  1. Its a solid option. While I personally don't compete in L-10 (at least not yet) with a single stack, I know many others that do many with .45 cal, but nothing wrong with .40 and Tripp 10 rounders
  2. For your reading pleasure: Though in time we may laud their boldness and radical qualities, in their day most progressive dreamers are seen as permissive, wild-eyed extremists. I came across a rather remarkable letter purportedly written over one hundred and fifty years ago by Martin Van Buren to President Andrew Jackson. The contents? A strong, critical warning that the "evil" new railroads would disrupt business, boost unemployment, and weaken our nation's defense. Historians may debate the authenticity of this little epistle, but see if the underlying tone doesn't sound vaguely familiar. January 31, 1829 To President Jackson: The canal system of this country is being threatened by the spread of a new form of transportation known as "railroads." The federal government must preserve the canals for the following reasons: One. If canal boats are supplanted by "railroads," serious unemployment will result. Captains, cooks, drivers, hostlers, repairmen and lock tenders will be left without means of livelihood, not to mention the numerous farmers now employed in growing hay for horses. Two. Boat builders would suffer and towline, whip and harness makers would be left destitute. Three. Canal boats are absolutely essential to the defense of the United States. In the event of the expected trouble with England, the Erie Canal would be the only means by which we could ever move the supplies so vital to waging modern war. As you may well know, Mr. President, "railroad" carriages are pulled at the enormous speed of fifteen miles per hour by "engines" which, in addition to endangering life and limb of passengers, roar and snort their way through the countryside, setting fire to crops, scaring the livestock and frightening our women and children. The Almighty certainly never intended that people should travel at such breakneck speed. Martin Van Buren Governor of New York
  3. Yes, select "Settings" on the bottom left, then "Target type" on the bottom left of the next. Then select the target type or enter size for "Round target", which is what i did.
  4. yes, it is smaller than Arredondo so you can use coupled mags
  5. Dan, Jim and Shooter115: all very good points! Yes, we could debate whether speed unloads are safer or simply engaging the safety.... I thought how such a rule would work if applied to 3 Gun Nation type fast and furious stages..... and it would certainly add more potential safety issues than simply dumping a gun in the standard fashion we have come to accept.
  6. Very interesting topic and discussion. If I were to be MD / RM at a major match, I would be very inclined to go against the grain and impose a new rule stating all grounded guns must be completely empty, nothing in the chamber, mag, tube or other. This would effectively nullify any potential controversy and ultimately keep everyone on course to execute each COF safely.
  7. I have been using the AR magwell for a couple years now. Fits perfectly so it won't rattle and makes reloads easy !
  8. Ouch! How short is your shotgun? Mag fed maybe? Beretta 1301 with + 5 extension. Yes, tell me again how much I need a longer tube.......
  9. I got DQ’ed on stage 1 when I threw my shotgun in the dump barrel and it flopped over on the port side and came to rest with the safety button on the rim of the dump barrel pushing it off. I was running past the barrel from right to left and definitely had the safety on, but not putting it down port side up was the mistake I made. Fortunately I did get to shoot 7 stages prior to the match ending early for me. I did not see anything that could be even be considered a DQ trap in any of the stage designs. There were 2 other DQ's in our squad prior to me and they were both simply shooter error, nothing to do with stage design. The longer stages were each a good challenge and test of shooting ability and the short stages tested your balance of speed. The point system is the only way to balance short the short stages with the much longer open terrain stages. IMO it was a fair way to balance the value of each.
  10. Ditto, they are clean and accurate
  11. Solo 1000, Clays and E3 are great choices, all very clean
  12. Either are good choices and if you would consider spending just a little more, both Dan Wesson and Baer 1911's offer a big step up
  13. I agree, can't go wrong with that advice
  14. Likewise, I use a 9lb spring. Try 8, 9 and 10 lb springs for yourself to see what you prefer
  15. Yes, I too have used .38 super mags in 9mm 1911's. Mine ran 99% with a rare nose dive with the first round off the top
  16. Looks like I will be using more than the 30 rounds of shot that I did last year. Maybe I will bring 2 full boxes this year :-)
  17. an extra tuned and fitted extractor is a good item to keep in your range bag.
  18. With the current status of most powders, best to find a broad selection of choices, then use what you can find available.
  19. Good point, this is often overlooked but with the long ejector often times a problem.
  20. I agree. E3 meters better than Clays, but like other fast powders charges are more consistent if you stay above 3.0 grs.
  21. I used to load 4.4 gr Bullseye with 124 gr plated, which was fairly accurate and make minor PF in my guns.
  22. There is certainly a strong following for 10mm pistols. The 10mm can do everything .40 and .45 can, plus more
