  1. I shot the classifier today. The temp was in the mid 30's and there were flurries in the air. We actually had a barrel buring wood on a dolly we drug around to all the bays to huddle around. My end result was a 106.56 with 61 pts down in SSP. My raw time was 76.06. I enjoyed shooting the classifier but my fingers were frozen. In the end I was really hoping to get master and frusterated that I didnt. This does give me a good idea of just how much different shooting in the cold is though.
  2. Something about this show that I love seeing and have wondered if it is lost on many viewers is that I ABSOLUTELY love seeing a show like this, with these types of people getting MAD with guns in their hand. I am not only a competitive shooter but also a defensively minded person. I carry a gun (legally) and view my guns as not just props or equipment in a sport but something that may be forced into the position of having impact on my life. Something non-gun people always mistakenly assume is that someone carrying a gun is basically a liability if they get mad. Those of us who do integrate guns into our lives(like those on the show) veiw our guns as tools. This mindset often seperates guns and anger in our reactions. I loved seeing both Brad and Kelly have bad runs at the clays and you could see the frustration in their faces and motions but they were clenching their fists and shaking their heads almost completely oblivious to the fact they had a 12g in their hands. The gun was however kept pointed in a safe direction and under control. I think this type of thing is nothing but positive for the non-gun person to see. I hope I was able to properly transfer my thoughts to writing. I am generally very poor at doing so.
  3. I think that the poker challange was an excelent challange that was really well thought out but unfortunately it was wasted on the competitors who shot it. Could you imagine that challange with 2 shooters who even knew the pecking order of the hands in poker. It would have been a real rollercoaster if the right 2 people were shooting it. Punch and counter-punch. BTW I believe the wheel was spun. I think it was done off camera when the host said lets shuffle the deck. It just seemed logical though I am making an assumption and everyone knows where that leads you.
  4. I was introduced to steel challange a couple of weeks ago. I loved it and would like to build some steel guns. Because I already own some .22's I hardly ever shoot it seemed only natural to use them as the projects. I have a Dan Wesson .22 revolver that has a 8in barrel. Unfortunately this thing weighs 55oz. For those who do not know a Dan Wesson has a tiny thin barrel with a heavy sleave. I would like to take the sleave to a machinest and have it lightned as much as I can. Is this legal? I also have a norinco olympia. I would like to have the frame weight tapped for a sight mount. Is a frame weight legal? Ty for your time. And if there is a resource anywhere that has the restriced modifications for .22 divisions I would love to have a link.
  5. Aside from the sights I would recommend stippling the grips. The factory Sig grips with about 30-45min worth of a soldering iron is about as close the gun being stuck in your hand as possible. The grips can be had cheap if you mess up. As far as i know stippling GRIPS on a changeable grip gun is perfectly legal. I have mine done.
  6. This is something I simply dont get. Two or so years ago when I started I had a very bad classifier(my first) shortly before a sanctioned match. I clasified SS in CDP even though I figured I should/could do better I took it as a sign that maby my ego was greater than my ability. I ended up like 7th overall in CDP (like 2nd SS but beat all the Experts except 1) I didnt do well enough in the SS to advance to EX so I stayed there untill my next classifier. I was constantly being told at the event that I was "sandbagging" or some such, which really just pushed me to do better because I will never understand why people want to fight over a class trophy. I actually stopped shortly after that when the economy tanked and started again reciently. When I look back I dont see that I got 2nd SS I just see that I got 7th and that doenst blow my skirt up at all. I tried my darndest to climb into a higher class and if all goes well on my next classifier I should make MA(I have done so in practice) I think that anyone who has such self-esteem issues that he needs a plaque for 5th SS or some such has just got to find something more cuddly to do that doesnt have finishing positions. If you are shooting you are either doing it for Practice/Competition/Fun and none of these want a plaque for 5th SS. Anyone who is bragging about winning a CLASS when their are 15 other shooters above him/her needs to reevaluate their priorities. Find a shooter that is comparable to yourself and try your best to beat them. When you do find someone better and try again. Eventually you will be a far better shooter than you started.
  7. The SCT is just a standard aluminum railed frame with the elite slide(has front cocking serrations) but comes with extended mags. The extended mags on the P229 model I have gives the gun 17rd capacity(I know that 10rds for IDPA) but still fits in the box.
  8. I currently own 2 pistols(that arent ancient like my broomhandle) that I would like to shoot at an official IDPA match coming up. I have a sig p229 SCT which has the mags with an extension on them. They fit in the IDPA box and came with the gun. Are these legal for SSP(I only ask because I have biggish hands and standard mags pinch) I also have a Sig p220 Combat TB with the factory threaded barrel. This also fits in the box. Is this legal for CDP. At local matches I dont get any grief, but am unsure of what the true legality is.
  9. I run a 14 lb ismi spring with a buffer tech buff(should i try wilsons everyone else seemsto to use those?) using only factory winchester wite box since I dont yet reload. I tried a 12lb spring and for me it was a little too lite a spring for my set up. I will likely have to drop to lower spring rate when i finally get around to reloading. LOL I usea a 20-22 lb spring in my 10mm with a buff
  10. My thinking was simply to eject mag into hand and then drop mag in holster with hand then go to mag on waist. I understand that this is alot of movement but at the moment just wear my gun like I do when carrying(an open button up shirt for concealment). Since im not allowed to put mag in shirt pocket and im incompotent(and I have spent countless hours practicing) at putting mag in pants pocket this idea just came to me. I guess the quickest way would be to buy some real gamer concealmen:)
  11. During an IDPA reload with retention, can you drop the partial mag in your empty GUN holster. I was thinking... Its big, its empty(gun is in hand), and just beggin to hold my partial mags
  12. I think 47ds are 45 my 10mm ones are 47nx i believe
  13. THe mag locking back early could also be the casing of a round that is feeding into the chamber pulling the round below it forward and the round that got pulled forward hitting the slide lock. This was a problem with the tripps i had as well(i shoot 10mm so there is also a little more recoil). The wilson mags have a higher front mag face since the 40 obviously doesnt need all the room that a .45 does. I feel that this helps to fix that problem(i havent had it again with the wilson mags). When i was using tripps i too had to modify the slide stop to get them to work but that was a bandaid fix and didnt address the real problem of the round running forward early.
  14. The wilson mags are imho made the way a non .45 1911 mag should be made. Instead of the tiny ridges/bend/impressions on both sides of a mag like most manufacturers they have one larger ridge/bend/impression just on the left side of the mag. This means that the cartridge is fully supported on the right side of the mag by the mag body and held there by the ridge on the left. As opposed to a ridge on either sider where the cartridge can move more. The down side is that i had them on order direct from wilson in october of last year and recieved them about a month ago. I think they are more available now but for a while it was very hard to get ahold of them. Having said that I have also had good luck with chip mccormic 9 rounders. Tripp mags were by far the worst(and like an idiot i bought 5 because i had heard they were the best) i would say that at least one stoppage every other mag is normal and many times it is 2+ per mag with the tripps in my gun(though in there defense i think my RZ-10 has a bit of a tight chamber).
  15. I actually agree with you about barking up a tree better left alone. If i go the lda route (next year as i am doing cdp all year this year) i will likely go with a commander sized 45 or a single stack 45 and hopefully i will be reloading by then and i can download for ssp. ...but the tree barking thing brings up a point. If noone uses guns with factory magwells( i believe that even the new sigs have some kind of grip mag well on them) for fear of factory magwells being banned than they are omitted from use as if they were banned. Kind of one of those things where if you dont you cant but if you try you might.
  16. the tac-five lda is a 9mm and weighs 37.5 oz and i believe was designed specifically to confront the idpa weight ruling(though i dont know how idpa reacted to a factory mag well which isnt specifically mentioned on the no-no list for ssp), also both the 40,and 45 commander length versions are under weight(a 125pf 45 might be interesting) as are the single stack lda's which i believe i heard someone is making 9rd single stack 45 mags if i can just find them.
  17. Is anyone using the para lda for ssp or production? Just wondering as I am already thinking about what IDPA gun i will buy next year and SSP sounds fun. I am also used to the 1911. I can practice enough to get used to the trigger as well( i have liked the ones i have shot). Also does anyone have vids of people shooting them in matches? Tod Jarret maby? Thanks ahead of time for your help 3-Dog
  18. This match was my first sanctioned event and I relly enjoyed it. I just checked midtnshooters.com and the scores still werent up so hopefully they will be when i get back from the lake. What class/division did you shoot. I shot SS CDP.
