  1. In designing these stages I'm trying to stay away from the sillyness & incorporate all the things shooters always say they want. I'm trying to keep things relatively straight fwd, fun & challenging (ofcourse time will always separate shooters). I dont want to mind screw anybody or have nearly impossible shots. Dont let that make anyone think its going to be dull though. I have consulted several respectable 3G'ers to help me give you good stages. I am certain everyone will like all of the stages. -Ruf
  2. planning to have slug shots on very reasonable tgts primarily between 50-70 yds Can you please define "reasonable targets"? Are we talking full-size paper, LaRues, Poppers, Clays, Gongs? Would like to do my homework before the match, but need some G2 to prep. Thanks! my goal is to use steel in the 20x20" size range, maybe some a little bigger some a little smaller

  4. most 223/556 ARs will be VERY close to 400 if you shoot em straight in at 25. I have several ARs that i"ve done this with them at home and typically go from unzeroed to hitting my 400yd plate in 10rds or less using only 25yds for zero. As a generality for a 300 zero at 25 I want my hits 3/4 to an inch low. Even thinking about barrel length and loads out to 300 there isnt typically wild variations on elevation (you arent going to be off by feet). There are variables but and confirmation is ideal, but if you cant... Like Dane Cook says "I did my best". Ruf
  5. What a coincedence, I've been eyeing these too. I find myself putting my Kia Rio in situations that it really shouldnt be in but like having a car for light duty stuff. I dont want to run around the gas guzzler if it isnt absolutely necessary.
  6. 168.8 PF.....thats balsy.... you gotta shoot near a 200 to keep it honest. I'm going to listen to some Enya now & try to calm down.
  7. Oh, I"m not saying you might not want to have a few on hand say maybe 10. Its not dictated though....
  8. 1x a year or less with my limited gun. Last year being busy with life and such I did a solid 5,000 w/o a field strip. I shot a mix of lead and jacketed.
  9. I like green, the bigger the better for IPSC
  10. A lot of things come down to caring or a connection to what you're doing. Its harder to do a good job at something you're impartial to. Often times in the military, not caring (or expressing it) isnt an option. A simple matter of knowing people are directly depending on you generally changes your perspective. -Ruf
  11. Roger, I'm all about squarring folks away as needed. I tell ya, a lot of times the problem is people dont take the time to "un-fork" folks. BTW- Good work.
  12. +1 I got drafted in 1970 and ended up making a 20 yr career out of it. For the most part, I made my own career. If someone wants to do the same, then I say go for it. Now, no offense intended, you may be a great guy, but if your post is accurate, you don't have the kind of work ethic that will allow you to make your own way in an all volunteer military. On the other hand, if you really truly want to turn things around and are willing to put 110% into it, then military service can do a lot for you. FWIW- I think sometimes, when a guy is young, he needs to just do something. The military could very likely give him the direction he needs. I find it hardly likely, worst case, that one guy who put the wrong oil in a machine is going to somehow send our entire armed forces down the crapper. Look at the people that you influenced, who at first glance, were "birds". I had/have plenty, some stay that way but many turned out to be outstanding when given good leadership. -Ruf
  13. "right handed guns" are almost always better ergonomically for leftys (in my opnion ofcourse). The main reason is you always have your dominant hand on the gun and can work any other controls with your "free" hand. The one left hand mod I do have is the safety reversed on my SX2, which is nice, so I've got that going for me.
  14. Personally, I feel that my time in the Marine Corps was awesome. I found the phrase, "you get out of it what you put into it" to be very accurate. Here are a few things I learned in the Corps... if these make sense to you, then maybe joining the military could be a really good option for you. Military service is not a job. It is a calling. You can't be in this for the money. No amount of money is worth what you will put up with. You better have a good reason for being here. Accomplish the mission and take care of your people. If you do this, everything else seems to fall into place. Doing anything worthwhile involves risk and sacrifice. Know the difference between right and wrong. You will be tested. Do the right thing even if no one is looking. Especially then. It really sucks when someone you know gets recalled to heaven early. Life isn't fair. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be fair. \roger, same same. The Corps is capable of forging people into something, that something is a Marine. They turn a lot of folks away & thats a great sign that would indicate you may want to consider the Corps.
  15. FailZero nickel boron could be an option
  16. To get to the sale in the mall? Ofcourse...
  17. I've been running a Vortex Razor 1-4 since the IronMan. Although i wouldnt mind seeing the 300yd wire a bit more eye catching, I personally think this is the best thought out reticle out there. I also have a 5-20 & the Razor spotting scope, I am pretty darned impressed. I think we shot ARs out to 500 & I had no issues. I shot the 550 & 720 tgts with the 5-20 & was very pleased. I'll be running this stuff @ the ITRC next which should really be a good test.
  18. Women, they're able to do the impossible in a vehicle. Not that anyone would necessarily want to do what they do but..... it seems impossible none the less. One time the "heX" as I like to call her, was doing her nails or some such nonsense while driving.... after a long stretch driving on the shoulder along comes a cardboard box. No big deal, cardboard doesnt hold up to cars, so long as its empty. As it turns out this box was not, upon running over it it cut both brake lines. What a hoot! Does anyone know why women who will drive slow and cautious on a highway will drive 100mph in parking lots?
  19. Urine color is ususally a good indicator but subject to inconsistencies. Dont forget your salt!!!! You can go from dragging, cant take it anymore to near 100% just by taking a spoon full of salt and a quart of water (you gotta drink it fast).
  20. We will have typical 3 gun stages. There will be some long range. Im not to keen on flying clays, so you wont see many if any at all. Check back here for more info. We will have registration either at the range or at the match hotel the night before the match starts. Hi- Damon Rufener here- stage designer Long range shooting, it depends on what you call long range..... I'm likely to cap it at 350(ish)yds, we can go further but winds at different times of the day creates issues regarding squad to squad consistency. There will be challenging shots though. Clays- we will use few if any clays. What you will see is lots of 5x5 plates & several slug shots.
