  1. I concurr that Smith's customer service leaves a considerable amount to be desired. A recent call to them left me very unimpressed.
  2. Glad I read this! I was getting ready to order some 333's for my Retro rig, I'll wait as long as it takes to get Bob's holder!
  3. To me, after John Wayne, nobody represented the American spirit like Dennis Hopper. He was free and tough, yet still caring. There's fewer of those kind these days and I'll miss him.
  4. My avatar should answer 1/10th of your question Merlin!!
  5. Got to use my new 686 dash nothing in an ICORE match yesterday and am in love with Retro!! But my elderly eyes in a middle aged body don't pick up that black front sight as readily as they do FO! So, I want to replace the existing .170" patridge front with a SDM .250 FO green front, but am not sure what height rear blade to order for use in conjunction with the new front?? Which should I get? I hate to modify the gun from stock and I'd like to keep the gun as "Retro" as possible, but I gotta be able to see that front sight a little better. THANKS!
  6. What purpose does cutting the Comp III's down serve?
  7. How do you "cut down" Comp III's?? I've not heard of doing this. Can someone provide me a picture or detailed description? I picked up a nice six inch 686 dash nothing today @ LGD for a good price today. Just need to get Comp III's and holders now.
  8. I understand what must be used. I'm curious as to what set up guys are choosing to go with?
  9. What gun and barrel length are you guys using in Retro?? Which holster and speedloaders?
  10. I did a chrono test yesterday between standard and magnum primers in some .38 Spcl ICORE loads. Used cases from the same lot, same powder and charge, same cast bullets (weighed each to ensure consistency), same primer seating depth, basically did all I could to ensure that the only difference between the loads was the primer. I don't have the exact numbers at hand, but found that velocities were virtually identical (actually had a couple of the standard primer loads go faster), AND the magnum primer loads were considerably more consistent. Standard deviation was only 18 fps. If you've got Magnum primers, use 'em! It won't hurt a thing and may even help.
  11. I never bother going to the pains which you've described, and have never noted any marked difference in accuracy between same loads from new brass and fired brass. Load it and shoot it.
  12. We have the technology to make them a lot safer than they are, but so long as profit takes precedence over lives, it will continue to happen. My thoughts and prayers to the people, both above and below, in their time of need. Jim You hit the nail on the head Jim! Don Blankenship (CEO of the company whom owns the mine where the tragedy occured) wouldn't dare miss a couple of cocktail parties on one of his private yachts, but also wouldn't dare pay out for extra safety measures. Attitudes such as this are the very reason this country is the way it is these days. Many can argue to just stay out of the mines. But the area where this happened is one of the poorest in the state. Folks there are happy to have any job, especially one that can provide half decent pay. Some BIG changes need to happen where saftey is concerned, and those changes need to start yesterday!! GOD bless the victims and their families. Our continued prayers that the remaining missing four miners may be found alive.
  13. Even though I have nearly twenty years of reloading experience, I've never figured out how to do this? Probably because I never really tried that hard. I've know others whom do it, but I haven't learned. I always crimp as a separate step. I'm getting ready to start loading a lot of .38's and this would be handy to know how to do. So, how do you do it?
  14. Box is full?? I only had two messages in there when I read your message! Now there is only one. Anyway, PM'd you back Merlin.
  15. I've got a Speed-Sec and a Blade Tech. The Speed Sec is for sale. I don't find that I'm any faster with it and the BT offers better (read: will not fall out) retention.
  16. Hey Cliff, will you autograph a can of Coors Light for me??
  17. Does Weigand require a .300" front sight?
  18. As for my J-Frame collection, I currently only have the following: 638 642 640 317 49 60 36 And a Pro Series 637 PowerPort I just aquired last Friday. I sold a non-pinned, refinished M36 to purchase the 637. It should make for dandy use in BUG division and it carries quite nicely! Not finished with J-Frames either! I just know that eventually they'll come out with a 632 snubnosed .327 Federal.
  19. PLEASE don't do that!! I'm looking very forward to getting out of town for a match!! There will be five of us coming down from West Virginia. We'll be meeting at a local ICORE match this coming weekend and will be sending our app's out together the first part of next week.
  20. That's still every bit as disturbing as it was the first time!
  21. I can't believe I fell for that. That was disturbing. Yeah, me too!! But I did find it arousingly disturbing!!
  22. It seems like it's taking about four days to get the Daytona 500 to completion! I hope they discover a fix for those potholes before next year.
  23. Two years ago you owned nothing but Glocks, Ed!! You've come a long way!!
  24. Depends on the will.... I would think Murray Gamrath might step in to help, neither of the boy is ready ti captain. If not Murray, the are plenty of good Captains out of a job, I'll miss Phil! I was saddened to learn of his passing. I hope GOD will bless and keep his loved ones in their time of sorrow. Did he actually own the Cornelia Marie? I know that the Hillstrands own the Time Bandit, and the Hansen's own the NorthWestern, but not sure about the remaining teams? I know some of the featured captains are "hired guns" for the actual ship owners.
