  1. At the 2008 Handgun Nationals at USSA in Tulsa there was a target system on Stage 4 that the stage was named after, "Triple Flip." Who makes that target system? Thanks!
  2. If I bring a copy of Front Sight, do you think he'll autograph it for me?
  3. But they're not selling "silly" things like this to the alphabets...to each his own I suppose... I agree, those are hideous. I'm going to speculate a little bit. I don't think Sig Sauer produces a whole lot of pistols that are similar to the two posted above. Similar to the Master Shop pieces that are available, they are produced when needed. I believe (and hope) Sig mostly produces pistols that are needed to fill contracts. Most of these designer pistols can be done during final assembly: slide finishing, sights and grips. I have a hard time believing a company like Sig Sauer would be sitting on several thousand of either of the above pictures pistols waiting for sales to come in. That would be bad business.
  4. You guys do realize that Sig Sauer USA makes most of their profits through large contracts with federal alphabet agencies and law enforcement departments? Catering to the interests of the general public isn't in the best interest of Sig Sauer, unless we can put together a large enough order to compete with the current contracts.
  5. Recently I've been shooting a 9mm X-Five Allround in Production. Prior to that I was switching between alloy framed and stainless framed P226s. The Allround makes me happy just by picking it up, so I think I'm done mixing it up for the time being. In short, I love my X-Five and I wish I purchased one sooner. I've never shot any division other than Production.
  6. Bruce has built me several purpose built competition Sigs, each one better than the next. I can't recommend his work highly enough.
  7. Match results are posted. A nice way to end the season.
  8. Or of course they could be NRA Certified Instructors which are not allowed to "live fire demo". Or say the word "Weapon."
  9. Max was not the last, maybe the youngest GM. K.C, Lee, Brad, BJ. Come to mind since Max. Could be a few more. MDA Outstanding accomplishment!! Add Shane Coley to that list. JT I agree, Shane Coley was the last. He is 18 and on the AMU. What about Nils Jonasson? Wasn't he still a junior when he achieved a couple Gs?
  10. As for some shooting critiques, just a couple things I noticed. As you know, I don't have any experience with Open so take these with a grain of salt. I'll go in order of the stages that correspond to your video. Stage 1: The second string (strong hand only) would have been easier shooting right to left. As someone else pointed out, you wouldn't be fighting the gun as much. Stage 2: You seemed a little slow getting to the first two targets and you really slowed your footwork down to engage them. Then it seemed like you were really hunting for the first target in the first port. You basically setup twice for the same port. Setup once, shoot three targets. Ports two and three looked ok. Where I differed from you was at the end of the stage. As I stepped on the bear trap, I shot the first target to the right then quickly transitioned to the drop turner. Then I hit the last port on the right for the two final targets. I think doing it this way saved time because you could shoot the DT while moving forward instead of moving back out to engage it. Stage 3: Arrays one and two looked ok. As someone else pointed out, you were really hunting for the targets in the last two arrays. If you charged into the doorways, you would have been quicker with wide open shots. Stage 4: The two sets of target arrays on the right: charge in for the tight target on the left, the glide out shooting the target on the right. Again as someone else pointed out, you setup for those two arrays twice. The three targets of the left of the hallway, perfect. Closing the distance to the port was fine. It was a small port and trying to shoot those two targets from too far back would require a lot of hunting. Stage 5: Normally when I shoot quad arrays like those, I shot them bottom-bottom-top-top. On this stage because it was all about speed and keeping some momentum, I shot them right bottom-right top-left bottom-left top. I did this because I saw the targets on the right first. I could then shoot the left targets as I was leaving the position. I think you could have dismounted the gun with your left hand between the ports, but I'll defer to more experienced shooters.
  11. I'm not about to post negative comments about volunteers, but as Aristotle has pointed out the results were read after tear down was completed. I wasn't able to stick around that long, unfortunately. The results have been calculated, they just need posting which is the easy part. I've done enough after match stats to know that humping steel is a better deal.
  12. I find it pretty inexcusable that the results haven't been posted yet.
  13. You might mention to them that pretty much no one makes aftermarket grips for the X5's...excluding the beautiful Nills. That's a good point, but my interest level dropped a bit when I learned the price. $125 is pretty steep considering I can purchase new factory plastic grips for $20 and have them stippled for another $20.
  14. Thanks for the link dohboy...I love my VZ grips on my 1911...lots of bite. I might have to get a set of these for the 228. I sent a message to VZ about these grips. They'll be available soon and in the $125 price range.
  15. I can't answer all of your questions, but have a few thoughts that might help. I think the X-Five Competition is a better buy than the L1. If you already own several Sig P226s, then the adjustable trigger isn't going to matter. The Nil grips can be purchased later if you really want them. The difference in price between the L1 and Competition is a couple cases of ammo. If you plan to shoot USPSA, get your X-Five chambered in .40S&W so you can score Major points. I've never shot a .40S&W X-Five, but I have to believe the recoil is tame just due to the sheer weight of the gun. Every Sig enthusiast should own one German made Sig. Getting spare parts from Sig is a pain Fortunately, a large number of the parts in the X-Five are identical to the parts in regular P226s. I own an X-Five Allround. The internal extractor has been horrible. It works great when I shoot factory ammo (Blazer Aluminum, Federal American Eagle), but fails to extract my personal hand loads. I'm not shooting bunny fart loads either, 147gr ammo that is 137-138PF. I am patiently waiting for Bruce Gray's new internal extractor. The all steel X-Five pistols are heavy. With practice I've become unaware of the weight. As for the grip size, it's actually slightly smaller than the standard P226 grip. If you look at a picture of an X-Five, you'll notice that the area directly under the trigger guard has been radiused. To me, this allows me to get my strong hand middle finger further around the grip than on a standard P226.
  16. In my best Chandler Bing impersonation; "Could you be any more condescending?" I don't know who Chandler Bing is, but apparently all we need are goodie bags at every match to attract more women participants.
  17. Are you saying that the only thing that captures women's interests is rewarding them no matter how insignificant it may be? Matt Kundrat TY56195
  18. I'm all for growing our game by trying to appeal to all demographics. What I don't agree with is the apparent favoritism of one special category over all the rest. At Nationals last year I didn't see stage medals handed out to High Junior, High LEO, High Military, High Senior, or High Super Senior. Why is that? Why do the vast majority of authors in Front Sight fall over themselves to recognize High Lady, but none of the other categories? An example would be the GM Tips article in the November/December 2009 issue of Front Sight. If we're going to read about how much ammo Julie and Jessie brought to Steel Challenge, why can't we read about how much ammo some juniors brought as well? Fair is fair, right? Especially if we're going to be reading the advice of non-GM shooters.
  19. Bummer. All the more reason to start shooting it again to redevelop its character!
  20. That's a good looking folded slide P226. Plastic and stainless steel guns just don't develop the same sort of character due to wear.
  21. Hard to say without seeing the pistol and the two pairs of sights in person to take some measurements. The biggest difference in the sight picture is going from "Dot the i" to "lining up three dots." Perhaps you're lining up the three dots horizontally, but the two rear dots are actually too low. Next time out to the range ignore the dots and use the profile of the front sight with the notch of the rear sight (front sight centered in the rear notch and the top of the front sight level with the top of the rear sight). If you get the same or similar results your rear sight is too short. What is combat focus?
  22. Congratulations to Northwest Section shooters Chris Fritz and Nick Helterline. You guys are going to get your G soon!
