  1. I've never found anything I could do on a 650 to reduce OAL variation to less than .005" using mixed brass. Nothing in my operation or in press setup would get under that margin, not even clamping down the toolhead and running a very tight bearing on the shellplate bolt. Since I was getting sub-2" at 25 yards with ammo that had .008-.010" of OAL variation I eventually decided there really wasn't a point in trying to produce 'perfectly consistent' ammo. However, I'm curious how you manage to do so without a machine-operated press.
  2. Use crushed walnut media to tumble loaded ammo in, if you absolutely must waste time tumbling the finished product for some reason. Its closer to sand than corncob-sized, and far too small to catch in there. Buy it as lizard bedding at the pet store.
  3. @Bkreutz you have far more patience than I. My case gauge failures simply go into the practice bin. I don't pull a bullet unless absolutely necessary... Its amazing how defective ammo can actually be, and still run perfectly.
  4. Because they copied the profile of the EGD Extreme pin back there, I'd bet.
  5. Having shot a gun equipped with one a few times, I can't conceive of why you'd want to use one in a match environment even if it were legal. The moment you encounter a random steel you're now either dumping that second shot or you're firing at remaining paper out of sequence (release then pin on one, transition, repeat on the rest) which again means an unneeded round downrange when it's time to move. All of which adds up to potentially needing a reload where your competitiors don't, if you have to do this too often.
  6. I'm going to need video of you mic'ing rounds in order to believe this.
  7. When shooting minor: 1. 80/20 As vs Cs over the course of a match is a worthy goal at your level. 2. Never make up a C. 3. Never leave a D or Mike behind. ^ This is my general advice for novice through C class guys. In reality as you get better it depends greatly on the situation and the expected HF for the stage, but for now? KISS.
  8. https://patriotdefense.com/product/tanfoglio-polymer-palm-swell-grips/ Just saw that the @PatriotDefense palm swell grips are available to pre-order now. I just picked up a pair - hope you like black, or are feeling patient. As soon as they're delivered I'll get you guys some actual quality photos and video so you can judge for yourself.
  9. Just preordered mine! About 85-90 sets left at the moment.
  10. ... but what about us leftys that want a side charger on the right right side in 9mm? I dont think such an animal exists.
  11. Conclusion: They sent me another 100 round box for free with much better coating, along with 50-100 targets with their name on each sheet next to the 8" bullseye. Very happy with their their customer service.
  12. If the Shadow 2 barrel isn't hardened, check with Patroit Defense or Grams Engineering.
  13. You can't reach? Try being a left handed Tanfo shooter... Auto Forward definitely is a mandatory feature.
  14. If you're at an indoor range try and get the lane against the right. Makes collecting your casings easy.
  15. How to make this happen without slamming the magazine in as hard:
  16. Don't spray cases directly. Spray the inside of a ziplock bag or Tupperware (what I use) and dump brass in then, then roll it around in the lube. It cannot puddle inside of the cases this way, and won't cause squibs if you immediately load after spraying.
  17. It isn't often that it's a viable plan, but sometimes being willing to shoot to slide-lock will allow you to delete a reload or a shooting position that everyone else went to.
  18. I use plain old red high temp bearing grease. And plain old synthetic motor oil. I've never seen the point of paying for the high dollar gun oils, besides funding all of their whizbang marketing.
  19. Do some searching around here and on the web for dryfire training and practice. Also take a heavy look at Ben Stoeger's books on Amazon. To legitimately make GM somewhere between 15 and 60 minutes of dryfire practice per day, along with live fire one or two times per week? That's a pretty common recipe.
  20. Pick up either Steve Anderson or Ben Stoger's dryfire book. Get faster at standing draws and reloads than everyone else, and better at one-handed shooting with both hands.
  21. You're obviously not a production or single stack shooter. The fastest way to shoot a creative, fun stage is often involves firing 11 rounds at some point. 5 paper and one steel or one makeup shot, then slide-lock reload and go. "Thou shalt never shoot the gun dry" only applies to Limited and Open in full-capacity states.
  22. Watch the second one halfway down the hall. He's only moving the second foot to setup to exit. In the second wide transition he pivots. Do yourself a favor and watch him or another good GM on video. A tip I picked up from Steve Anderson's podcast was to watch the gun. Gray everything else out (target, body movement, reloads) and see how much time the gun spends up and ready. Then do the same with your video. Or mine. Just watch the gun. You'll see where we lose time.
  23. Yes. Because I didn't have expectations for improvement due to it.
  24. I didn't miss your point, you missed my sarcasm. We're in absolute agreement. I made the dumb switch from M&P to Tanfoglio because I was feeling burned out after 8 years shooting every single match with that one gun. And it worked. It made practice interesting again. But it sure as hell took some work to catch up to where I was with the "inferior" plastic gun.
  25. I don't think that's it either. If it were, Bob Vogel would have switched from G35 to the more advantageous 2011 in Limited after making GM. Instead, he went the other way around. I think that at the top, we see proof instead that platform doesn't matter much. As long as the gun is reliable and sufficiently accurate... The competitor is able to shoot accurately regardless of trigger sexiness... And the competitor executes his stage plans well... There are any number of "optimal" platforms you can choose to shoot, and that you can win with.
