  1. Please email rather-b-huntin@live.com for pics of my Trojan

    Thanks!

  2. I load 3.0 gr. of Clays under a 150 gr. RN that I cast from wheel weights in a Lee mould. Gives me about 625-650 fps from my 637 Powerport.
  3. Open revo is like dating a goth chick. Few guys wanna try it, even fewer go thru with it, and only a handful of weirdos enjoy it. It wasn't my cup of tea. I guess I've always preferred a more "dressed down" and "sturdy" kind of gal. That's why my 625 and 686 see the most action. But every once in a while, ya gotta give something crazy a try. It just may be your thing!
  4. No need to think about it! Get a North Mountain!!
  5. I've been considering one of the new 629 PC snubs for the same reason you mention Merlin. There's just something "badass" about a bigbore snubby!
  6. I've been having a lot of fun w/ my 6" 686-0 in Retro. Got one of Bob's North Mountain Comp III holders and wouldn't think of using anything else! As mentioned previously, the advantage gained in sight radius w/ a 5" to 6" barrel will help, but the full lug barrel does hinder transitions when compared to the lighter barrel contours. However, in the spirit of staying "Retro", at our next local ICORE match I'm going to use a recently aquired police trade-in model 64-3 with factory stocks and original Melvin Tyler T-Grip, basic leather holster, and HKS speedloaders. OR, I may use the model 14-4 that I'm on my way to pick up as soon as I finish typing this.
  7. I have Hogue wood on several guns and like the look and feel of all of them. That said, I run Hogue Monos on all of my competition revos.
  8. Personally, I'd forget about competing and focus on the fun. If you want to be competitive, play them at their own game. You can't beat a Corvette with a Corvair. You can't beat a hi-cap Open gun with an Open Revo. As cool as it would be to do, it just aint gonna happen that often. A blind hog can find an acorn once in a while, so you never know, but for the most part.... I haven't fired the first round from an auto in competition this season. I've shot my 625 in Revo, my 627 in Prod. and L-10, and my 637 for grins and giggles (we do a BUG division in local ICORE, and it's my dailey carry gun. so the more practice the better). I'll be shooting my 627 in Open starting this month as I've recently added a CMore STS for ICORE Open, but I have no illusions of being competitive against hi-cap auto Open shooters. As far as the fun part of it, aside from being good practice, I found it very satisfying when last months results came in and I was second of 10 in Prod. and fifth of 14 in L-10 with my 627! And nothing says you can't add an Open revo division at a local level. We do a BUG division at local USPSA. There's no classification for it, but who cares? It's good fun and good practice. Concentrate on that and it's much more satisfying.
  9. He can probably still beat 98% of shooters right now!
  10. It seems to me that, as with most things these days, S&W has also foregone practicality in favor of esthetics. I run Hogue Monos on my speedloader guns with little issue.
  11. After the DQ, do you feel the need to rinse your eyes with bleech? I do, but it doesn't help. I just curl up in the fetal position and suck my thumb until the image leaves me.
  12. I see a vision of Cliff in his under garments. That causes me to drop the gun, resulting in a DQ. But seriously, I keep my eyes on the cylinder. My hand automatically retrieves the moonclip and delivers it to it's intended spot.
  13. I just got one of Bob's newest creations which holds six Safariland Comp III speedloaders! It's every bit as nice, and practical, as my NM moonclip holder. It may not get me laid, but it's so cool I've considered making love to it!!
  14. I took Carmoney's advice when I started shooting Revo and bought a Blade Tech. I'm about 50 matches and several thousand draws into it with zero drops or failures. It isn't as versatile as a SpeedSec or Ghost for holding multiple frame sizes, but it holds my 625 and 627 with zero issues and very, very little chance of dropping. I have done timed comparisons from my BT and from a SpeedSec and there's no difference (I'm maybe a hair quicker with the BT). All of that said, I may be getting ready to buy a Ghost that will hold my 625 and 627 with optic installed for ICORE Open. I going with a CMore STS mounted on a JPoint S&W mount on the 627, so just maybe it'll still work from the BT. If not, I'm going with a Ghost because my fingers are too fat to consistently, effectivley engage the SpeedSec lock.
  15. Ditto. Leaves primers from .008" to .010" below flush depending on make of brass.
  16. The unfortunate scenerio you describe, Merlin, has been cause for a good bit of laughter at our local ICORE matches over the last year! It has even spawned a new acronym from the unfortunate fellow whom has had both his 625 and 686 display this phenomenon: H.S.M.G.F.A. (Holy Sh*t My Gun Fell Apart) I believe his fix was blue LT.
  17. I really enjoy my 5" 625PC! The skeletonized half lug barrel helps to drop weight which aides in transitions. I'd consider the 4" if it were all I could find. I just shot my 627 Pro in a local match this past weekend in Prod. and L10 for grins and giggles and did much better than I thought I would. I was second out of 10 shooters in Prod. and fifth out of 13 or 14 in L10, and all of the other shooters in those divisions were shooting autos. The extra inch of lost sight radius didn't seem to hamper me too much (but there were no targets over 15 yrd. at this match either). If you were shooting ICORE where shots could stretch out to 50 yards, every extra bit of sight radius would be helpful.
  18. I've found through a LOT of careful testing that you can push Clays beyond the books without signigicant increase in pressure. I've been running 3.1 gr. under my own cast 152 gr. bullets for practice and intend to start working my way toward 3.5 soon.
  19. Even though I'm blessed with a decent paying, virtually zero-stress occupation, occassionally life just gets to me and my head goes up my @$$. I came home from work on Saturday afternoon, packed up all of my shooting gear, and headed to my weekend house for what I hoped would be an evening of clearing my head after several uncharacteristicly stressful days. My plan was to head to Sunday's match straight from my cabin. I was looking very forward to hopefully having a clean run in Revo and bumping my classification. Instead, I got to the range and realized I had neglected to pack my 625! Had my holster, belt, ammo, and everything I'd need. Except for the gun! At least I had just enough stuff with me to be able to run my new 627 Pro in Prod. and L10 for grins and giggles. When I unpacked my bags today, I realized (and remembered) that I had dropped my 625 into my clothes duffle instead of my shooting bag!! Shooting is a great stress reliever, I guess. Just make sure you aren't too stressed.
  20. Welcome Merlin! My six came in Saturday's mail. Ordered six 'cause that's how many Bob's new Comp III holder will accomodate. Have four Comp II's and a couple of HKS, so I think I'm set for Retro!! Just need my sight plunger and spring to arrive from Brownells. When they tell you to ensure to use caution when changing rear sight blades because the thing will fly way, they aint kidding!!
  21. I saw them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. One of my customers was wearing a pair. Said he bought them to run in and they do a good job for him. It seems as if you'll wear them mostly in grass they'll be fine. Just don't wear them in mud as someone will likely report a sasquatch in the area!
  22. Have you had anything back long enough to determine what duribility of the finish may be like?
  23. If anyone is looking to get started in ICORE Retro division, or is just looking for a good deal, MidwayUSA currently has Safariland Comp III speedloaders on sale for $12.99. Just hope Bob Perdue gets those Comp III holders into production soon!!
  24. .This thread got me curious so I pulled the grips off of my 460 and slipped them onto my 627. I really like the feel! I was getting ready to order a set of Mono Big Butts, but am going to try these for a while. They force a high hand hold just like the BB's on my 625, but don't have the "butt" there to potentially get in the way.
