STI/SVI are good $800-$900 guns priced at $1700+. I think one might find that Glock may out sell all of the 1911s lumped together. It would be interesting to see those numbers.
The LE market is huge.
It is as Eric mentioned. The frame is either a little short or the pin hole is a little low. I have square bottom grips on mine and they fit well enough. The gap on my gun is only about .030". Not worth fixing.
Maybe they are just not enlightened. Benny, let's don't start one of our arguments again. It is a no win proposition. You won't change my mind about anything and I am not going to try and change yours.
BTW someone needs to tell Dave to get rid of that plastic gun and get a real one.
One of my buds has a TS. He put some of the aluminum grips on his. What a difference they make!! Anyone can grip this gun now. I have heard CZ is coming out with a short dust cover model this year.
Flex, it is all about OROOA. The last numbers I saw had Glock with about 80% of the LE market. They have ventured away from that market on occasion - G34/35. Next time I am out with Gaston having a beer I think I am going to bend his ear about a G36 Tactical.
I am not a fan of the Dawson sights. I think they are somewhat overpriced. You can purchase Ameriglo sights for a fraction of the price. If you want to shoot ESP get a good magwell that fits the box and a full length steel guide rod. They are hard to find so I just make my own out of drill rod. I use a Wolf 12# recoil spring.
There is no reason to use a Wolf trigger spring. The stock one is fine.
Load some 147 gr bullets with a fast powder and you are good to go.
It is pretty easy to get a 1# trigger with a Glock if so desired. I set my Glocks up with a short, crisp 1 1/4# trigger.
Maybe when folks start buying other lower priced options, that are just as good, the folks at STI/SVI will get their prices in line. Maybe I am just stupid but how can STI/SVI continue to justify $1600-$1800 for a gun that should sell for $800-$900.
On a similar note Lone Wolf Dist. has come out with a Glock aftermarket barrel that has a retail price of $89. That barrel is just as good as the $160+ KKM/Bar-Sto barrels. LWD is selling all they can make. I really liked helping LWD develop that barrel. KKM and Bar-Sto are both feeling the pinch. I guess I somewhat enjoy seeing these companies that have ripped off folks for years start to struggle.
Can I afford an STI/SVI - easily. I could buy 10 of them and not even blink. It just boils down to I refuse to be played a chump.
First of all the G35 will not be the limiting factor on your march to Master. I have put a few rounds through a CZ Tactical. I would rate it equal to any of the over priced STI guns. I would also take a look at the Witness Limited. These guns can be had for half the cost of a STI. Too bad those idiots at Charles Daly don't bring in the BUL M5.
You already have the most versatile gun made in the G35. You can shoot it in Limited, Limited 10, Production, SSP and ESP. It is easy to have 20 round mags. A little tweaking will get you 21.
The Ed Brown/Metal Form 10 round .45 mags fed .40 flawlessly in my Kimber. The Ed Brown version has a welded on stop. Metal Form just uses a dimple. The dimple will chew up your frame.
10 rd CMC .45 mags worked well also.
Kevin, you might want to look at the Ameriglo FO front if you like a thin front. The dot is too small for me. The new HiViz front has a "hooded" FO rod. The top and sides of the sight are visible.
Make sure that the top round is not going too far forward. One of my mags had a weak spring that allowed the round being fed to drag the next round forward against the ramp. I had to relieve the mag release on my STI also. If I pushed it in too far it would bind the mag.
You have to shoot two Sanctioned matches. Those are usually, but not always, State Championship matches. You do not have to shoot the Classifier if you are a Master. Anything below that level does.
I suspect it is the same cut as the RIA Tactical. If so it is the same as Kimber.
One thing I have found interesting is all of this mag discussion. I am yet to find a quality mag that does not work in my 1911s. I have used Metal Form, Wilson, CMC, Mec-Gar and generic GI mags with equal success.
Tokarev, did you ever check the Spartan barrel lock up?
So you liked my stage. You should see what I have for you this year. Actually last year's match was a little too complicated. You won't see that dumb foot stage either. This year's match will as always have some challenging stages.
It is a little funny to watch an Open shooter have a "speed unload" with a 28 round big stick. Have seen that a couple of times. First round goes bang then the rest dump on his feet.
