  1. I have shot my 300 blk with suppressor. Did fairly well. First thing after with walk through I noticed was that there were no rifle finishes that week so I shot the SBR in the truck instead of the 16" 5.56. What killed me though was that on the long range stage we shot at 200 than ran up 15 or so yards and re engaged same targets. I had my dope pretty good at 200 but when I ran up and shot at 185 it didnt click that my 220 subs were 10 INCHES higher. It took me several shots before I remembered my dope change( for 200 I dialed in 5 and held 2.5)
  2. Also worth mentioning is that it is easier to move suppressors than SBR's from state to state. I have thought of this solution for out of state hunting.
  3. I got amazon prime after seeing commercials for this on youtube. I may just cancel my subscription as I have no intention of seeing season 2.
  4. also, worth pointing out is that much of Act of Valor was shot in LIVE FIRE. Including the scene with the stolen truck and the boats.
  5. I have been considering an dot equiped gun for carry myself. It would seem that for most CCW IDPA type shooters(yes i am stereotyping and generalizing, please dont be offended) the dots are actually being used on short carry guns to compensate for their short sight radius. I understand that the "open-guns" could be used in a way that many IDPA shooters would see as non-IDPA-esk, but lets face it if you are really shooting IDPA not for the game than you shouldnt worry about the gamers. I think most would just like to be able to shoot their carry gun(weather that is a M&P with a docter or god forbid a gun with a full length dust-cover)
  6. For Shooting-I am a huge fan of short shoutouts where almost everybody dies/or is wounded-Appaloosa and Face off(shoutout in the church, as far as I am concerned the movie ends there as I always turn it off at that point and NEVER watch it any longer). -Also like Sinners and Saints(parking lot scene), Miami Vice, and Act of Valor. For fighting-Troy, 300, and Warrior
  7. Somewhere in the future Jason Lococo and Owen Pitt will have a reunion. I only hope that it gets put in a novel. It could be anything from absolutely side-splitting to a clash worthy discription "EPIC". Honestly I am really interested on how these two will mesh in future novels. I would think that it would be no big deal and a whole lot of respect but who knows.
  8. I do like the end-of-the world crescendo that is happening but I would love to see more off hunts. Though I dont want to give the impression that I am anything but a huge fan of MHI. I so want a patch.
  9. Woooh, what is this short story you speak of. Also I really like the introduction of Jason Lococo.
  10. As far as back-up division is concerned the only change I would like to see is maby some kind of "minor" division. Meaning below 9x19. There are a good number of guns that are sub-caliber that simply cant be shot. If it were up to me I would add a sub-caliber possiblility(maby a penalty if no additional division is added) and an open possibility. I know that "open" is heresy to IDPA'ers but my thinking is simply that "open" allows you to shoot other guns without DQ. I own a great deal of guns that cannot be shot in IDPA(including previous carry guns) that I would love to shoot(broom handle anyone). The nice thing about USPSA is that you can shoot any 9mm or higher. For someone just wanting to shoot he can shoot pretty much anything in open(though people complain because they cant be competitive). I think that if you are going to shoot an non-preffered gun that you should be allowed with penalty. Just FYI I think that considering the nature of IDPA an "open" division should still mean no comp/optic. For example. If IDPA allowed an "open" division I could shoot a 5in barreled Smith model 60. As it stands now I cannot.
  11. It is interesting just how engrained gun safty is for some of us. It is telling to watch some people(like me) airgun in their homes where they will lower the muzzle of their imaginary gun if someone walks infront of them. I wont even point a finger at someone while under the idea of it being a gun but I have no issues pointing the same finger in the same manner at someone when my mind is not in "gun mode". I have personally tripped and had similar things happen, both with pistols in practice and with rifles while hunting(with the pistol I maintained control with the rifle I grounded and left it until I was up).
  12. Bought it the day it came out. It was a good read that introduced a character that was previously mentioned but not quite as one would expect. I really enjoyed it even though oddly enough it didnt have much of what I have come to love of the series(gun banter and our favorite combat accountant). I hope that considering the nature of this perticular plot that the less gun banter thing is not going to continue throughout his later books, but was just more appropriate for this novel. Overall I give it 5 out of 5 stars. While I picked it up because of my love of the other books, I enjoyed it because of the quality of the entertainment. But just in case Larry Corria reads this. I personally would like to see more "small hunts". Maby even a companion book that is off storyline with just short story hunts. Much like I enjoyed the Harry Potter books for the off storyline antics of the Weasly twins I enjoy this series for the characters and the way they interact with each other. The world doesnt have to almost come to an end all the time to put the characters in an underdog situation. I loved the chupracaba hunt that was in Vendetta and would love to see more of this.
  13. I hate to say it but I have to change my opinion on George. I have gotten to like him. He just reminds me of my little brother too much. My brother is in the Army and full of bravado. He is just the type that has no filter. Having lived with that my whole life I simply can cope with that type personality and push the crap out of the way. So GO GEORGE
  14. I dont know if this is the best thread to post this but I am very intrigued by watching the high speed video of the pistols being shot. For instance I was always told and was under the understanding that the recoil of the weapon happens before(or at least the unlocking of the breach) the bullet leaves the barrel. I was told that this is the reason a heavier bullet with a slower velocity impacts higher on a target. I was told the the rising of the barrel causes the impact to be at a slightly higher angle. Looking at the video of the glock (with history channels awesome cameras) this does not necessarly seem to be the case. I was wondering if any of you who have this tivoed would mind rewatching the end and telling me what you saw(I watch it on hulu so the resolution is not as good and there is no slow-mo).
  15. I agree with whoever above who said something about just giving participation awards. I have said it before and will say it again. If you are a master and take something like 15th MA at a match when you add a GM class you will still take 15th at the match. If your self esteem is such that you cant handle that truth than find something more cuddly to do that doesnt have a scoring system. If it were up to me I would just lower the prices of all the events and only give out a trophy for 1st SSP, 1st ESP, ect. That way you dont have to pony up the $$$ for the extra awards. Our culture has for some odd reason has gone completely fluffy. Americans used to pride ourselves on greatness now we have friggin graduation celebrations for kindergardner. We used to celebrate results in the name of hard work and accomplishment, now we praise mediocrity in the name of feelings and fairness. Sorry I could go on my soapbox for another 10 pages but I will step down and go.
  16. I am well aware of Tara's background, but I stand by my statement that if you are only going to have one(as was the case last season) female shooter than quite obviously if she is not 3-gun/USPSA she cannot show how good some of the ladies in 3-gun/USPSA are. Again I was not discrediting Tara but simply saying that with all the shooters of the varying caliber that were on last season it was a diservice to not have more females with wider backgrounds. If there is going to such a low representation of females than because of my own bias I would prefer they be from action shooting sports.
  17. Wow I just got done looking at the bios and I cant wait to see some of the big egos(cough... bodybuildingsniperguy) start to cry when a girl shooter pounds them. Also kidding aside it is nice to see both the females and "our" shooter types being represented. No offense to the LEO female last year(I really mean it as I have nothing against her at all) but having a co-ed competition and not having any 3-gun or USPSA type females was IMHO not effectively displaying just how good some of these ladies in our sports can be.
  18. I have read both books and I swear I would buy a "Hold the pig steady" t-shirt in a minute.
  19. To clarify everything on times I will just post the classifier. first part String# 1. 2.35(-0) 2. 2.18(-0) 3. 2.18(-0) 4. 4.69(-0) 5. 2.69(-3 in the middle and -1 on right target I pulled both shots bad and saw it in sights it was a direct result of snatcing the trigger) 6. 6.61(slamed the reload squarely into the rim of magwell and had to readjust the reload and got a -3 in the rush back after the reload) 7. 4.57 I was 11 down after this and am not really sure where the other points were lost but they were in stages 5-7 somewhere my memory is fading a bit second part String # 1. 3.29 2. 3.38 3. 7.01 4. 4.67 went 20 pts down here the moving and shooting killed me as I simply couldnt keep from snatching the trigger(I do alot of dry fire and this is not normally a problem but I simply couldnt keep the trigger finger working right in the cold) Third part String # 1. 14.11 2. 13.18 3. 5.15 I went down 10 on left target(ten -1's. about a 10 inch spread wide directly under the -0 and maby 5 inch vert spread) 5 down center(five -1's) and 15 down on the right with my only miss being 5 pts of that By my math thats ends up being 106.56 with 76.06 raw time. I didnt shoot anything at a pace beyond what I considered comfortable but definately didnt perform as well accuracy wise as I am used to. I havent shot the classifier for score in about 3-4 years. I acutally brought up this top not so much to talk about the times themselves but as a general awakening as to how much more difficult it is to perform in the cold. I know throughout the day(shot a match before the classifier) I had so many mistakes it wasnt even funny. That included 3 or 4 early shots that were taken within the last inch or so of getting to full extension. This was an eye opener to me as luckily for me they were all open shots and I made all -1 or better hits on them but the gun went off just that split second before I expected it to because of the difference in feeling in my fingers. This also reinforced for me just how much I dont agree with the slightly muzzle high press out that some support, I was very happy that I have engrained a parallel to the ground press-out for safty reasons. I couldnt feel the pressure and feedback I was used to feeling when shooting.
  20. I agree that there are solutions but the point is that the club LIKES it ambigious and I just cant see the justification for it. I believe that it is a stage that is not skill based and is only used to levels out the scores a bit.
  21. The club I shoot at regularly does a double swinger with 2 threats set up behind barrels arrayed 2 high, 1 high, 2 high with the barrels touching. This makes it like shooting at them through a window or something and of course they dissapear on both sides of the swing. The biggest problem I have with this is the swingers are set at different speeds and you have no way of knowing if the one coming across is one you have already shot twice or the one you have not shot yet. I truly hate when I see this as it is (at least in my eyes) not a skill test but a roll of the dice. I have seen people drop a whole mag into the swingers to aviod failure to neutralize only to hit the same swinger all the time and never hit the other.
  22. My IDPA Prez on this perticular classifier was 7.01. I dont know how many down because of the way it was scored all at once. I usually shoot mid 6.0 in warm weather with 0-3 ish down depending on the run. And yes 5 second Prez's are USPSA ones but like everything else I practice so that I will eventually do better and hopefully I will get some good runs in the 5's IDPA style(best IDPA run so far raw time wise was 5.8x with 3 down).
  23. I really agree with the idea that slowing down and getting hits is really never the way to go. While I do also agree that you need to get the hits. I think that you need to practice at a pace well beyond what you can perform optimal if for no other reason than you will never how to handle/control a pistol at speed unless you practice it. You must first show you eyes/concious/subconcious the realm it needs to act/react in then after being in that realm you will learn to exist there more comfortably. For example I am not guru or super shooter but I shoot the El Prez in about 6.00 +- .35 with mostly good hits most of the time. I practice regularly at the 5 second range and of course dont get the hits I need. I was not always at the 6.00 range and would never have been able to be comfortable there if I hadnt practiced beyond my ability when I was at the 8.00 range. I would have never learned or maby more appropriately conditioned myself to be able to read the sights, draw/transition to my index, snap my eyes, or any other of the other nuances that we must all be able to do faster than we currently are. I also fully intend to be saying the same thing next year or sooner about shooting the El pres in X.xx time where I used to shoot it in 6 seconds. I think that if we as shooters and competitors alway think and relize that we should be beyond where we are we will always get better.
  24. Yes it is alot of points but I wasnt really shooting it fast. I was just shooting comfortable. I was however having serious issues with not feeling my fingers. I will reshoot it when it warms up and I fully expect to be both faster in raw time(was taking quite a bit of extra time on the draw due to having less feeling in hands/fingers to be safe) and with about 1/3 the points down.
  25. Cz-75 STG-77 AK 74 Does anyone bother to do the research that would make the fact that the year of development is actually in the names of these guns AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHRRRRGGGG. Not to mention the level where you are using an AUG(stg-77) using what appears to be a Surefire suppressor(what about 2002ish?). For goodness sakes this is supposed to be the 60's. I should also note that since I dont know much about shotguns I didnt mention them above but wasnt the SPAS-12 post 60's as well?
