Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. From all the word, the answer is NO. And that takes most of the motivation out of the reason to pay and attend. Outlaw matchs and rules subject to who knows what. Have fun. If you've shot the match before than you know it's a good one. If you had concerns then a 5 minute call with Frank would have answered all yiour questions. I didn't take notes, but there were only a handfull of items that vary from the current IDPA rule book. In part, he has some stages in mind that are not legal in the current IDPA rules. He things they will be challanging and fun. Frank has been doing this a long time and is smart enough not to go crazy with an outlaw match. That said, he doesn't have anyone on staff that handles press releases and relies on folks to just give him a call. After talking with him (a number of month back) I decided it was a match worth attending.
  2. Excellent news. I'll have to miss the Oct match but very glad to hear ICORE is not dead in this area.
  3. As you can see from the responses, different folks do different things. One of the top shooters in the country and a member of various national shooting teams gave me this advice. He loads all mags to 10. When he gets the command from the SO, he inserts the first mag and chambers the round. He removes that first mag and replaces it with one that has 10 rounds. After holstering the firearm, he then takes his time loading a round to top off that first mag. He uses that time (while just a few seconds) to relax and get ready for the stage. Another advantage is he never accidently puts 12 in that first mag. He never uses 11 rounds in a stage that should start with just 10.

    Vests

I have both the Woolrich and Eotac light weight vests. The Eotac is a little longer. Both extreamly comfortable in hot weather - like North or South Carolina. A standard weight (heavier) vests does get out of the way a little faster (perhaps). I have a Woolrich standard weight vest. Generally I like Eotac products MUCH better than Woolrich. The ONLY exception is the light weight vest. I like the length of the Woolrich better - the Eotac is a little longer. So, if you get a standard weight vest go Eotac. If you get the light vest, get the Woolrich if you like it the same length as a standard vest and get the Eotac if you would like something just a little longer. I think, but I'm not sure, that the lightweight vest on the IDPA website is made by Eotac. You can call IDPA and ask. Here's the link to the Eotac website: http://www.eotac.com/discreet-clothing/discreet-outerwear/mens-lightweight-vest
  5. Before you start a stage, ask the SO if you can stop if you receive interference from the crowd. Most will say yes if someone from the crowd that is yelling at shooters. I think the description in the original post indicates poor sportsmanship - this is something the MD can address. A participant can be DQ'd for poor sportsmanship. I would hope it would not come to that and a little 'coaching' from the MD (or an SO) would solve the problem.
  6. I think cslafrain hit it on the nose. I will add that I do enjoy the company/friendship of the other SOs. Also, I don't shoot a major match as well if I'm working as an SO. I do enjoy working a stage and seeing how various top competitors approach the stage.
  7. this guy gets interesting things from time to time. http://www.summitgunbroker.com/
  8. I'm pretty sure that John knows ALL the IDPA rules.... he's gotta know the rules so he can plan a creative way to break 'um ..... or should I say so he can break multiple rules on any give stage. It's all part of his master strategy to collect procedurals.
  9. Snow in Raleigh today.... I sure hope that the match does not get canceled on Saturday (and that my work schedule does not change requiring me to be in the office). Observation, getting ready to shoot revolver in USPSA is like a (bad) VISA commercial > Renew USPSA membership - so Saturday's classifier counts $100+ (ouch! took 3 year option to 'motivate' me to make more matches) > CR speedbelt $60 (gota look the part even if I can't hit a target) > New (4 post) holder for 8 moon clips $160 (Special modified model for those that have overcome anorexia) > Fancy (used) CR race holster $125 (goes with looking the part regardless of ability to hit the A zone). Now I'm at the point in the VISA commercial where I'm supposed to say something is priceless........ ummmmmmm, still thinking....... ummmm, still thinking. I'm not sure the match will be priceless but, I'm sure it will be fun. John SR, hope to see you Saturday. Maybe you'll achieve the goal of a whole squad of wheel gunners.
  10. Who might that be? And for those of you that don't know John, his objective since about November (maybe earlier) has been to collect procedurals. Most revolver shooters in IDPA plan where they will make their reloads.... John looks for creative ways to get a procedural. It is truly funny to watch..... John, if you start being nice to the revolver shooting SOs, maybe they'll help you active your goal of IDPA Grand Master Procedural Getter.... that's a new title just for you.
  11. I have an L frame revolver. Looking for a speedloader holder. I use the Safariland Comp IIIs. The Brownell's catalog has a comment that the L frame version of the Safariland 333 Competition speedloader holder (the one that holds the 3 speedloaders) only works for Comp I and II speedloaders. When I called, Brownell's said it only works with a Comp II. The K frame version is listed as working with Comp I, II and IIIs Safariland's website says the L frame version of the 333 works with Comp IIIs. So, has anyone had problems using a 333 holder with Comp IIIs for an L Frame?
  12. Great match! As a CPA this time of year Saturday is a work day. Went in super early so I could get my work done. Dean and the crew were really nice - got there after everyone had finished a stage. No problem, the team ran it for me after the match was over. I have to figure out how I can get a 6th speed loader holder on the belt - one (large) stage ate my lunch and I ran out of ammo... Hey, my favorite stage is still the one that I trouble with the steel = John Z Sr was picking up my speedloaders, reloading them and handing them to me.............. ok, dead dick I'm not!
  13. Sorry to take this a little off track - where is this in the IDPA rule book? I searched the rule book for 'brass' and 'ammunition' and nothing came up. I'm not really sure short brass has that much of an advantage.... Unless we start measuring cases, someone could always take a .44 mag case and cut it down to any size they want. Further, I know some have had a hard time getting brass - one guy I know was looking for .44 brass and all he could find was 44 russian. It would seem harsh to ban him when that was all he could find. I so not have much experience in this area so maybe I'm missing something....
  14. Scott, Learn priorities man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter is getting married on an off weekend JZ - I thought I had it all figured out... 10/10 was not a conflict with the 'normal' ICORE match schedule. The postal match was added as an extra. Normally an extra match would be great news..... but it's too late to change the wedding date.
  15. It was a fun match. Great stages and a fun group of folks to shoot with.
