.
  9. That's why I said it might be a rude question. With only a few posts, you might very well have been a novice. If so, then finding the most accurate bullet might not be the best way to spend your time as compared to practice and training. As to what a B level has to do with accuracy, well if you were a D shooter then odds are pretty good that a more accurate bullet wasn't going to help you much.
  10. Can you slip the RTs onto a belt or do you have to thread them on? Either way.
  11. To All - the OP is in Australia. Before telling him how good other presses are, it would help to know what brands he has access to. Also, what calibers and volume he is loading for. It's entirely possible that he would be better off with a single stage or turret.
  12. I'm going to ask what may seem like a very rude question... How good a shot are you? Can you shoot a USPSA match at a B level using something like Atlanta Arms ammunition? If you can't then you can probably spend all the time and money you want on a search for the most accurate ammo and still not improve your scores significantly.

    $4000 glock?

This has been discussed at length in other threads. Many people have this problem, many don't. I regret mentioning it as it really is irrelevant to the topic.

    $4000 glock?

And I don't know anyone that can do that. It really seems to be an issue of what generation Glock and what gen mags and what gen follower, etc.

    $4000 glock?

While I love my Glock 35, I cannot see any point in putting that kind of money in one no matter what's been done to it. I frankly think that companies have gone way overboard on these designs. To my mind, if something like a KKM barrel and Vanek trigger aren't enough then it's time to think about a 2011. Perhaps it's just because I haven't tried some of the new variations, but I can't see any way you can take a striker-fired pistol and make it better than a single-action. And let's not forget capacity. I've tried 4 different brands of mag extensions and still cannot stuff 20 rounds in a mag and have it cycle.
  16. The bane and demise of a lot of expensive electronics is the home power supply. If you are getting a lot of voltage fluctuations and surges they will kill electronics over time. I say this as someone who has lived in several cities, states, countries - spend the money for a good battery backup / surge protector and be prepared to replace it every couple years. As to the system itself, I completely agree that simple is better. I'm not a huge fan of Bose because they over-market and over-price their products. That said, they do sound fairly nice. But what ever you choose, get a simple amplifier and you can feed the audio out from your TV to the amp and everything you watch will go to the speakers. And the speakers don't need to be huge. A three speaker rig with two small speakers and a sub woofer with it's own power will fill a room quite well. If you really want fancy, then go to a specialty store and bring your wallet - because it's gonna set you back a bunch.

    $4000 glock?

    P. T. Barnum is alive and well, and selling guns.
  19. The Kytex look like a close copy of the Ready Tactical that Chris Patty (CPWSA) sells. You might want to check him out before you buy as he is a vendor here and is a big supporter of USPSA and other shooting sports.
  20. It occurred to me you could use them for gardening related things. Fill with grass seed, fertilizer, pesticides, etc, etc.
  21. Fill them with sand and give them to someone who is new to reloading with the guarantee that they can never overcharge their cases. Fill it with black powder and give it to someone who is new to reloading then watch the humorous results.
  22. Never saw that problem with ours, but this sort of thing is why we use a paper backup. It only a minute while the stage is being reset to copy the score totals to a score sheet.
  23. 5.2.9 does give the MD the option of approving non-standard holsters and position for someone who is disabled, but that clearly doesn't apply here.
  24. There is a very recent thread asking a nearly identical question: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=213053&hl=
